[edit] Oerba Dia Vanille
- (Narrator): The whole world was against us. With us dead, everyone was sure that things would go back. Back to the way they were before.
- (Narrator): When I couldn't see a future and I was afraid. When the future was clear and it hurt to see, I just close my eyes and lose myself in happier days.
- (Narrator): When the fear sank in, it tore us apart. Lightning was suffering. Reaching out to us. But none of us could see it. If only I'd been stronger, none of this would ever happened.
- (Narrator): Seems we are going to say good bye, better do it with a smile.
- (Narrator) (about Snow): First impression of Snow? All talk.
- (Narrator) (about Sazh): Kindness like his, you don't forget.
- (Narrator): Wishes can come true. But not if you just wait for miracles. Miracles are things we make for ourselves. Here, and now.
- (Narrator): Knowing you'll always be welcomed, no matter how much has changed... That's what having a home is all about.
- (Narrator): We'd realized along the way that choice was the only thing we had left. Maybe we'd fall short. Maybe we'd never even come close. But someone, someday, would know we'd tried.
- (Narrator): I might as well fought the rain but I fought the tears. They still fell.
- I'm sorry... I'm so sorry! (to Serah)

[edit] Hope Estheim
- (to Snow) And what if that gets people around you involved? What happens when your actions end up ruining someone's life. What if someone dies? What then, Snow? How do you pay for what you've done?
- (to Lightning) You think? They protect us, nurture us. They take care of, well, normal people. They treat us like we're special, almost like...Like we're pets!
- (to Orphan) If we have the power to destroy Cocoon, then we have the power to save it. You say you want your Day of Wrath, do you? Well it's coming right up!
- The fal'Cie cursed us. We're l'Cie now!
- Follow me.

[edit] Oerba Yun Fang
- (to Snow) You want to keep breathing? Shut up and come quiet.
- (to Lightning) Want to know how long until it's Cie'th City? Just look at your brand. You start getting more arrows, and then finally an eye. Once it opens all the way, you're done.
- (to Lightning and company) If you’re all sticking to that choice, then I’ll show you mine!( fighting stance) Let Cocoon get what's coming! They hate us for being l'Cie. Better that than watch a friend go Cie'th. If none of you are going to do it, I'll go it alone, get stronger and smash Cocoon outta the sky.
- (to Sazh) Hey, funny man, stop calling this place hell ,alright?
- Fight
- Goodnight, sunshine!

[edit] Yaag Rosch
- (Orders for soldiers) These are l'Cie. Show no mercy. They aren't people. They're targets.
- Cocoon is caught in the grip of a Pulse-born Terror. These Pulse l'Cie threaten our very way of life. They must be eliminated. Over and out.
- [to Palumpolum GCs] Who do you think it is terrified of Pulse and begging us to kill the l'Cie? It's not Sanctum. It's not us. It's the people.
- Not so fast, I'Cie!
[edit] Jihl Nabaat
- Do be careful with those. For every task, there's a perfect tool.
[edit] Cid Raines
- The public fears what it doesn't know... Strike down the phantoms before their eyes, and they sleep like babes.
- My dream is but a fal'Cie's fancy now... End it.
- A l'Cie tied to an inescapable Focus - a slave of destiny. I'd lost hope. I'd all but given up dreams of freedom.
- When it comes to Pulse, who could claim to know anything? I need the truth, for the sake of Cocoon.
- The public fears what it doesn't know. It's grown tired of living in constant terror of these treats from the world below. So, the Sanctum devised a plan for you l'Cie.
- I put you on the path. That was my focus.
- I did my best to assist you as bid by the Sanctum fal'Cie.
- A shadow of a dream from when I was human. It was change I craved, and once I'd built the influence to make things happen, there was change. I gained all the power I could hope for, but was a puppet with no will to wield it. It wasn't the fal'cie that changed, it was me.
- I'm here of my own accord, not by fal'Cie. Seeing you fight brought it all back. Brought back that future I once strove for. I, too, will challenge my fate.
- I will set you free!
- The only thing I wanted was a moment of triumph. How it ends isn't important. Just do what you know is right. Trust yourselves.
- People of Cocoon. My fellow citizens. We have survived the twllight, and gather now to welcome the dawn on which we decide our fate. Many are lessons we have learned during our long night of hardship and sacrifice. And now we face choices, which must be made as our hearts dictate, and not abandoned to uncared chance, Let us forge aheads with unflinching courage and honor the fallen with action. With these hands we shape the future.
- Fight
- I shall set you free!
- My Triumph is near!
- You are mine!
- No more words!
- On your Guard! (Ruin)
- My Will is my own! (Metamorphose)
- My Will is my Strength! (Seraphic Beam)
[edit] Galenth Dysley/Barthandelus
- (to reporter) There's no denying the enormity of the strain the Purge placed on us all. But, given the tens of millions of lives at stake, there truly was no alternative.
- (to public) In all the centuries since the War of Transgression, Cocoon has been spared Pulse aggression, and prospered for it. It is essential that we maintain this peace. That is the Sanctum's focus. We will continue employing every resource available to combat these threats to the harmony of our society.
- What else does one do with tools?
- Without our help, death is all of which you're capable. You saw the fools. A mindless mob drunk on fear of a few l'Cie.
- l'Cie? You mean me? Oh child, perish the thought. I am more than that! [Assumes true form] I am fal'Cie. My name is Barthandelus. Voice of the Sanctum and Lord-Soverign of the Cocoon fal'Cie. Your kind feared the darkness, so we gave you light. You begged us for the Purge. and did it not come to pass? Now your spurn our counsel? You must learn your place!
- Will you enjoy the festivities beside me or perhaps... (turns into fal'Cie form) Greet the end here in the land where it all began (Oerba)?
- If you truly seek salvation, you will obey!
- Fight
- This is the power of a fal'Cie.
- Come...
- You are ignorant of your place.
- I am most dissappointed.
- You waste your time.
- Is that all you got?
- I am the harbringer of death!
- Yield!
- Witness my power!/You will taste agony! (Thanotosian Smile)
- You will know true terror!/Now you will bow to the fal'Cie! (Destrudo)
- Submit!
- Destroy the world
- The World begs for salvation.
- Piteous l'Cie!
- Perhaps, some of this?
- Such marvelous strength!
- Can you endure this? (Apoptosis)
- You struggle in vain! (Thanotosian Laughter)
- Fullfill your Focus.
- Release...At last, release! (Final Words)
[edit] Orphan
- A haven, yea. Yet it must fall ere we be saved. Too frail a shell, and humans should not thrive. Too stout a shell and they would not die. Slaughter and salvation! Two irreconcilable Focuses we bore. Yet bound were we in a cocoon prison, impervious to our power. And so we thank you for granting us our longed-for birth. We are the Abandoned One, born but now to die. Our name is Orphan. By our hand, the world shall know redemption.
[edit] Dialogue
- Seven Days Prior
- Vanille: Fang, let's go. What's our Focus even matter?
- Fang: What's it matter? You want to become a monster?
- Vanille: I just—
- Fang: Keep your chin up. We know the part that matters. Right? We are enemies of Cocoon. Know what I say? Play the part and raise hell. Might jump-start our memories.
- Vanille: What?
- Fang: The fal'Cie. Let's smash it.
- [Before they could fight.]
- Dajh: Who are you?
- [Kjata reacts; an eruption occurs.]
- Dajh: Daddy!
- [After Vanille and Fang run off...]
- Sazh: Dajh! Dajh, come out here! Dajh! I know you're in here! Dajh! Where are you? Say something!
- [Finds Dajh]
- Sazh: Dajh! Hey! What's wrong? Dajh!
- Dajh: Daddy!
- Sazh: It's all right! You okay? You're not hurt, are you?
- [Sees the l'Cie mark on his son's hand]
- Sazh: What's that?
---
- Vanille: Let's give up! Forget our Focus, we don't need it!
- Fang: We don't need it? Look, if we don't figure it out and pull it off, you're gonna become a Cie'th.
- Vanille: It's just--making a kid a that young l'Cie. It's not right!
- Fang: Yeah, it's unfair. But guess what? We grin and bear it like good l'Cie or the fal'Cie starts making more. Like that girl the other day. It doesn't matter what our Focus is. We do out, whether we like it or not.
- Vanille: But--
- Fang: Say we call it quits. You think these people will let us go? They'll lynch us on the street. Listen, Vanille. We do what we've gotta do and get ourselves off this filthy world, as fast as we can.
- Vanille: Fang?
- Fang: You get out of here first. I'll buy you some time. Now, don't you worry. I'll come and find you, no matter where you go.
- [She damages the elevator control as she pushes Vanille in as it closes.]
- Vanille: Wait! Fang! Fang! Please! Don't leave me!
- Fang: You're not gonna end up a Cie'th.
---
- Five Days Prior
- Snow: You're kidding, right?
- Serah: I mean it.
- Snow: You can't drop the breakup bomb like that. Being alone's all right, I guess. Yep. Always was until we met. But then we did. And now I know there's something better: being with you. We've come too far to quit now.
- Serah: It's not my choice!
- Snow: You really want to leave me.
- Serah: I don't want to, I have to. Listen, it's over. Please, just stay away from me.
- Snow: What happened? At least tell me that. If it was something I did, just say it.
- Serah: Okay.
- [Reveals her l'Cie mark]
- Serah: Look. Branded by Pulse. I'm a l'Cie. Enemy of Cocoon. Danger to us all.
- [Snow is speechless]
- Serah: Get it now? You're my enemy. Good-bye.
- [Runs off crying. Snow later finds her on the pier.]
- Snow: Serah! What is your Focus? L'Cie have a Focus, right? I'll go with you. Help you do it. Just let me.
- Serah: No! If you're with me, the Sanctum will--
- Snow: I will be with you! No matter what! We've come to far to quit now.
- Serah: I don't know. I don't know my Focus. I'm gonna be a monster.
- Snow: Not if I'm here. I'll protect you. We'll figure this out--do it together. Okay?
- Serah: Okay.
- [The two hug on the pier.]
- Serah: If it's true what they say...When we're finished, I'll turn to crystal.
- Snow: Don't worry. When l'Cie complete their Focus, they're blessed with the gift of eternity. They wouldn't called it eternity if you died. You'll see. You and me, we'll always be together.
---
- Four Days Prior
- Serah: How's the scrape?
- Vanille: Huh? Fine. Much better--thanks to you. Oh, sure you don't mind—I mean, I'm not keeping you from anything, am I?
- Serah: Not at all. Don't worry. I could sit here for hours.
- Vanille: Hey, Serah. Do you think we'll meet again?
- Serah: We might. Sure.
- Vanille: See, the thing is...I was chasing after someone. And there's something I really need to apologize for. But, I just...I just can't ever find the words.
- Serah: Gee, that's got to be tough.
- Vanille: Yes. I even have nightmares about it.
- Serah: Well, if it's too much to deal with, face it later.
- Vanille: Really?
- Serah: Sometimes things seems easier when you look at them from a distance, you know?
- Vanille: But does that really work?
- Serah: Good question. I'll let you know. Actually, I've been trying to keep something at a distance myself lately.
- Vanille: Like what?
- Serah: Don't laugh, okay? It's a dream I had, a bad one. I dreamed I destroyed the world. It was terrifying. I needed some time alone. It had me so scared I tried to run away. But then, my boyfriend, he came chasing after me. That's when I understood. Running away and leaving behind the people you care about? That isn't love. Though you might just want to keep them safe, shutting them out of you life only hurts them more. The point is, I have people I can count on. I'll make it through.
- Vanille: I think you'll be fine.
- Serah: You will be too. You'll find the words, I'm sure of it.
- (Vanille touches her arm and fall to her knees)
- Vanille: (crying) I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! What else can I say?
- Serah: I'm not the one you should asking, Vanille. You'll know what to say when you find your friend. You'll see.
--
- Two Days Prior
- Snow: Making a wish?
- Serah: Maybe I was. I was hoping that tommorow I can tell my sister. She'll be so mad, knowing I hid it from her.
- Snow: Don't worry, I'll take the blame for you. You know, you should ask for something bigger. These are wish-granting fireworks like in the stories.
- Serah: Stories, huh? L'Cie who fulfill their Focus...they become crystal and gain eternal life.
- Snow: Would help if they gave you some clue about what you're suppose to do. We'll figure this thing out...You will never be one of those monsters.
- Serah: So what will I be? A crystal?
- [She starts crying until Snow takes out a necklace]
- Snow: Yesterday at the store, I got you something. Don't know much about jewelry, but I hope you like it.
- [He puts it on her.]
- Snow: I'll stay by you, no matter what happens. I'm yours forever. Serah...my one, my only...will you marry me?
- Serah: Yes.
- Snow: She said yes!
--
- Sazh: Dajh.
- Dajh: Hey, Dad.
- Sazh: Making a wish, huh? What did you wish for?
- Dajh: Well, you're never happy. You never smile. So here what I wished: I wished that you'd cheer up and be like your old self again.
- [Sazh picks up his son and presents the baby chocobo he bought for him.]
- Sazh: How about that? Your wish came true!
- [The fireworks start.]
- Sazh: Okay, it's my turn to wish.
- Dajh: What for, dad?
- Sazh:That's my little secret.
--
- Nora: Not making a wish, Hope?
- Hope: Mom, you still believe in that kind of stuff? Wishing on fireworks, really? That's for little kids.
- Nora: (hugs her son) Who are you calling kid?
- Hope: You. What did you wish for?
- Nora: That next year--your father can come with us.
- Hope: Why? It's better like this. We don't need him.
--
- [Snow and Serah get a bird's eye view of the fireworks.]
- Snow: Gotta love these fireworks. They granted my wish.
- Serah: Your wish?
- Snow: Before you agree to marry me, I wish on them that you would say yes.
- Serah: Then, maybe they'll grant mine too...
- Snow: What's that?
- Serah: To have the courage to tell Lightning...that I've become a l'Cie..
- Snow: Hey, our engagement is way bigger news. (laughs) Oh man, I can't wait to see her face. Hey, she'll be my new sister?
- Serah: Yeah.
- [Serah nods as they enter the fireworks to get a better look.]
- Serah: Hey, Snow.
- Snow': Yeah?
- [They manage to get out]
- Snow: That was close.
- [The two laugh as Serah looks back at the fireworks.]
- Serah: Gorgeous...Our own private heaven.
- Snow: Only me, just you and me...
- [They kiss before taking their leave.]
- Serah: Thank you, Snow...
--
- Amodar: You look dreamy, Sergeant Farron. Wishing on fireworks, were you? And you call yourself a soldier!
- Lightning: Sorry, Lieutenant. But I really don't think guard duty is my calling, sir.
- Amodar: Well, lucky for you, your shift just ended. Pack it up and go home.
- Lightning: But, sir...
- Amodar: PSICOM found something in the Vestige nearby. They don't want the Guardian Corps here stepping on their toes. I'm sure you heard about the accident at Euride Gorge energy plant...and how it has the PSICOM lads in a tizzy.
- Lightning: Yeah, more incident than an accident. Something Pulse-related?
- Amodar:(changing the subject) You taking tomorrow off?
- Lightning: Sir, for my birthday, sir. My sister, she insisted on it.
- Amodar: Twenty-one, huh? Maybe it's a good time to send off that letter of recommendation for officer training.
- Lightning: Lieutenant...
- Amodar: You're past due for a promotion, Farron. Think of your sister, and your future. And, uh, keep your nose out of trouble.
- Lightning: Out of PSICOM business, you mean.
- Amodar: Yeah. Nothing good will come of it. Nothing but grief.
--
- One Day Prior
Lightning: You became a l'Cie, now you're gonna marry this idiot? And you think I'm gonna buy that. Full points for originality. But, don't forget. If you really are a l'Cie, it's my job to deal with you.
- Serah: Sis...
- Lightning: This is ridiculous. Worst birthday ever.
- [Serah runs off crying as Snow is upset.]
- Snow: Why don't you believe her!?
- Lightning: You're kidding me? She gets made l'Cie, and you pop the question?
- Snow: Lightning, stop it!
- Lightning: No, you stop it! Get out of my house!
- Snow: You're shutting her out? She's your sister!
- [Lightning turns her back to him.]
- Snow: Fine...I'll do it. I'll protect her.
- [Snow walks off as Lightning opens Serah's present: A dagger.]
- Lightning: How practical.
- Reporter: We interupt this program to bring an urgent Sanctum bulletin...Late last night, officals confirmed the presence...of a fal'Cie inside the city of Bodhum. Acting with fal'Cie Eden's approval, authorities declared a state of emergency. The entire city will be quarantined in response to this crisis. This is a Sanctum bulletin—
--
- [Outrunning PSICOM soldiers, Snow and Serah take a bike to evade their pursuers.]
- Snow: Hold on!
- Serah: Okay!
- [With the bike damaged, Snow steers it to the nearest stable object, the Pulse fal'Cie.]
- Snow: Jump!
- [She jumps off and reaches for Snow.]
- Serah: Snow!
- [But as he was about to, he sees a liquid engulfing Serah]
- Snow: Serah!
- [After the fal'Cie drags Serah in, it produces a shockwave to knock the bike to the beach. Snow survives, yet bruised.]
- Snow: Serah...
--
- Hours Prior
- Commander: Attention Purge deportees: Follow instructions. Personal belongings will be return upon arrival.
[Lighting arrives]
- Commander: What's a GC doing here? This op's under PSICOM direction.
- Lightning: So direct me, let me. I want to be Purged.
- Commander: Only citizens get Purged. Sanctum-status soldiers are exempt.
- Lightning: Then I quit.
- Commander: Line up!
- [Sazh notices her.]
- Sazh: Excuse me. Hey, lady. What gives?
- Lightning: I volunteered.
- Sazh: Really? You don't look ready to go quietly into that good night.
- Lightning: You want quiet, you better take the next train.
- Sazh: Now I really want to see what you're up to.
[edit] Chapter 1
- Vanille (Narrator): The thirteen days after we awoke were the beginning of the end.
- (We open to a Purge train heading to Pulse. Inside, PSICOM soldiers patrol the cars.)
- Sazh: You're serious?
- Lightning: Be quiet.
- Sazh: Best of luck.
- (When the train makes a unexpected entry into the Restricted Zone, Lightning makes her move.)
- Sazh: She did it.
- Guard #1: Hands up!
- Guard #2: Freeze!
- (Lightning attacks the PSICOM soldiers while Sazh helps the Purgees.)
- Sazh: You're all right? I'm not a l'Cie.
- (As Lightning finishes off the last of the soldiers in the front car, Sazh arrives with reinforcements.)
- Sazh: So far, so good. They want to fight.
- Lightning: Good for them.
- (PSICOM jets attack the train as Lightning grabs a nearby bazooka.)
- Lightning: Give me that.
- (While she takes down the jets, PSICOM begins in move in full force as one of their summoned creatures stops the train with the engine going over the edge.)
- Sazh: Run! I meant away!
- (Lightning goes up to face the Warmech as Sazh comes up, nearly getting himself killed in the process.)
- Sazh: Give me a break! So what now?
- Lightning: Just stand back and watch.
- (Lightning fights the creature with Sazh providing backup.)
- Lightning: Fall back!
- Sazh: Not so tough now, huh?
- (The Warmech attempts to derail the train.)
- Sazh: Hey, that wasn't a challenge now, right? Time to go!
- (Lightning jumps to safety.)
- Sazh: I'm coming!
- Lightning: Jump!
- (Sazh barely makes it.)
- Lightning: Heads up.
- Sazh: This thing won't give up!
- (After a long fight, the monster is sent falling into the abyss below.)
- Sazh: Oh goodness. We did it.
- (Jets zoom past.)
- Sazh: Aren't you supposed to protect civilians, Soldier? I mean, you are Sanctum, aren't ya? What are you doing stopping the Purge? Why don't you tell me that?
- Lightning: I was a soldier.
- (Lightning runs off with Sazh picking up the pace.)
- Sazh: Man...Chocobo, we just can't get a break, can we?
--
- Sazh: Not wanting to be Purged, I get. But taking on trained soldiers?
- Lightning: Better to die than get sent to Pulse. It's hell without the brimstone.
- Sazh: Yeah, well, hell isn't sounding too bad. Cause this place isn't exactly paradise.
- (Sazh and Lightning catch sight of Pantherons lurking around several PSICOM soldiers.)
- Lightning: Domesticated peacekeepers. Nothing to worry about.
- Sazh: Maybe not for a soldier girl, but— (Lightning darts out from hiding.) Hey!
- (After fighting their way past the PSICOM soldiers and Pantherons, Lightning and Sazh reach a dead end when the bridge collapses.)
- Sazh: Do we turn back?
- Lightning: There's no time.
- Sazh: Then what do you suggest we do?
- Lightning: Quiet.
- (Lightning activates her anti-gravity device to jump over the bridge but Sazh latches onto her, to her dismay.)
- Lightning: Let go!
- Sazh: Hell no! You're my only way out of here!
- (She decks him off her, but finds her device was damaged in the scuffle. Sazh notices a nearby airship.)
- Sazh: Hey, that might get us across! Right there. Right?
- Lightning: Looks that way.
- (They arrive at the airship as they encounter a PSICOM officer and his group.)
- PSICOM Marauder: Deportees, are we? Weapons down. I'd hate for this to get ugly.
- Sazh: Huh?...Turn ugly?
- Lightning: He wants to kill us without a fight.
- PSICOM Marauder: (charging) Time's up!
- (After the fight, Sazh attempts to start up the ship while talking to Lighting.)
- Sazh: So, Soldier...What's your angle? What, is it classified military info? What's the matter? You quit, didn't you? You think I'm gonna go out there and just tell everybody your secret?
- Lightning: Pulse fal'Cie. My 'angle'. I'm after the fal'Cie.
- (With Sazh speechless, Lightning succeeds in starting up the airship.)
- Lightning: Still happy you tagged along?
- Sazh: Didn't have a choice...
- Galenth's Voice: On behalf of Cocoon citizens...I would like to thank our brave Pulse pioneers...and express our best wishes for a successful relocation. Your noble and selfless sacrifice ensures the continued safety and peace of our society. Were it not for this remarkable gesture, every resident of Coccon, your family, your friends, your neighbors, would be exposed to the dangers of the world below. By chosing to leave, you participate in this migration—
- (A radio projecting this message is crushed by Snow.)
- Yuj: Migration? More like extermination.
- Snow: Yuj. You stay here.
- Yuj: Sorry...I didn't mean to...
- Snow: (shaking his head) These people need heroes. (turns to Yuj) You keep your cool and they will too, got it?
- Yuj: Got it.
- Snow: What's our motto?
- Yuj: The—the army's no match for NORA!
- Snow: That a boy.
- (Snow leaves to check up on those fighting at the front.)
--
- Maqui: This is crazy!
- Gadot: Then take a nap.
- Maqui: Really? Can I?
- Gadot: Sure, and when we're taking a dirt nap, you can save everyone.
- (An explosion sounds in the distance, startling Maqui.)
- Maqui: Ahhh! It's even worse!
- Snow: No dirt naps today. We're all in this together. Our enemy's the Cocoon Sanctum. Their dreaded PSICOM, no less.
- Lebreau: What's to dread? PSICOM's nothing but a whole bunch of bluster and bullying. They got nothing on NORA.
- Gadot: Well, we are the heroes after all!
- Snow: Let's prove it!
- (Battle ensues.)
- Maqui: Ahh, not more...
- Lebreau: There are soldiers everywhere.
- Gadot: Yo, Boss. What's the plan?
- Snow: We charge in, guns blazing.
- Maqui: Hey! That's not a plan!
- Lebreau: Real heroes don't need plans.
- (After taking down the soldiers, they make their way to the Purgees.)
- Maqui: (stumbles, holding the guns)
- Snow: Hey, watch it.
- Maqui:(chuckles)
- Snow: Don't worry, no one's moving to Pulse today. We'll clear you a path out of here, so be ready to—
- Purgee #1: Wait! Let me fight with you!
- Purgee #2: Yeah! You can't expect us to just sit here!
- Purgee #1: Please. Let us help you!
- Snow: Okay then. Volunteers front and center.
- (Those wanting to fight get up and pick up the guns that Maqui places before them.)
- Maqui: Here...here's one for you...and one for you...Take care now.
- Nora: (stands up)
- Hope: Mom?
- Nora: Don't worry.
- Snow: You're sure?
- Nora Yeah. Moms are tough.
- Snow: Right.
- Gadot: (hands Snow a gun) Last one, Boss.
- Snow: All right, last one. Somebody take it.
- (Hope shudders away as Vanille volunteers.)
- Vanille: Here.
- Snow: (handing her the gun) Push comes to shove, keep them safe.
- Vanille: (points gun at Snow and pretends to shoot) Bang!
- Vanille (narrating): First impression of Snow? All talk.
- Snow: All right, lay low and you'll be fine. We'll clear out the area. We're going home together!
- Lebreau: Come on, everybody up!
- Gadot: New recruits! On me!
- Snow: Time to go.
- Nora: Right.
- Lebreau: (hauling up Hope) Time to go, kiddo!
--
- (Snow's group fights off PSICOM soldiers as a Sanctum ship arrives and starts mowing down the resistance.)
- Gadot: We got trouble!
- Snow: No kidding!
- (Snow attempts to get a gun, but misses as he is at close range to the airship's gun. But Nora grabs the weapon and saves Snow to his shock.)
- Nora: I told you, didn't I? Moms are tough.
- (An explosion occurs that destroys the bridge with Vanille and Hope watching it from a distance. On the collasping bridge, Snow is horrified to see the people he vowed to help falling to their deaths as he and Nora slide now as well. Snow grabs onto a latch and gets a firm grip on Nora as she regains consciousness.)
- Nora Get him home...Please...
- Snow: Hold on!
- (Nora loses her grip and falls to her death with Snow following as the rest of the bridge falls down. Hope, seeing it from afar, is stunned to speechlessness.)
- Vanille: Come on! (slaps Hope's cheek) We have to move!
- Hope: (still stunned) O—okay...
- (The two run off.)
- Sazh: It's an out-and-out massacre. Those people won't even live long enough to die on Pulse.
- Lightning: That was the idea.
- Sazh: What?
- Lightning: Sanctum logic. They conjured up the Purge to eliminate a threat. I mean—why carry the danger all the way to Pulse? Why not just stamp it out here? Execution masquerading as exile. That's all the Purge ever was.
- Sazh: 'Relocation to Pulse.' How does the government get away with pulling crap like that? And you—you knew this was gonna happen?
- Lightning: The Purge was PSICOM. Private Sanctum troops, not the Guardian Corps.
- Sazh: PSICOM, Guardian Corps...Soldiers are soldiers, aren't they? Pulse fal'Cie, and l'Cie, are enemies of the state. Tell a soldier to kill an enemy...and you really think it's gonna matter what uniform he's wearing?
- Lightning: (gestures to body of dead soldier) Might have mattered to that one. Couldn't shoot, got himself shot instead.
- Sazh: How about you? Orders say shoot, you pull the trigger? Fine. Forget I asked.
- Lightning: Wait...What?
- (Myrmidon appears. After its defeat, Sanctum's reinforcements arrive on the scene.)
- Galenth's Voice: Attention Purge deportees. Attention Purge deportees. Put down your weapons and surrender immediately. Your removal is the will of the people of Cocoon. Should you attempt to flee, the Sanctum will employ every resource necessary to bring you to justice. This land is no longer your home. Cease hostilities and surrender at once.
- Snow: Serah...
- (Scene changes to Lightning and Sazh.)
- Sazh: Just what you're looking for?
- Lightning: Yeah, right in there.
- Sazh: The Pulse fal'Cie, huh?
- (Scene changes to Vanille with Hope.)
- Child: Mom...
- Mother: Don't worry.
- Hope: (staring wistfully at the mother and child)
- (Vanille disrobes, and smiles at Hope when she catches him staring at her. She picks up a gun and gives it to Hope.)
- Vanille: Here.
- Hope: (stammers helplessly and stares at gun)
- Vanille: (hugs Hope) It's too much, isn't it? Face it later.
- Hope: (stares questioningly at Vanille)
- Vanille: (giggles and runs off) Ciao!
- Hope: Hey! Wait! (runs after Vanille)
- Vanille (Narrator): You said it made you happy when I smiled, didn't you? But really...I was afraid. I was always afraid.
--
- Snow: Come on.
- [Gadot comes too.]
- Gadot: What about the others?
- (Snow is silent.)
- Gadot: They didn't die! They can't die!
- Snow: 'Course not!
- 'Gadot: Hey, get a grip, man! What's wrong with you?
- Snow: Get him home? Get who home?
- (An airship lands by.)
- Gadot: Toss me that.
- Snow: Catch.
- (Snow tosses Gadot a gun, only to find him aiming it at him.)
- Snow: What're you doing?!
- Gadot: So what are you afraid of? You're supposed to be the hero. (lowers the gun) She's waiting, ain't she? Your lovely bride-to-be. Ain't it about time you picked her up?
- Snow: Yeah.
- (They both notice several hoverbikes.)
- Snow: There's our ride.
- 'Gadot: Now you're talking!
- (Snow and Gadot make their way to the bikes.)
- PSICOM lead soldier: I want every weapon ready to fire. Stay sharp.
- Snow: All right, on my mark.
- Gadot: Right!
- Snow: Go!
- (After taking out the PSICOM soldiers, Snow and Gadot take the bikes.)
- Gadot: (starting up the engines) That's a sad, sad sound. Where's the soul?
- Snow: Hey, Gadot.
- Gadot: Yeah?
- Snow: If you don't know who you got to save, you just protect them all, right?
- Gadot: Something on your mind? You got plenty of time for thinking on the way, hero.
- Snow: Yeah...
- (They arrive at the rest of NORA.)
- Snow: It's us! Don't shoot.
- Maqui: Snow!
- Gadot: Since when do you care about kids?
- Snow: Favor for a friend.
- Gadot: Okay...
- Maqui: Hey, Snow, you made it!
- Lebreau: Hey.
- (Nearby, Hope and Vanille approach, observing the group.)
- Hope: That's the one.
- Vanille: Didn't you have something to tell him?
- Hope: Yeah.
- Vanille: All right then.
- Hope: But...I...
- Vanille: I'll go with you. Go on. (gives Hope a push, but he is still too shy)
- Vanille: Hey!
- Snow: (starts up the engines) I'll swing by the Vestige. Keep the kids out of trouble!
- Gadot: You got it. Say hi to the missus for me. You go skirt-chasing, I take care of the kids. Some husband!
- Snow: Dinner's on me.
- Gadot: Better be home cooking!
- Yuj: When's the wedding, lover-boy?
- Snow: Haha, don't worry. None of you are invited.
- Yuj: We're still going!
- Maqui: Hey, are you serious?!
- Lebreau: Hey, what about me?!
- Snow: Catch ya later!
- (Snow drives off with Vanille yelling him to come back.)
- [Scene changes to Vanille and Hope, inspecting an airbike.]
- Vanille: You okay?
- Hope: I want to tell him, it's just that...
- [Grabs Vanille's wrist.]
- Vanille: Say, you know how to fly this?
- Hope: Yeah, I think so.
- Vanille: All right! In you go!
- [She pushes him in the hoverbike as she takes the backseat.]
- Vanille: (Points to the Vestige) That way.
- Hope: No...no...
- Vanille: Hm...?
- Hope: If we go in there...that thing could...it could make us l'Cie. I don't think I...
- Vanille: You can do it!
- Gadot: WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING?!
- Hope: Here we go!
- [Starts up the bike with Gadot yelling them to come back.]
- Vanille (Narrator): The Pulse fal'Cie. It held our future...and our fate.
[edit] Chapter 2
- Vanille: (coming to within Lowerworld Vestige) That was close...Where is the...(finally notices the damaged hoverbike) Oops...Well, then...Guess it's...just us.
- Hope: What did you expect? Even soldiers know not to go near the fal'Cie. You become a Pulse l'Cie, and you're finished.
- Vanille: (puts hands on hips) What do you mean, "finished"?
- Hope: Haven't you heard, Miss...?
- Vanille: Vanille.
- Hope: Huh?
- Vanille: My name. And yours? (offers her hand)
- Hope: ...Hope. (takes her hand and rises; Vanille helps him brush himself off) Thank you. (shakes head) What were we thinking?
- Vanille: Well, since we're here...let's look around!
- Hope: (stares at her doubtfully) Uh...?
- (They walk deeper into the Vestige. Vanille catches sight of a pedestal.)
- Vanille: Check this out! (climbs up the pedestal)
- Hope: Hey, Vanille, where are you-?
- (Vanille reappears from behind the statue, carrying a binding rod. Before Hope's eyes, she executes several attack moves, and waits for his approval.)
- Vanille: Well?
- Hope: That's...
- (A monster wakes and sees the two, attacking them. A fight ensues.)
- Vanille: (after the fight) Okay! Back to exploring!
- (Later...)
Hope: Aren't you scared?
- Vanille: Not so much.
- Hope: You really don't get it, do you?
- Vanille: (stops and swings around indignantly) Pulse l'Cie and fal'Cie are bad news. That's why Cocoon kicked them out. Get too close to the fal'Cie, one-way ticket to Pulse. (turns back to Hope) That's the Purge, in a nutshell!
- Hope: If they catch us, they'll Purge us too. And then—
- Vanille: (cutting him off) What's your problem?
- Hope: What's my—? Pulse is hell on earth! (stares bitterly at the floor, too furious to speak)
- Vanille: (hugs him soothingly) We'll be okay. Calm down!
- Hope: (breaks away from her) Get off me.
- Sazh: Still won't budge? I think the door is winning.
- Lightning: Why didn't I listen?
- Sazh: Beg your pardon?
- Lightning: It was me. This is my fault.
- Sazh: Beg your pardon?
- Lightning: Cover your ears.
- Sazh: Oh, blast charge? Hold on, hold on! (runs away to a safe distance) Make it happen.
- Lightning: I'm so sorry...Please let me in. Please?
- (The door opens.)
- Sazh: What the—hey! What did—How'd you open it? After you.
- [Door closes behind them]
--
- Sazh: If those thing are still around, might be some soldiers trapped in here, too. Except they'd be l'Cie by now. Not even human anymore. Just Pulse l'Cie, Enemies of Cocoon Can't show 'em any mercy
- [Hearing Snow as he activates the system.]
- Hope: he is here. calling himself a hero....
- Vanille: He's coming our way.
- Hope: What should I do?
- Vanille: Tell him what you need tell to!
- Hope: But nothing I say will change what happened.
- Vanille: We could just to run away?
- [The two arrive to a location, seeing Cie'th lumber into view]
- [The two arrive to a location, seeing Cie'th lumber into view froom]
- Hope: What are they?
- Vanille: Cie'th! l'Cie who failed! This is what happens--when l'Cie don 't complete the focus the fal'Cie gave them.
- [The Cie'th surround the two as Snow comes to their aid]
- Snow: Let's even these odds!
- [Fight]
- Snow: How did you get in here? You gotta leave.
- [Vanille chuckled nervously as Hope mopes.]
- Snow: Okay, listen. Find someplace to hide and keep quiet. Once I find Serah, we'll all leave together You'll be home for dinner.
- Hope: You-
- Vanille: Wait! Who's Serah?
- Snow: My wife. Future wife, that is. She's a Pulse l'Cie. She's here somewhere with that fal'Cie. I gotta find her and set her free,
- Hope: What's wrong with you? Why do you want to help a l'Cie?! They're the enemy! How can you save a l'Cie and not...and not.... That's insane!
- Snow: Probably. But I gotta do something, right? I'll be back.
- [He runs off as Vanille worries about Hope]
- Vanille: Should we wait for him, and hitch a ride?
- Hope: I'd rather go to Pulse! Why is this happening to me? When they found the fal'Cie the other day, we were just visiting Bodhum. But the army took us. Threw us on that train...And because of that guy, Mom is--And he wants to help a l'Cie?
- [Vanille sees Snow returning]
- Snow: Hey again.
- Vanille: Let's go with him.
- Hope: What?
- Vanille: You've gotta talk to him, Hope. If you don't take this chance, you'll regret it forever
- Hope: Okay
- Vanille: Okay.
- Snow: Let's go!
- Sazh: What's gotten into you, Soldier? I thought you came for a figh.
- Lightning: My sister...
- Sazh: Your sister?
- Lightning: She's a l'Cie.
- Sazh: What? A Pulse l'Cie?
- Lightning: The fal'Cie has her captive. But I'll find her.
- Sazh: Is she still..? What was her Focus? When she became a l'Cie, what did the fal'Cie
order her to do? It wasn't 'blow up Cocoon,' or anything like that, was it?
- Lightning: I didn't ask...
- [Cie'th lumber into view]
- Sazh: Listen to me. When a person gets cursed by the fal'Cie, they become l'Cie. Then
they get given a Focus, right? How do I put this? If they don't carry it out, l'Cie end up as one of those things. What I'm saying is, if your sister's gone that far...I mean--! She might still--! How can I--? Oh, man There's no way to turn a l'Cie back into human. Even if she complete her Focus, there's no changing her fate. She'll live her life as a fal'Cie slave. Don't make her suffer.
- Lightning: Just say it! Any l'Cie...Anyone who might even become a l'Cie should be wiped
off the face of Cocoon! It's people like you that the started the Purge in the first place. --
- Lighting: Serah!
- Lighting: Time to go. We have to leave before the army...What?
- Sazh: That's a Pulse Brand. That girl's a l'Cie.
- Lighting: I already told that.
- Sazh: The Pulse l'Cie are enemies of Cocoon.
- Lighting: So they should die!?
- Sazh: Listen, If she can't complete her Focus, you know how that will end.
- Lighting: And killing her is a mercy?!
- Serah: You came...
- Lighting: Serah.
- [Snow's group arrives]
- Snow: Serah.
- Serah: Is that, my hero...?
- Snow: Let's get you out of here.
- Lighting: Hands off! She's coming with me.
- Snow: Sis, I-
- Lighting: I'm not your sister! You couldn't save anyone. It's your fault she-
- Serah: Save us...
- Lighting: Serah?
- Serah: You can save us...protect us all...save Cocoon.
- Lighting: Save Cocoon? Serah, is that your Focus?
- Snow: Anything, I'll do anything. Just leave it to me. I'll save Cocoon.
- Lighting: Somehow, I'll think of something.
- Snow: You just relax.
- Serah: Thank you. (crystallizes before Snow and Lightning's eyes)
- Snow: Serah! Serah!
- Vanille: Why is she turning into crystal?
- Hope: l'Cie who full their Focus are transformed into crystal and gain eternal life.
- Sazh: Just like the stories say.
- Snow: Serah...Sweet dreams...
- Lighting: Sweet dreams? She's not sleeping! Serah...She's---
- Snow: She's alive. The legend! Remember legend! l'Cie who fullfil their focus turn to crystal and gain eternal life. It's the same with Serah! Eternal life! She's not dead! Serah's my bride-to-be. I promised to be her's forever.I don't care how long I have to wait--
- [Lightning slugs him]
- Lighting: It's over! Open your eyes and face reality!
[The place starts to shake]
- Vanille: What's happening!?
- Sazh: Must be a Sanctum strike. Bring down the Vestiage and the fal'Cie right with it!
- Vanille: Can't they just sent it back to Pulse!? That's what the Purge is right? Aren't they taking it back to Pulse? That's what the Purge was, right?
- Sazh: All they care about is getting everything from Pulse off Cocoon.Dead or alive, it's all the same
- Hope: We can't stay here! They'll kill us!:[the door to Anima opens up]
- Snow: (to Serah before he walks towards the door) I'll be right back. Hold on.
- Sazh: Trench coat! Where are you going?
- Snow: Date with the fal'Cie. Got some things to talk about..
- Sazh: What? You're asking it to help her? Are you out of mind, kid? The thing wants to chew and spit us out!
- Snow: Well, what do you want me to do?!
- Snow: (seeing Lightning going ahead of him) Lighting...
--
- Hope: So this...is the fal'Cie...?
- Snow: Serah's a crystal now. You gave her a Focus. and she did it. You got what you want! Now let her go!
- [No answer as Snow gets on his knees]
- Snow: Please. Turn her back! I'll be your l'Cie instead!
- [Lightning takes out her gunblade]
- Lightning: Fine, you go on begging! Like this thing gives a damn what we want!
- [Attacks the fal'Cie to everyone's shock.]
- Snow: Lightning!
- Lightning: It's this thing's fault the Purge started,-and it's people who are dying. Serah told us to save Cocoon, that means this thing needs to die!
- [She provokes the fal'Cie Anima from its rest. Hope attempts to run, but the fal'Cie blocked the only exit.]
- Sazh: Come on, now. You really think you can kill a fal'Cie?
- Lightning: I'm doing this for Serah.
- Sazh: Dajh...I'm in. As long as you don't mind an amateur I got these things, might as well use 'em.
- Lightning: Thanks.
--
- [Find themselves in a strange space.]
- Lightning: Where are we?
- Snow: What's going on?
- [Anima emerges and makes them l'Cie before releasing them.]
---
- Vanille (Narrator): When I couldn't see a future and I was afraid. When the future was clear and it hurt to see, I just close my eyes and lose myself in happier days.
[edit] Chapter 3
- Snow: Serah! Is this...for real...?
- Sazh: This must be...Lake Bresha? I guess we fell from up there, and the lake turned into crystal? Help me out here! I mean did the fal'cie do this? How in the world did we end up here?
- Lightning: How would I know.
- Vanille: We've alive. But how?
- Snow: Serah! No one survives a fall like that, not without a miracle Serah saved us!
- Lightning: Serah? Listen, it's all your fault that she got--
- [Cie'th attack]
- Snow: Watch out!
- [Snow destroys the Cie'th with a freezing punch.]
- Snow: What did I...just do?
- Hope: He used magic! You used the power of a l'Cie! The fal'Cie cursed us! We're l'Cie now!
- [More Cie'th appears]
- Lightning: Right.
- [After defeating the Cie'th.]
- Snow: So we really are l'Cie.
- Sazh: Look like it.
- Snow: You too?
- Vanille: (showing her mark) Yep. Right here..
- Snow: Okay...
- Lightning: l'Cie to the last...
- Hope: Why me? I don't even know you, but you have to go and attack that thing?!
- [No one could answer]
- Hope: Just leave me alone! It's your fault-- It's you fault my-- You could've-- All of this is your and Serah's fault!
- Snow: Watch it!
- [Hope cowers, and cries.]
- Snow:Sorry.
- Vanille: Everything is going to be alright. You see?
- [later]
- Lightning: Okay, if we don't know our Focus, how do we complete?
- Vanille: I think... I saw it.
- Lightning: Saw what?
- Sazh: That is how a Focus comes down, people. The fal'Cie? They don't spell it our with clear-cut instructions. All you get is a hazy glimpse. [Light & Snow look at him] Well, that's what they say. You know, legends and all.
- Lightning: Did you remember anything?
- Hope: I uh--I just...It's all kind of foggy, but...I saw this big---I mean towering--
- Sazh: W-Wait a minute. Hold on now. Did we all have the same dream?
- Lightning and Snow: Ragnarok.
- Sazh: So, we all saw the same dream. We all heard the same voice.
- Hope: You mean that was our Focus? But how are we supposed to know what to do from that?
- Vanille: That's the tricky part. The dream's the only hint the fal'Cie gave us, Figuring out what to do with it---that's our job!
- Sazh: Okay.. Okay... We're Pulse l'Cie, right... Enemies of Cocoon! So does that mean that our Focus is--Are we supposed to--
- Snow: Save her.
- Sazh: Say what?
- Snow: Our Focus is to protect Cocoon.
- Vanille: Really? Okay, and why's that?
- Snow: Serah told us. Let's do it! We're all in this together. I'm gonna look for Serah. She ought to be by!
- Vanille: I'll come to too!
- Sazh: That boy can't stay still.
---
- Snow: We fight it! Ragnarok. That's the we're l'Cie. To stop it--to keep Cocoon safe!
- Sazh: Yeah, why don't you give us one reason to believe that? One reason.
- Snow: Serah. She said to protect to Cocoon, and then she turned to crystal. That's the proof right there. She completed her Focus! That means ours is to save Cocoon. Serah's fal'Cie is the same as ours. Our Focus has got be the same. We were chosen to be guardians, to defeat Ragnarok! It makes sense!
- Sazh: The hell it does! You're grasping at straws, son! Pulse fal'Cie are Cocoon's enemies. We just got recruited by one of them. If I were a betting man...I'd put us on the other side.
- Snow: So Serah's an enemy too? Well I don't buy it! We have the power to save Coccon. If we work together and carry out out Focus---
- Lightning:(taking out her Blaze Edge and putting it near Snow's head) Our Focus? The fal'Cie took Serah from us and you want to help it? Whose side are you one?
- Psicom soldiers: Freeze! Put your hands being your heads!
- [Lightning drops her blade as the others do as ordered.]
- Psicom leader: You fall of the Purge train?
- Lightning: Maybe?
- Psicom leader: Are you talking back to me?
- Lightning: Nice gun.
- Solders Stop her!
- Soldier: Her!
- [Lighting takes out the soldiers]
- Sazh: I thought they'd be touger than that. These guys are PSICOM, yeah? Supposed to be cream-of-the-crop.
- Snow: Yeah, but PSICOM's an anti-Pulse task force. Haven't fought a war in centuies.Bunch of rookie troops swining around overpriced toys.
- Sazh: So, from what you're telling me, it sounds like a regular old soldier...has got more training than special forces.
- Snow: Nothing for us l'Cie to be afriad off.
Lightning: Cut the crap. Their grunts might be green, but PSICOM's elites are cold-blooded beasts. They hit the field and it's game over.
- Vanille: Oh-oh! Then let's run away! Ciao!
- [Runs ahead of the group.]
---
- Sazh: It's not right. Why'd kids have to get dragged into this mess?
- Snow: I'll keep the kids out of trouble.
- Sazh: Problem is, you're one of them.
- Snow: Hey!
- Sazh:Trying to take on the Pulse fal'Cie, that was our first mistake.Should have left it to the Sanctum. Why not? I mean, we've counted on the Sanctum fal'Cie for food, water...everything we've needed since the time we were born
- Snow: But you still helped us do it. Why's that? Gotta be something.
- Sazh: There might've been. Not so sure anymore.
---
- Lightning: Serah.
- Snow: Serah! Serah! I'll get you out of there.
- Vanille: I'll help you.
- Snow: Thanks.
[Sazh joins in]
- Lightning: This is good-bye.
- [She walks off as Snow notices]
- Snow: Lightning? You're just gonna leave her?
- Lightning: PSICOM will be here soon. If they find us, we're all dead. You think Serah would what that? You think you know how she feels?
Snow: If I leave her, then I'll never know. We'll be fine. I can handle anything they throw as us. No one's gonna die. I'll protect Serah... and Cocoon.
- [Lightning angrily walks over and slugs him]
- Lightning: Does she look protected to you?
- Snow: I can save her!
- [Lightning knocks him to the ground]
- Lightning: What more can you do!?
- Snow: Whatever it takes.
[Light stopes as Snow resumes.]
- Sazh: You two are hopeless. You just can't admit it. You want to stay as much as he does.
- [The damaged Manasvin Warmech appears]
- Snow: Stand back!!
- [Boss Fight]
- Snow: You're leaving?
- Sazh: We want to help Serah too. But without tools...we could be digging for days. The army's on our trail. For now, we've got to keep moving. For now.
- Snow: So I just abandon her, and save myself?
- Lightning: What about our focus? What happened to banding together to save the world? It's that what you promised? Now you want to forget it all and die here? Snow? You're nothing but talk.
- Snow: Lightning! I'll do whatever it takes. I'll finish this Focus...and keep Serah save. That's my promise.
- Lightning: Great job so far.
- [Lightning leaves]
- Snow: Stay out of trouble.
- Sazh: You too.
- Snow: Get going.
[Sazh leaves after Lightning as Vanille follows with Hope behind her.]
- Snow: Later
- Vanille: Okay
- [Hope stops and walks toward Snow]
- Hope: Snow...
- Snow: Save it for next time, kiddo. You'll get left behind.
- [Hope is relucant]
Snow: It's okay, Hope. Light will take care for you. We'll meet again
- Hope: Yeah. Count on it.
- [Runs off, looking to back to Snow as he resumes freeing Serah.]
- Hope: Count on it.
- Snow: I'll get you out of there.
--
- Sazh: They must be hunting for Purge survivors.
- Vanille: I hope everyone made it out okay.
- Sazh: So do it. But nowhere is safe for them now. Damn it! Just 'cause they shared a neighborhood with a fal'Cie...They get treated like Pulse-tainted rats.
- Vanille: People really hate Pulse, don't they.
- Sazh: Not hate. More like fear. Tens of millions of people...all scared of Pulse boogeymen. They'd be shaken in their beds every night if they knew...that l'Cie like us were around.
- Vanille: But...They Purged that entire town
- Sazh: It's crazy, I know. But the Sanctum fal'Cie did nothing to stop it. Up until now, Eden's always stepped in...to correct their errors in judgment. Guess humans aren't worth the effort. Figure they'll let us just kill each other off.
- Hope: l'Cie are not human.
- Vanille: Listen you, that's enough.
- [she sees Hope's mark]
- Vanille: We're still alive. That's something.
- [ships fly pass them.]
- Lightning: They're sealing off the area/ They're trying to trap the straggers. We've got to get moving before we're caught in the net.
--
- Vanille: Whoa. This whole place is crystal!
- Sazh: I wonder what it would be like. To become a crystal, I mean.
- Vanille: You're gonna to complete your Focus?
- Sazh: Maybe. If I knew what it was. I probably don't want to know.
- Vanille: Did Serah say anything about her Focus?
- Lightning: Nothing...
- Vanille: Oh, you know what? She probably didn't want to worry you.
- Lightning: Or she just didn't think she could trust me.
- [They enter a the Gates of Antiquity.]
- Lightning: Stay close.
- Vanille: I want to look around.
- [A Garuda Interceptor appears and chases after Vanille]
- Sazh: Over here!
- [Boss fight]
- Vanille: Check it out!
- [the gang approach an airship]
- Sazh: Come on, hop to it. Let's go.
- Vanille: This will make things easier.
- Sazh: Yeah, knowing our luck. It's probaly missing an engine.
- Vanille: You shouldn't be so negative.
- Sazh: And you shouldn't get your hopes up.
- [They get on, unaware of being watched by Minerva]
---
- [Back with Snow, he continues to free Serah as PSICOM forces arrive.]
- Voice: Sweep Team to base. l'Cie spotted. I repeat, l'Cie spotted. Pulse l'Cie, confirmed.
- Snow: You're gonna lend me a hand, or what?
- [soldiers appear.]
- Voice: Commencing cleanup protocol.
- Snow: Cleanup? Let me help!
- [Snow fights them until the Shiva Sisters manifest and knock the soldiers out.]
- Snow: What's happening?
- [The Shiva Sisters attack Snow, who manages to tame them before collapsing.]
- Fang: The twin sisters. I gotta hand it to you for taking 'em down. But don't gloat just yet. Might com a time you wish you let 'em end it and made things easy.
- [Snow gets up]
- Snow: More of you, huh?
- Fang: He's a l'Cie. Take him.
- Snow: Back off!
- Fang: You want to keep breathing? Shut up and come quiet.
- [knocks him out before an Airship arrives to take Serah as Snow comes too]
- Snow: Serah. Serah!
- soldier: Shut it!
- Fang: Stand down.
- [He notices Fang's l'Cie mark]
- Snow: You too? Why are you helping them?
- Fang: If I were you, I'd worry about myself.
- [After escaping PSICOM in the airship.]
- Vanille: Hey. Umm, who is this guy?
- Sazh: I mean, what do they teach kids these days? He's Galenth Dysley. The Sanctum Primarch. Murderer-in-chief.
- Lightning: Just another tool of the fal'Cie.
[edit] Chapter 4
- Vanille: (to Sazh) Hey! Wake up! (to Hope) You got to wake up! (to Sazh) Look!
- [she and Sazh run to Lightning's aid against a pack of Pantherons]
- Sazh: Got to keep you kids safe, right?
- [fight]
- Vanille: Ahhh! Glad that's over.
- Sazh: Man, I'm beat. What, no break?
- Lightning: They're tracking us.
- Sazh: I know that, I know that, but we aren't soldiers! We don't have your kind of stamina.
- Lightning: You got enough to complain.
- [Walks off to Sazh's dismay.]
- Hope: I think, um...
- Sazh: I'd stick with her if I were you.
- Hope: Later, then.
- [runs off after Lightning]
- Vanille: Come on. Let's get going.
- Sazh: Get going to where, extactly? The whole of Cocoon's against us. No matter how far we run, there's no escape. That Cie'th clock, it's still tickin'
- Vanille: There's still time. You give up too easy, old man.
- Sazh: I'm not giving up. But there are some things that you just can't change. A kid like you would not understand.
- Vanille: Yeah, I'm a kid! I don't understand!
- Sazh: Well, I guess we can be fugitives together.
---
- Hope: Can we get through this way, you think? You...know where you're going, right?
- Lightning: I've been here on missions before.
- Hope: Missions...? Nothing to do with the Purge, though?
- Lightning: The Purge is PSICOM's baby. Our military is split into two arms: the Public Security and Intellegence Command, known as PSICOM, and the Guardian Corp, I was Guardian Corps, Bodhum security regiment.
- Hope: Wait, but I don't get it. If you're not PSICOM, then why did you board the train?
- Lightning: For Serah. I had to rescue Serah before they transported the Vestige to Pulse, and out of my reach. My only chance to save her was to join the Purge.
- Hope: You're telling me that you got on that train so you can save your sister? That's crazy. I could never do something like that.
- Lightning: It's not a question of can or can't. There are some things in life you just do.
- Hope: Easy for someone like you to say.
[Lighting heads off, leaving Hope behind to wait for her return.]
- Hope: She left me.
- [Vanille and Sazh arrive]
- Vanille: We made it!
- Sazh: Where's Grumpy? Got left behind, huh?
- [He tries to befriend Hope]
- Hope: Leave me alone! This is pointless. Can't keep up. Can't go home. It's over for me.
- Vanille: It's not over. We'll get you home!
- Hope: I don't have one. Now that Mom is...
- Vanille: What about your dad?
- Hope: That night, they found the fal'Cie in the Bodhum Vestige. The next day, soldiers sealed the town and we couldn't get back to Palumpolum. They forced us onto the train with everyone else. My mom, she was frantic. She wanted to get us home, so she tried to fight. She got tricked, by Snow! He used her!
- Vanille: let's get you home, okay. Your dad gotta be worried!
- Hope: Let him worry. Why should I care? He doesn't.
- Sazh: Any father cares...?
- Vanille: Sazh?
- Sazh: It's nothing. Forget it.
- [messes with an objects]
- Sazh: This outta do it
- [opens a path]
- Sazh: We've got time. We'll get you back home. Your dad will be happy to see you.
---
- Vanille: Isn't that—a
Sazh: A warship from Pulse.
- Vanille: You mean they made it that far?
- Sazh: Of course not. Not during the war, not since. They might have tried. But none of their forces made it into Cocoon. Thry only damaged the outer rim. Then the Sanctum's fal'Cie pushed them back. What, did you skip through history class?
- Vanille: More or less. So, what's a ship from Pulse doing here?
- Hope: Once the war was over, people couldn't live near the rim anymore. In places like the Hanging Edge. So the fal'Cie, they gathered up scrap from Pulse and used it for rebuilding here.
This is what was left: a bunch of garbage.
- Sazh: Who'da thunk? A Pulse fal'Cie and who-knows-what, mixed in with all the trash?
- Vanille: Who'da thunk…
- [Lightning jumps in as the group takes its leave]
- Sazh: Hey, welcome to the party.
- Vanille: You miss us?
- [Lightning walks off without a word]
- Sazh: Would it kill her to smile?
---
- [Dreadnaut appears]
- Sazh: What is that?
- Lightning: Pulse armament
- Sazh: And that's bad for us, isn't it?
- Lightning: You have eyes, don't you?
- [Fight, part 1. Dreadnaut]
- Sazh: Though we were goners. You alright?
- Vanille: I think so
- Lightning: Incoming!
[Fight, part 2]
- Sazh: Pulse is crawling with things that, isn't it?
- Lightning: Got me. Not even the Corps has access to intel on Pulse. Soldiers in the field fight blind.
- Sazh: Yeah, I noticed that. But don't you need to know exactly what you're up against?
- Lightning: Target's a target.
- Sazh: You like to keep it simple, don't you?
- Lightning: I stick to my goal
- Hope: As long as you have a goal, you can fight?
- Lightning: You can stay alive.
---
- Sazh: Not much of a future for us.
- Lightning: Hard to picture a happy ending.
- Sazh: We don't even know where to go.
- Lightning: I do. There.
- Sazh: Eden? The Sanctum's seat of power Oh, that a great idea. Just charge right in there. Give them a taste of l'Cie terror!… (looks at Lightning) You're serious?
- Lightning: Keep running—it's die or turn Cie'th. There's no place for l'Cie to hide. No…they want a fight? Let's take it to the Sanctum's door!
- Sazh: This isn't a game!
- Lightning: No. That's for damn sure. I started with Serah. The fal'Cie took her. Now I'm a l'Cie. And the Sanctum's hunting me, an enemy of the state. But who's pulling their strings? A fal'Cie. Eden. Cocoon's Sustainer and Guiding Light. It probably ordered the Purge, too. Pulse and Sanctum fal'Cie? They're all the same. And we're all the same to them: expendable. I'm not dying a fal'Cie slave.
- Sazh: So? What are you going to do?
- Lightning: Destroy it.
- Sazh: By yourself? What, are you crazy? Say you pull it off…what's that get you? Satisfaction? Something happen to Eden, it's lights out Cocoon! [Realized something.] You want that. You're a Pulse l'Cie now, so you just want to snuff out Cocoon!
- Vanille: No! What about Serah? She said to save Cocoon! It might even be our Focus to make sure Cocoon stays—
- Lightning: Our Focus doesn't matter. I don't take orders from fal'Cie. How I live is up to me.
- Sazh: Don't you mean how you die?
- Lightning: Think like that, and it's already over. Better to pick up your path and keep moving. Don't worry. I'm only after the Sanctum. I'm not out to destroy the world. If it did come to that, wonder if our 'hero' would try to stop me?
- Sazh: You want to fight Snow now? Just like that, and you're enemies?
- Lightning: Next time we meet, we might be too.
- [Lightning walks off]
Hope: Snow deserves it
- [Hope runs after her]
- Vanille: I don't know what I should do
- Sazh: That makes two of us.
- [Vanille nudges him, nearly causing him to fall off the ledge.]
- Vanille: Hey! You're taking care of me!
- Sazh: Well, I won't if you keep pushing me like that.
--
- Hope: Wait for me! I'm coming with you,
- Lightning: I can't babysit you anymore
- Hope: I can fight, I'm not afraid!
- [Soldiers arrive]
- Lightning: Great, a PSICOM hit Squad
- [Escape route blocked. Fight.]
- Lightning: Not bad.
- Hope: Really? Thanks. There will be more solders. We should keep moving. Lightning? Are you worried about the other? I'm sure they got away okay?
- Lightning: So can you, if you leave now. With me, it'll be fight after fight. I don't know how it'll end. It's anybody's guess
- Hope: I know that. But-I need to be stronger. Lightning?
- Lightning: Call me Light
- Hope: What's the plan from here?
- Lightning: Through the Gapra Whitewood to Palumpolum. We'll find a transport to Eden.
- Hope: I live in Palumpolum. I can show you the short cuts.
- Lightning: No side trips
- Hope: No need. I don't think l'Cie are welcome at home.
--
- Lightning: This isn't working. I mean, you're a liabilty You'll just slow me down.
- Hope: What?
- Lightning: I'm sorry,I can't protect you when--
- [Lightning's mark reacts.]
- Hope: You can't leave me here! You've got to take me with you!
- Lightning: Enough! The whole world's out to get us. I can barely keep myself alive, let alone some helpless kid! I don't have time to baby you. You want to get tough? Do it on your own!
- [Odin appears and attacks Hope]
- Lightning: This cannot be happening. Look out!
- [Fight. After taming Odin]
- Hope: Lightning! Your brand looks different. Was that an Eidolon? Like l'Cie can summon?
- Lightning: Magic and mumbo-jumbo. I must've hit my head on that Purge train.
- Hope: Um..Am I really in your way?
- [Lightning walks off]
- Hope: I'll do better! I'll try harder, I'll
- Lightning:Hope. We'll toughen you up. I'm sorry about before.
- Sazh: Uh-Army's out to play
- Vanille: What now?
- Sazh: What now? Well we could stay here, but shouldn't we--
- Vanille: Run? We should run. If we rush in now, we'll just get in her way.
- Sazh: You know, you're right. I guess. I mean it's not like Lighting needs any help.
--
- Vanille: No sign of soldiers
- Sazh: Guess Lightning got their attention.
- Vanille: I wonder how Hope's doing?
- Sazh: They were head to Palumpolum. Kid's on his way home. You can bet on it.
- Vanille: Good for him! What's wrong?
- Sazh: It's good-if they manage to slip in quietly. All of Coccon is in the grip of Pulse-phobia. If a l'Cie pops up on the radar, all hell will break lose.
- Vanille: They don't even know why they're scared.
- Sazh: Afraid of what they don't know. Afraid to find out more. Get worse the older you get. I'm terrified of what will happen. The world probably would be better off without Pulse l'Cie. I mean, most of them
- Vanille: Gee, thanks. Let's go!
- [After making it out of the Peaks]
- Sazh: We got to sleep somewhere. This looks right.
- Vanille: Yeah. Fine my me!
- [Vanille prepares her bed]
- Vanille:(Going to sleep) All set. Okay, Good night!
- Sazh: Not a care in the world.
- [As Sazh is about to sleep too, Vanille suddently gets up and picks up a stick to make a line.]
- Sazh: What?
- Vanille: Do not cross this line. Understood?
- Sazh: Grow up.
- Vanille: And good night again!
- Sazh: Would you just go to sleep already?
- Fang: Couldn't run if you wanted to.
[The Lindblum appears]
- Snow: Ho-ho-ho! Look at you! Wonder what's under the hood of that thing?
- Fang: Keep you pants on. You'll get a peak soon enough. Just try and behave
- Snow: I'm not gonna make any promises.
- Fang: Cheeky boy, are ya? We'll see how long that lasts.
[Dock in. Fang takes Snow to the meet the Lindblum's captian.]
- Cid: You must be Snow. Cid Raines. Brigader General of the fleet
- Snow: Hi, Cid. Thanks for the escort
- Cid: Apologies. I just had a few questions to ask you. If it works like they tell us, that means she must have fulfilled her Focus.
- Snow: Serah!
- Cid: Fulfilled her Focus as a tainted Pulse l'Cie, that is.
- Snow: You think she was out to hurt Coccoon?
- Cid: I'd hardly be alone if I did. When it comes to Pulse, who could claim to know anything? I need the truth, for the sake of Cocoon.
- Snow: 'The sake of Cocoon..' We're from Cocoon! Shipping us, Purging innocent people...That's how you lend us a hand?
Cid: Those are the Sanctum's methods. The public fears what it doesn't know. It's grown tired of living in constant terror of these treats from the World below So, the Sanctum devised a plan for you l'Cie.
- Snow: I'll bet
- Cid: A public execution. The people don't know any better.Strike down the phantoms before their eyes, and they sleep like babes.
- Snow:(Being restrained) No!
- Cid: The Sanctum has intelligence on the other l'Cie already. It's only a matter of time.
- Snow: You'll never catch them.
- Cid: I see. We'll need you help then, won't we?
- Snow: Serah...
[edit] Chapter 5
- [Arrive in Gapra Whitewood]
- Hope: Can't believe we made it
- [Entrance locks behind them]
- Lightning: That will slow down any pursuit.
- Hope: But aren't there troops on this side? We can't relax just yet.
- Lightning: Right. We press forward. I take point, you watch our backs.
- Hope: Actually...Why don't you let me take point?
- Lightning: Can you handle it?
- Hope: It's not a question of can or can't.
- Lightning: Now you're learning.
- Lightning: Keep your eyes front. I'll watch the rear.
- Hope: Got it.
- [As they enter.]
- Hope:Have you been here before? On duty, I mean.
- Lightning: No, I haven't. This area's covered by the Woodlands Observation Battalion. You scared?
- Hope: Not really. I'm ready to fight if I have to.
- Lightning: [Gives Hope the knife she got from Serah,] To keep you safe. I'll want it back
- Hope: Lightning. I'm glad I followed. By myself, I would've no chance.
- [Deeper in the the woods.]
- Lightning: What is it?
- Hope:We need to hide!
- [GC soldiers pass by]
- Hope: They don't seem like they're even looking for us. I mean, we're l'Cie and we're on the loose.
- Lightning: PSICOM's keeping it all under wraps .They don't want their failure publicized. Better they lose us then their pride.
- Hope: So the other soldiers don't know about us. Right?
- Lightning: Right. They don't know anything about any fugitives
--
- [While talking about Sazh and Vanille.]
- Hope: Do you think he's still alive?
- Lightning: You mean Snow? He's too stubborn to die. And that's his best quality. He's arrogant and chummy from the get-go. He thinks he's everybody's pal. Never liked him much. He leads a bunch of kids--gang called 'NORA.'
- Hope: Where'd they get the name 'Nora?'
- Lightning: It's a stupid acronym. Their little code. Stands for 'No Obligations, Rules, or Authority.' Must be nice.
- Hope: It's irresponsible.
---
- [After going through the bio-weapons.]
- Lightning: What's eating you. Okay, I can tell you're hung up on something. Is it the l'Cie thing? It's Snow,
isn't it? What happened with him?
- Hope: You wouldn't understand
- Lightning: You and I are partners, Hope.
- Hope: My mother was killed. Because of him. It's his fault. And he needs to pay. I'm not ready yet, but I will be. Soon. That's why I followed you. Snow dragged us all into this. You and me, your sister Serah...He's gotta pay.
- [Later, finding injured soldiers]
- Hope: What happened here?
- Lightning: Bad luck. They came looking for us and found something worse.
- Hope: We can't just leave them like this.
- Lightning:Don't touch anything. Control your emotions. If you want to survive, you forget about sympathy How can I explain? Think of it like a strategy. Focus on your ultimate goal and shut out everything else. Still your mind. Move on instinct. Let doubt take over, and despair will cripple you.
- Hope: Strategy. Good. I'll take anything to help me get through this. I'll call it 'Operation Nora.'
- Lightning: NORA?
- Hope: My mother's name.
- Lightning: Your revenge?
- Hope: Yes. Don't tell me. I know getting revenge on him won't...bring her back. I know that! But 'sorry' won't cut it.
- Lightning: Snow didn't kill your mother, the Sanctum did.
- Hope: Whose side are you on?
- Lightning: The side of truth.
- Hope: Fine, I'll fight the Sanctum with you. I'll learn to survive.
- Vanille (Narrating) How can you judge someone... When you know you're the same?
---
- [After fight with Aster Protoflorian]
- Hope: Operation Nora, Stage one complete
- Lightning: You did well.
- [Once out of the Whitewood, they see the city in a distance]
- Hope: That's it. Palumpolum
- Lightning: That's where you live, right? We'll stop in when get there
- Hope: No. We're l'Cie now,and no one's there but my dad.
- Lightning: Hope..You need to let him know what happened
- Fang: Okay! Time to hunt some l'Cie!
- Snow: So what, we find'em and that that?
- Fang: Don't get all hot and bothered.
- Snow: Serah...Am I doing the right thing. I went to the fal'Cie hoping to help her. But I was too late.
- Fang: (hits Snow in the shoulder) I knew you were hard-headed, but...
- Snow: That was--ow!
- Fang: Snap to it.
- Snow: Yeah, yeah. Hunting l'Cie, right?
- Voice: This is our chance! Do no let the l'Cie escape Move out!
- Snow: I will keep my promise, Lightning.
[edit] Chapter 6
[Arrive in the Sunleth Waterscape]
- Vanille: Fresh air. Nice
- Sazh: So? Where are headed?
- Vanille: Don't know
- Sazh: You don't know? I thought you had somewhere in mind the way you took off.
- Vanille: I followed the smell
- Sazh: What?
- Vanille: It smells nice. All naturey.
- [Sazh sniffs around.]
- Sazh: Just smells damp. And I think something bit me.
- [Vanille hears something.]
- Vanille: Hide!
- Sazh: Skyfleet. Closest city that way is Palumpolum. That is not good. I wonder if those two were caught in the net?
- Vanille: What do we do?
- Sazh: What can we do? Right now, what can we do?
- Vanille: Right, no choice. We run--the other way.
- Sazh: Which would be--to Nautilus
- Vanille (Narrator): As we set off, it was like he'd forgotten that I was still here.
--
- [On their way to the dock]
- 'Vanille:' Hey, Sazh, tell me about yourself.
- Sazh: Huh?
- Vanille: Any family?
- Sazh: I have a little boy
- Vanille: Oh! So you're married!
- Sazh: I was, yeah.
- Vanille We gotta get you home Your son needs you! Come on, we'll make it!
- Sazh: It's too late
- Vanille: Is it the l'Cie thing?
- Sazh: How'd you-
- Vanille: You might be a l'Cie, but you're still a daddy. So, what's his name. Sazh?
- Sazh:Huh?
- Vanille: You're right?
- Sazh:Oh. Yeah
- Vanille: Come on, Pops! You really got to keep it togther, okay? Now--let's go?
- Sazh: Now I've got kids looking out for me. Some dad I am.
---
- Vanille: You look tired. Not enough sleep?
- Sazh: I guess.
- Vanille: Not surprising. Cute girl like me, it's hard to close your eyes, huh?.
- Sazh: I'm just gonna lie down for a bit.
- [Takes a nap. Vanille takes a seat.]
- Vanille: (to baby Chocobo) Being made a l'Cie, it's not easy. I mean, look, even I'm kind of worried. But even if we don't know what'll happen, we have to keep our dreams alive. Have something to look forward to, you kow.
- Sazh: Next stop is Nautilus--City of dreams.
- Vanille: Yup.
- [She takes a nap too. Later...]
- Vanille: What? Sazh?
- [She finds Sazh]
- Vanille: Sazh?
- Sazh: You scared me
- Vanille: What up?
- Sazh: I'm just thinking.
- Vanille: Don't blame yourself. You know, you can't control who a fal'Cie picks for its Focus.
- Sazh: My son Dajh. He was picked. He's a l'Cie. He said he wanted to see a fal'Cie. So, I took him on a tour of the Euride Gorge plant. Though i'd surprise him with a chocobo chick to take home, but the secind I turned my back...into the energy plant he went Apparently, those Pulse l'Cie had snuck in and tried to attack the Sanctum fal'Cie. It did the only thing it could, and make a Dajh a l'Cie to protect it. My son, he got picked by a Sanctum fal'Cie. He's a hero. But were' Pulse l'Cie--Dajh's enemies. PSICOM showed up right after that to take custody of him. And then, it was one test after another. Even then they couldn't fight out his Focus. Maybe it was look for Pulse l'Cie, maybe it was to kill them. Either way...how could a kid that young stand a chance? After he was made a l'Cie, Dajh had some way of sensing things from Pulse. He was the one who found the Pulse fal'Cie. But the kid can't fight. So, that's why I put myself on the train to Purgeville. I figure Focus has to have something to do with destroying the Pulse fal'Cie. Though I could do it for him, and, well...You know the rest. If I was right about his Focus, he's probably a crystal already. Of course, of he was suppose to take our that thing l'Cie...that either we die, or he's a Cie'th.
- Vanille: Die? really?
- Sazh: It's a pickle all right. But the bird--the bird says no.
---
- [See Enki and Enlil resting]
- Sazh: Uh-oh. That's not good.
- Vanille: What do we do?
- Sazh: All right, I got it! We sneak.
- Vanille: Right.
- [Enki wakes up.]
- Sazh: Just too much to ask to cut me one break, isn't it?
- Vanille: Come and get it!
- [Boss fight: Enki and Enlil]
- Sazh: A hop, skip, and jump, and we're in Natutilis
- Vanille: The 'City of Dreams'...
- Sazh: If we were dreaming up those clouds.
---
- [station]
- Sazh: We can board the ship over there.
- [starts raining. They take cover.]
- Sazh: When it rains around here, it pours. And then it rains some more/
- Vanille: Sazh...Do you hate Pulse?
- Sazh: Why wouldn't I? Look at this mess it gotten us all into! Of course, that's
not to say I always hated it. Seemed fishy. All that Sanctum ranting about the 'threat from Pulse.' 'Only a matter of time before ther strike.' 'Pulse is infested with monsters.' Scare after scare, and not even a shred of proof. Tired old cynics like me, we don't just swallow that tabloid crap. No, no. Not me. I figured the Sanctum was up to something crooked. At least until I got dragged it.
- Vanille: Yeah...
- Sazh: Now that I think about I, all this Pulse business...it really only happened because Dajh found that Pulse fal'Cie.
- Vanille: You're wrong. Don't blame him. It was all--
- Sazh: Yeah, you're right. It was that scum from Pulse behind it.
- [Vanille runs into the rain so Sazh can't see her crying.]
- Vanille (Narrator): I might as well have tired to stop the rain. I fought the tears..but they still fell
- Sazh: You're getting soaked
- Vanille: I'll be fine. It's only water.
[edit] Chapter 7
- Yaag Rosch: Attention all units. This is Director Rosch, PSICOM division. Cocoon is caught in the grip of a Pulse-born Terror. If we allow l'Cie activity to continue, panic will rip our world apart. The peace and stabilibity we have fought so hard to maintain will be nothing but a memory. These Pulse l'Cie threaten our very way of life. They must be eliminated. There can be no hestiation. That is all.
- [He gives the intercom to a solider]
- Yaag Rosch: If we fail, our citizens will pay the price.
---
- Soldier: Task force reporting
- Commander: Begin operations immeditly
- Soldier: Sir!
- Hope: We can make it. Get to the station and board the train for Eden.
- Lightning: You think it's still running?
- Hope:Well if it isn't, we'll make it run.
- Lightning: Then punch straight straight into the heart of the Sanctum? Now you're thinking like a Pulse l'Cie
- Hope: Well, this is Operation Nora. It's not just Snow I'm after. The Santcum's gonna pay too.
- [Lightning looks to have second thoughts.]
- Hope: Hey, you're the one who said we had to fight. Ever minute we waste, we're tempting fate. There's some underground tunnels not far from here. I used to play in them as a kid No one uses the entrance anymore, so even the army knows where it is. But I do. We can sneak in under their noses.
- Lightning: Sounds good.
- Hope: Great, Here we go!
- [On the way.]
- Lightning: Huh, No more rivalries now. PSICOM's brought in the Guardian Corps.
- Hope: Okay, There's an old drainage pipe. We can use it to avoid being seen. The tunnel entrance is a little further up.
---
- [Enter the Nutriculture Complex]
- Hope:Don't worry, it will be fine. Only kids like me know about ther entrance.
- Lightning: They'll find,. They'll call in a team and cancass the while tunnel system.
- Hope: Then we'd better hurry.
- Lightning: So, where this
- Hope: Well, it..it--I don't really know for sure.
- Lightning: We'll find out today..
- [They arrive at the heart of the Complex, a fal'Cie.]
- Hope: That's the city's food-production fal'Cie. Name's Carbunkle. That's one of our enemies, being Sanctum and all.
- Lightning: Kill him, and cut off the food supply. That;ll make us popular.
- Hope: I think people have enough reason to hate us, don't you.
- Lightning: Yeah, you're proabably right. Hungry people make for angry people.
- [After going up a few floors.]
- Hope: Look at us: Pulse l'Cie, using a Sanctum fal'Cie to tell where we're going. Sort of strange.
- Lightning: Not really. We've relied on them our our lives. The food we eat, the light and water, it's all from the fal'Cie. You know, I think Cocoon was really built for them. The rest of us, we're just leeches. Parasites.
- Hope: You think? They protect us, nurture us. They take care of, well, normal people. They treat us like we're special, almost like...Like we're pets!
- Lightning: Like pets. To them, we are just pets. That's it. Now it makes sense. I've been so
blind. I was born into a Fal'Cie world, raised on a Fal'Cie leash. It was the only life I know how to live. When it was taken from me, I was completely lost. Without a master to follow - my life had no purpose. Hope, listen to me. This l'Cie curse, it took everything. My future. My dreams. I didn't want to think. So I fought instead. As long as I was fighting, nothing else was real I was running away. And you, Hope..You got swept along with me.
- Hope: But Lightning, I don't understand
- Lightning: Operation Nora is over.
- Hope: What?
- Lightning: I...
- Hope: No! You told me to fight!
- Lightning: I made a mistake!
- Hope: But--you can't do this. You can't just build something up like that, then abandon me.
- Lightning: I won't abandon you. I won't.
- [Later...]
- Hope: So what do we do now? We're l'cie, ticking timb bombs. Enemies of Cocoon. If we can't follow the plan, do we just lay down and die?
- Lightning: I didn't mean we give up.
- Hope: Then what battles do we fight? And against who? Tell me that!
- Lightning: I don't know yet.
- Hope: You don't know yet.
- Lightning: That's right. I don't know yet. But I do know we can't lose hope.
- Hope: Hope? There is no hope. Not for l'Cie.
- Lightning: There's you.
- Hope: It's my name, not who I am.
- Lightning: I was just like you. My parents died. I have to be strong for Serah, so I thought I needed to forget my past. And I became Lightning. I thought by changing my name, I could change who I was. I was just a kid. Lightning. It flashes bright, then fades away.It can't protect. It only destroys. Serah tried to tell me, but I wouldn't listen.I threatened her. The only one who believed her ws Snow.
- Hope: Don't say it! Don't say his name. It bring everything back. I keep playing it in my head, what happened to her. And then I see his stupid face and--and he's smiling. How can he smile when she's dead? I know! There nothing I can't do. I hate knowing that. No matter what happens, she's not coming back! When I was fighting, there was no time to think about it. It felt gods just to give in. But now you start talking about hope...
- [Lightning hugs Hope.]
- Hope: I'm sorry. I messed up.
- Lightning: No...It's my fault.
- [As they leave the complex.]
- Lightning: Talk to your dad.
- Hope: What? Why?
- Lightning: Fighting without hope is no live. It's just a way to die. I want you to find the hope you were named for. Staying alive, I can help you with. But I can't--I can't give you hope If you got see your father...
- Hope: You think meeting my dad will make anything better? He's never listened to a word I've said He's just--he'll never believe all this l'Cie stuff.
---
- [The military arrives as Lightning and Hope emerge in a stadium]
- Yaag Rosch: These are l'Cie. Show no mercy. They aren't people. They're targets.
- 'Lightning: Start running. I'll keep 'em busy.
- Hope: (turns to her, surprised) But--!
- Lightning: You survive.
- [Explosion. Snow arrives with Fang.]
- Fang: That's some crowd. Gonna need a plan.
- Snow: Since when have heroes ever needed plans?
- [summons Shiva sisters before tossing the gun to Fang.]
- Snow: Fang!
- [Snow combines the Sister Sisters with Fang riding as they handle the soldiers.]
- Hope: It's him!
- [Lighting fights her way out as Yaag falls back.]
- Yaag Rosch: Move! Take us up!
- [After the Director's retreat...]
- Snow: Lightning!
- [Lightning shoves Hope his way.]
- 'Lightning: Take care of him.
- Snow: Lightning, listen to me!
- 'Lightning: Get moving!
- Snow: You don't understand! Serah's all right! she'll turn back.
- 'Lightning: Take care of Hope
- Snow: Wait!
- Fang: And then there were three.
- [Fang runs off after Lightning as the Soldiers come to.]
- soldier A: They're here!
- soldier B: Hold it!
- Snow: Gotta go!
- [Snow puts Hope on Shiva]
- Snow: So how ya been? Hang on!
- [During the escape, Hope fall off of Shiva as Snow comes to his aid]
- Snow: Take cover! I got this on!
- [Fight]
- Snow: What's up?
- Hope: Where have you been?
- Snow: I got taken.
- Hope: Wait-what?
- Snow: Not by enemies. It was the Cavalry, not PSICOM. Leader's name is Raines. He said he'd lend us l'Cie a hand. So now, your hero is back!
- Hope: Why would the army help us? That doesn't make sense. Military got all kinds. Not all of em' like the Sanctum. Don't worry. I'll handle the bad guys. Come on.
- [Inside the stadium.]
- Snow: You changed, haven't you? Seems you toughened up.
- Hope: I'm a l'Cie. I had to.
- Snow: The only one that ought to be fighting the army are us dumb grown-ups.
- Hope: You think it's stupid
- Snow: If is if you get killed. Anyway, just lay low. Let's the dummies duke it out. The army's no match for NORA, right?
- Hope: (Though while taking out the knife) He was...he was smiling!
- [phone rings]
- Snow: It's me, what's up?
- Fang: You damn well know what's up! Why haven't you call in?
- Snow: Sorry, slipped my mind.
- Snow: Right...What your status
- Snow: Great, great. Hope's great too! Are you?
- Fang: I'm great, you're great, everybody's great. [gives Lightning the phone] Reunion time. Figure out a rendezvous point. Don't sweat it. That line's hyper-encrypted.
- Snow: Hey, Sis, is that you?
- Lightning: I'm not your sister.
- [Later...]
- Lightning: We'll meet at Hope's place. Felix Heights 35-A
- Snow: Right. See ya there. Tell Fang 'hey.'
- Lightning: Take care of Hope.
- Snow: All over it. And I'll tell you more about Serah when weer meet up. I found out she can turn back. There's stil hope.
- Lightning: Snow. Listen to me. It's about Hope. His mother was--
- Hope: Lighting, it's me. I decided--I have to--Operation--
- Lightning: Hope? Hope! Answer me!
- Hope: I'm sorry.
- Fang: Yelling doesn't fix it. It's called interference. You can chitchat when we get there I've got point, you fall in behind. And see if you can't cool off that head of yours.
- [Lightning notices Fang's mark.]
- Lightning: Who are you?
- Fang: Where do I start? I got a few screws loose. But I'm a I'Cie, same as you. Differenence being...I wasn't born on Cocoon. I'm from Grand Pulse. The 'world below' you all hate so much. My partner and I'd turned to crystal there and gone to sleep. But when we came around, here we were. The reason Cooccon in such an uproar is a the same reason you're here now. Vanille and I woke up. When we came out of crystal stasis, we didn't remember our Focus or what we'd done. All we could do was wander Cocoon, looking for what we'd lost. By the time I took care of 'em, Vanille was long gone. After that, Raines and his Cavalry found me. I never stopped searching for Vanille, but I couldn't find her. Her, or our Focus.
- Lightning: So, you're telling me Serah will come back to life someday, too?
- Fang: Yep. We didn't do our job right. That's why it made her a l'Cie. We messed up. Sorry.
- [Lightning slaps Fang across the face]
- Fang:That it?
- Lightning: You sure better hope so. But whetever we're square, that's up to Serah.
- Fang: You sound exactly like Snow. And he didn't hit me,
- Lightning: Wait, he already knows this?
- Fang: Wow. That's a load off. Glad I apologized!
- Lightning: You apologized so you'd feel better?
- Fang: Guess so. How about you? Feel any better now now that you hit me?
- Lightning: It didn't change anything.
- Fang: Tell that to my jaw.
- Lightning: Felix Heights is up there. Still a way before we get to Hope's place
- Fang:Better pick it up.
- Snow: Felix Heights is that way, right? Still pretty far. 'A great place for family living,' so the say. Looks like it might be, huh?
- Hope: Yeah well, l'Cie don't have family.
- Snow: Listen to me, kid. I'm a orphan--I barely knew my parents. But someday, I gonna have my own. Once I save Serah and Cocoon.
- Hope: How, exactly?
- Snow: That's a good question. I wanna do what's right. But everyone hates l'Cie. Kind of hard help one's that trying to kill you. It'll touch. But everything will work out in the end, as long as we stick together and have hope--
- Hope: We don't have any!
- [PSICOM finds them]
- Hope: A l'Cie's only hope is a quick death!
- Lightning: Hey, Fang. The others are safe, right? If any of us caught, they'd make an announcement.
- Fang:Yeah they would. They'd have to let everyone know that the the big, bad l'Cie can't hurt 'em no more. These Cocoon people—bunch of cowards and blowhards.
- Lightning: 'These Cocoon people' have spent centuries under fal'Cie, in constant fear of a Pulse invasion. If it weren't for Serah, I'd have been out there too. Hunting l'Cie. Would have been nothing but targets to me.
- Fang: Well, Gran Pulse is just as twisted. 'Cocoon's a nest of vipers, ready to strike,' or so I thought.
- Lightning: So you became a l'Cie to fight the 'vipers.' And destroying the nest is your—I mean our Focus now
- Fang: Until we woke up here, we'd been in crystal stasis. Which means, we must've complete our first Focus. Why can't I remember that part? My childhood's clear as day. But the one thing I need—it's just gone. Blank. Like an empty page. I reach for the memory, and nothing. Then there my brand, it's all messed up. Vanille and me, we lost our past and our focus
- Lightning: And now, you want to find them. Be a Pulse l'Cie. An enemy of Cocoon?
- Fang: Pulse and Cocoon can rot for all I care! If I don't figure out our Focus soon. Vanille's gonna be a Cie'th. I'll tear down the sky if it'll save her.
- [Later...]
- Fang: Hey, Lightning
- Lightning: Call me Light.
- Fang: Did you see Vanille's brand?
- Lightning: No.
- Fang: No, huh? Want to know how long until it's Cie'th city? Just looks at your brand, You start getting more arrows, and then finally an eye. Once it opens all the way, you're done. (Moves towards Lightning) Let's have a look. Don't be shy.
- [After inspecting Lightning's mark.]
- Fang: Nowhere near. You got time. Still, you never know. Some people, doesn't take so long You get a nasty shock, it can speed up the process. Vanille's brand must be pretty far along by now. I've got to save her and get home.
- Lightning: To Pulse
- Fang: To Gran Pulse. I hear that the Sanctum prevents people from leaving Cocoon. I'd like to see 'em try
- Lightning: So, that's your plan. I wish had one. Without Serah, without a future, that's nothing to plan for. There's no way out of this mess, and no way to fight it. I'm stuck trading blows with the Sanctum, but that's no plan. Even if we topple the government, where's that leave us? With nothing to fight for? I might as well be dead
- Fang: You sister. You've got plenty to fight for. Think about it. Don't you want to see Serah, after she wakes up? That's your future right there. All you've gotta to is surivive. It's simple!
- Lightning: Right.
- [They see a PSICOM platoon making its way to Snow's location.]
- Hope: I wanted to ask you something.
- Snow: What's that?
- Hope: You say you want a family. What if, what if they were taken from you?
- Snow: Well then, I'd take them back
- Hope: And what if you couldn't? What if you who was to blame
- Snow: Well, then there'd be trouble. Hey, are you okay? Did you get hit in the head, or something, or—?
- [Ushumgal Subjugator appears]
- Snow: Guess we'll have talk about this later.
- Hope: Don't just stand there!
- Snow: Hope, wait!
- [Fight, the Ushumgal is driven off]
- Snow: Aw, yeah!
- [Sees Hope tired.]
- Snow: If you need to take a break, why don't we do it over there?
- [Gets Hope a drink.]
- Snow: Here.
- Hope: I'm not thristy.
- Snow: Okay...Well, don't want to waste it.
- [Snow drinks the soda as Hope's memories haunt him.]
- Hope:I can't—Snow? What do you plan to do? I need to know
- Snow: I told you. Save Serah, protect Cocoon, and have myself a big, happy family. Still, it's a long road ahead. Or, maybe not so long Whatever happens, things will work out. Even if you're l'Cie, you've got to keep fighting
- Hope: And what if that gets people around you involved? What happens when your actions end up ruining someone's life. What if someone dies? What then, Snow? How do you pay for what you've done?
- Snow: I can't, all right? There is nothing that can make something like that right again. When someone dead, when someone's gone, words are useless
- Hope: So that's it? People die and you just run away?
- Snow: I know! It's all my fault! But I don't know how to fix it! Where do you start? What do you say? All I can do is go forward. Keep fighting and surviving, until I find the answers I need.
- Hope: There are no answers! You're running from what you deserve!
- Snow: Why don't you tell me what I deserve!?
- Hope: The same fate!
- [Hope unleashed his powers, causing Snow to fall of the building.]
- Hope: Nora Estheim. She was my mother. And she died because of you!
- Snow: It's you...you're the one she meant.
- [attack]
- Snow: Hope!
- [Covers Hope, taking the blunt of the fall.]
- Snow: Hope. Hey, Hope!
- [Picks him up and carries him to safety regardless of his wound, picking up Serah's dagger. Later, after getting him to higher ground, Hope comes to.]
- Snow: Hey.
- Hope: Why'd you save me?
- Snow: I was asked to keep you safe. By Lightning. And by Nora. I'm sorry. What happened--it was my fault. I put her in danger. I know that. Let me make it right.
- Hope: You told me before that you couldn't.
- Snow: And that words were useless, and a lot of other things I shouldn't have said.Look, I didn't know what to do, didn't know how to set things straight. So I didn't I thought if I couldn't make up for it, then all the apologies in the world wouldn't mean a thing. So I decided I had to find a way to pay for it first, before I'd even have the right to say sorry. But, it's like you said. I was using that as a excuse, so I could run from my own guilt. That hit home. Look, Hope. I know I did was my fault. I don't deny it, and I am sorry. Here. That's Light's, isn't it?
- Hope: I..Why'd you--?
- Snow: That knife was a present from Serah. To keep her safe. She trusted you with something that important? You dould be the one to carry it. I'll find a way to make things better. Just give me time. If nothing I do is good enough, then I'll take any punishment you want to dish out..
- Hope: She's gone, Snow. You can take the blame..buit it won't bring her back.
- Snow: I'm sorry.
- Hope: I knew all along. I knew it but-- I had to blame someone. I had to. I needed a reason to keep on fighting
- Snow: It's wasn't someone fault. It was mine. Take it out on me. And keep yourself alive until you do.
- [Collapses]
- Snow: I have to keep going.
- [She Hope about to walk on his own.]
- Snow: Look at that. You don't need any help. You're all right. That's good to see. Just let me catch my breath
- [The Ushumgal returns.]
- Snow: Hope! Get back! I got this one
[The monster knocks Snow back.]
- Hope: Snow! Always the hero. You want to die? You can't. I won't let you!
- [Boss fight]
- Fang: Not bad, kid!
- Lightning: Where's Snow?
- Hope: He okay!
- Fang: Sure you up for this?
- Lightning: Thing will never know what hit it.
- [After fight, Hope gives Lightning back her knife.]
- Hope: Uh..Operation Nora didn't work out.
- [Lightning hugs Hope in relief]
- Lightning: You'll be okay .I'll keep you safe.
- Hope: Lightning I--me to. I mean, at least I'll try. I'll try to watch out for you too.
- Fang: Don't forget about this one
- Lightning: That one will be all right. He's too stubborn to die.
- [Lightning picks Snow up and carries him to Hope's house.]
- Vanille (Narrator): Knowing you'll always be welcomed, no matter how much has changed...That's what having a home is all about
---
- [Hope rings the doorbell and his father emerges.]
- Bartolomew: Hope!
- Hope: Mom's gone.
- [Inside Hope's house.]
- Bartolomew: (sobbing) Nora...
- Hope: Dad...I, um...I know. I'll be in my room. We're gonna rest up, then we'll leave. If they find out you're sheltering l'Cie, they'll-
- Bartolomew: (pounds his fist on a table) You're my son! This is your home...
- [As Hope and his father finally reconcile, Fang watches from a distence with a smile on her face. Meawhile, Lightning looks over Snow's injuries.]
- Lightning: Lay down
- Snow: All right. Huh. I see you took the kid's toy away
- Lightning: He gave it back to me. Said he didn't need it anymore
- Snow: Go figure.
- Lightning: It was too much. What happened to Serah. All I could think about was, 'What could I have done?. I hated myself for not trusting her. It hurt too much. I couldn't face it. Look, Snow. I...I'm sorry. Forgive me.
- Snow: For what?
- Lightning: Everything.
- Snow: If you told me your real name, I suppose I could
- Lightning: Have Serah tell you--when she comes back.
- Snow: Deal.
--
- [PSICOM storm the entrance.]
- Snow: My turn. Don't shoot! I'll show you what a l'Cie looks like! Me! I'm a l'Cie! Surprised? Expected some kind of monster? I'm flesh and blood like you! An ordinary citizen of Cocoon! Don't you get it!? This has been our home our whole lives. How could we even think about destroying it? We want to protect this place just as much as you!
- [The Soldiers question this as Yaag steps off]
- Yaag Rosch: You must be Snow Villiers. Yaag Rosch, PSICOM Division. I understand your plight. However, the Pulse threat is not so easily dismissed. The very existence of you l'Cie puts every last one of us in danger. Tell me, do you really think your life is worth more than the lives of millions of Coccon citizens? I don not. And so it fall to me to order your execution. It's that simple. It is my responsiblity to see you put down. Your lives are forfit.
- Snow: Aw, cut the crap! You want l'Cie, the kill l'Cie Why do other people have to die? The Purge has got to stop!
- Yaag Rosch: Do you think we want to Purge our own people? If any trace of Pulse remains, the populance will erupt into chaos. Without sacrifice. without the Purge, Cocoon will die!
[The Cavalry makes it move as Lightning and company tie up Bathomy so he would be spared retaliation. After taking out a Havoc Skytank, another appears.]
- Fang: Again? There's no end to these guys!
- [The Skytank is taken down by another as it lands and a group of soldiers emerge. One of taking off his helmet.]
Rygea:Heya Fang. Need a ride? Fang: Don't get cute. Right, let's move it.
- [Everyone boards with Hope last.]
Hope: Take care Dad.
- Vanille (Narrator): When it comes to family or home, we never keep either as close as we should. Who ever stops to think that this time could be their last?
[edit] Chapter 8
- Sazh: Seasick?
- Vanille: Nope. I'm fine
- Sazh: Okay then.
- [After venturing into the city.]
- Sazh: Not alot of security here. For these people, the l'Cie panic must still seem like a world away. Oh, hey. Looks like they're putting Eidolons on Parade. It's starting soon. What do you say? Let's check it out?
- Vanille:Sure.
- [A new report soon comes up on the public screen.]
- Reporter: We interupt this prrogram to bring you a breaking news update. The l'Cie who surfaced in Palumpolum and attacked the city's citizens...are still on the run from authories. Sanctum soldier are tracking their location but have yet to engage the fugtives. The presence of hostages has been confirmed
- [Vanille sees Fang on the news broadcast]
- Sazh: What's wrong?
- Vanille: It's her!
- Sazh: Yep. Looks like the army finally found em'
- guy: Hostages? They should blow'em away with the l'Cie
- girl: They'll infected by Pulse or something by now anyway.
- Sazh: The parade's about to start. Come on, let's go.
- [On they're way in]
- Sazh: Hey, loosen up! Gotta make the most of this! Right?
- Vanille (Narrator): I knew we'd be saying good-bye soon. Better to do it with a smile. The Pompa Sancta parade-a pageant commemorating the war between Cocoon and Pulse.
- Sazh: The show is starting Look.
- [Discs fall, one in Vanille's hands as it unfolds into a Carbunkle.]
- Carbunkle: It's party time, little lady.
[Siren and group, respresenting Cocoon, dancing until Ifrit and his group emerge, playing Pulse.]
- Ifrit: With Pulse-born spite and savage might, I will destroy Cocoon!
- Sazh: Here come the attack from Pulse.
["Pulse forces" are winning until Ramuh, representing the Sanctum, appears]
- Ramuh: With trusty blade and fal'Cie's aid, I will defend Cocoon. To battle!
- Ifrit: You dare oppose me? I will fulfill my Focus!
- [Ifrit morphs into "Ragnarok"]
Vanille: Ragnarok!
- Ramuh: Fal'Cie grant me strength!
[Ramuh becomes Valefor and defeats "Ragnarok"]
- Sazh: Oh man.
- Vanille (Narrator): Sometimes I had to wonder. Could our deaths have brought that peace?
- [After the show.]
- Sazh: Where to next, little lady?
- Vanille: I'll let you decide.
- Sazh :I know! A Nautilus Park date--with Sazh.
- Vanille: Yeah, but should we really be playing around
- Sazh:Forget about that heavy stuff for a while, and maybe this will fade away?
- Vanille: Okay.
Sazh: Great! Let's roll.
- [On their way there...]
- Vanille: What's in Nautilus Park anyway?
- Sazh: It's a huge amusement park built by the Sanctum. Bet they never expected l'Cie visitors
- Vanille: So, is this place special?
- Sazh: I promised Dajh. I was gonna bring him some day. Hope I can at least tell him about it.
- Vanille: You'll get the chance.
- Sazh: Maybe. I do know where they're keeping him
- Vanille: Can I come with you?
- Sazh: Sure, more the merrier. What about you? You got someone out there?
- Vanille: Special? Nope.
- Sazh: Really? Now that kind of sad.
- Vanille: Yeah.
- 'Sazh: Hey, I'm kidding! I didn't mean to upset you.
- Vanille: Well, I'm just fine, thank you.
- [At the entrance.]
- Vanille: Ohh....
- Sazh: Somebody's excited.
- Vanille: Yeah. Hey, you could make new friends
- Sazh: Dajh's just crazy about Chocobos. He really wanted to come here.
- Vanille: Let's look around.
- Sazh: Indeed, and in we go.
- [At the park entrance.]
- Vanille: Ohh....
- Sazh: Somebody's excited!
- Vanille: Yeah. Hey, you could make new friends.
- Sazh: Dajh's just crazy about chocobos. He really wanted to come here.
- Vanille: Let's look around!
- Sazh: Indeed. And in we go!
- [Arriving to the petting zoo area.]
- Sazh: Dahhh. Ooohh..The smell. Oohh. Glad I don't work here.
- Vanille (Narrator): The smell reminded me of home. The wildness of Pulse.
- Sazh: Hey, come back here!
- [After a while of finding the Chocobo chick, they find him.]
- Vanille: Part of the gang already.
- Sazh: Always good to be among friends.
- Vanille: The fun times are doubled, and you worries feel far away.
- Sazh: And nothing ever seems as scary when you have some to share it with.
- Vanille: Yep.
- [The baby Chocobo returns to Sazh]
- Vanille: You're still number one. Of course.
- Sazh: Of course! Thanks, Vanille. Now when I see Dajh, I can tell him about the Chocobos. He's being held by the military.
- Vanille: PSICOM, you mean?
- Sazh: Yeah, since he's a Cocoon l'Cie. They're running tests. They're trying to figure out his Focus. I'm...turning myself in. I know they execute l'Cie, but--hey. They're not total monsters. They'll listen to a final request, they'll have too. Before the end, I want to talk to Dajh one last time. I want to tell him about these chocobos. I want to tell of everything I've seen.
- Vanille: But, wait, Sazh
- Sazh: Listen, I don't want you to worrry. You're not part of this. You'll have plently of time to run before I surrender
- Vanille: That's not what I meant!
- Sazh: I'm sorry Vanille. I'm...I'm just tired of all this running.
- Vanille: But--you can't! What about Dajh? He's a l'Cie because of someone from Pulse!.You can't give up without getting revenge! I know who it is. I know who's responible. For the accident. The accident at Euride.
- Sazh: Then tell me!
- Vanille: The l'Cie who ruined your life was--
- [PSICOM soldiers arrive.]
- Sazh: Soldiers?. Where'd they come from. Get out of here, Vanille!
---
- [After fight with Midlight Reaper]
- Sazh: Huh?
- [Dajh runs in.]
- Dajh: Daddy, I found you! Daddy! Got you!
- Sazh: Dajh, why are you here?
- Dajh: Because you promised!
- Sazh: But...how did you get here?
- [Dajh crystalized to Sazh's horror.]
- Sazh: Dajh! Wait! Come back!
- [Jihl arrives]
- Sazh: Dajh...Not you...Not you, Dajh!
- Jihl: The capture of undesirables. It seems that was your son's Focus. Dajh fullfill it admirably, and served Coccon in the process. You should be proud of him, Mr. Katzroy.
- [Vanille]
- Jihl: Dajh was a great help. He could sense power of Pulse origin. That let us monitor you. Words can't express our gratitude The data he proved on enemy l'Cie --And speaking of gratitude...
- [Tosses a disc to plays the events at the plant]
- Jihl: We enhanced the survellience footage from the energy plant. Those are the Pulse l'Cie behind what happened. The picture's a little grainy, but I'm sure you recognized that. You've spent so much too together.
- Sazh: Vanille...
- Jihl: Yes. That young lady's terrorist assault at the Euride Gorge is the reason Dajh was made a l'Cie. Ironic, isn't it? The very girl you're protecting...is the one who stole your son.
- [Vanille runs crying.]
- Jihl: Hold. Shall we finish the job? Or would you prefer to?
- [Sazh runs after Vanille]
- Soldier: Colonel Nabaat? What now?
- Jihl: Follow them, and observe. How often do l'Cie kill their own.
---
- Sazh: Vanille.
- Vanille: My name is Oerba Dia Vanille. I'm a l'Cie from Gran Pulse. And to everyone on Cocoon...Evil. Shoot me! For your son!
- Sazh:(pointing a gun at her) Don't you even! You think you die and that's that? You think die and everything'll be sugar and rainbows?
- Vanille: (pleading) Then what can I do? What do you want from me? If I can't live or die, what do you want me to do?
- Sazh: Don't ask me! You figure it out.
- Vanille: I don't know!
- Sazh: (Lowers his gun) Neither do I. It's over. There's nothing to do. Shooting you won't help. Neither will living.
- (Eidolon Bryhilde emerges and Sazh provokes her into attacking him. But Vanille stands between them until Sazh guns it down.]
- Sazh: Okay, fine. You want me? Come and get me!
- [fight]
- Sazh:(pointing a gun at Vanille) Lot of things can be excused. Shooting kids ain't one. (re-aims the gun to his much to the horror of Vanille and Chocobo.) Enough...is enough
- [Lucky, he doesn't go through with it.]
- Sazh: Why can't I do it? I got no reason to keep living. I can't even kill you.
- Vanille: Sazh....
- [The two are captured]
- Jihl: You should be proud. Your son's a hero. The boy who saved Cocoon. We'll erect a memorial in Eden and put his crystal on display.
- Sazh : A memorial?! He's a little boy!
- Jihl: As the son of a Pulse l'Cie, he would have lived in shame and misery. Isn't it better he be treated with reverence as a monument to sacrifice?
[Sazh screams in rage before Jihl knocks him out.]
- Jihl: The next time your eyes open, it'll be your last.
- [ Later, Sanctum takes Vanille captive and walking by a containing holding Sazh's unconscious body with them to Palamecia. Jihl oversees transporation.]
- Jihl: Do be careful with those. For every task, there's a perfect tool.
---
- Vanille (Narrator): All of Cocoon was against us. With us dead, everyone was sure that things would go back--back to the way it was before.
[edit] Chapter 9
- [as the Lindblum, enters Palamecia airspace, Lightning's group learn of Sazh and Vanille's capture.]
- Snow: So what's with the freak show?
- Cid: So the Primarch can stand in judgement of the villianous l'Cie...with their execution as the climax. The people will cheer their demise, and fal'Cie dominion will be undisputed.
- Lightning: All part of the plan.
- Cid: Yes, but it also presents an opportunity.
- reporter: In a display of unwavering dedication to duty...The Primarch has boarded the Palamecia..and focused his person attention on resolving the Pulse crisis.
- Fang: They're baiting us. Trying to draw us in.
- Snow: Bait, huh?
- Lightning: Yeah, that's right: 'Here are your friends. Come and get 'em.'
- Snow: Well, if the'yre darings us to mount a rescue...I'll take that action. All in.
- [After getting ready.]
- Rydgea: This baby back here's a PSICOM vessel. It'll deliver you to the Palamecia.
- Snow: Oh, we're cargo now?
- Rydgea A parting gift to our rotting government. Take those PSICOM guys apart
- Lightning: And we're supposed to take on all of them? I think the whole division's on board
- Fang: I don't care how many lackeys they've got. Bring 'em on! Vanille's in there.
- Hope: I'm sure she's fine. Vanille's tougher than I could even be
- Lightning: Hope, are you scared?
- Hope: Yeah, I'm terrified. Bit I'll be okay. Becuae I have you, and this guy, and Fang. We're all in this mess,. We've got to stick together.
- Rydgea: Right, enough with the bonding. It's go time.
- Snow: What do mean, 'this guy?'
---
- Jihl: We didn't expect to see you here in person, Your Eminence.
- Galenth: This crisis threatens the entirety Cocoon, my child. You agree that standing at the fore is a leader's charge.
- Jihl: Wholeheartedly
- Galenth: It also affords a spenldid view of the impeding execution.
---
- [In the Palamecia's brig]
- Vanille:Sazh?
- Sazh : I'm pathetic.
- Vanille: That's my line. I'm the one who lied to everyone.
- Sazh : Forget it. You can't change what's done.
- Vanille: But, if I'd just told the truth--!
- Sazh :Now, now, now, I've been thinking. You woke up from being a crystal once. That means Dajh will woke up one day too, right? What was it like? I mean, how did it happen? You were done with your Focus, right?
- Vanille: I was chosen. I was made into a l'Cie to fight against Cocoon. It happened back on Gran Pulse, hundreds of years ago. We finished our Focus, and we fall into a long crystal sleep. We woke up...on Cocoon, to the start of a new Focus. Fang, sh'e forgettoen everything. And for me--Just the thought of hurting people...It was too much. So I lied. I played dumb, said i'd lost my memory. I wanted to escape my fate as a l'Cie. And ever since them, I've been running away from it.
- Intercom: Attention all crew: Code green. Repeat: Code Green!
- Guard 1: Get up! You're being moved
- Guard 2: On your feet, scum!
- Guard 1: You too!
- Sazh: Get him.
[With his Chocobo catching them off guard, Sazh knocks the guards out while Van guns a Vespid Soldier down.]
- Sazh: All right, time to split. Not run. There's a difference
- Vanille: Gotcha.
- Sazh: Let's go.
---
- [At the bridge.]
- staff 1: Colonel! We lost the intruders!
- Jihl:That means...we're Code Yellow. No, wait, Code Blue? If we were Orange, that would mean---
- staff 2: The escapees made it through! They're entering the engine room!
- Jihl:No! Damn l'Cie
- staff 3: Intruders located! They're on the weather deck, starboard side!
- Jihl: (Throwing her glasses to the ground.) Make it rain!
- Galenth:Desperate times demand flexiability. Code white.
---
- Hope: The wind--it's dying down.
- Lightning: Yeah, it's stopping. And we're decelerating. They up to something?
- Snow: I don't suppose it could just be--I don't know--good luck?
- [Vespid Soldiers appear.]
- Fang: That looks alot more like bad lick
- Snow: You've got a point.
- Lightning: Not to me. That? They we can do something about.
- [They get ambushed by a Kalavinka Striker.]
- Fang: So, Light...How you figure this makes us lucky?
- Lightning: Because when we kill, we're a step closer to Vanille How's that?
- Fang: Well, when you put that way!
[After Kalavinka Striker is defeated, another appears.]
- Hope: Another one!
- Snow: One big, fat strike of luck after another. I'm so happy I could cry.
- Fang: Tease us, will ya?
- Snow: Come down here!
- [Vanille and Sazh appear]
- Fang: Vanille!
- Vanille: Fang!
- Snow: There you are.
- Sazh: Miss me?
- Snow: Not you, the monster.
- [After a fight with the second Kalavinka Striker...]
- Fang: Vanille!
- Vanille: Fang!
- [Fang checks Vanille's l'Cie mark.]
- Fang: You've still got time.
- Vanille: Fang...There's-there's something I need to tell you.
- Fang: Making me worry like that...We'll talk later, Missy.
- Snow: What's wrong?
- Sazh: Oh, uh..nothing! It's nothing. Uh-so? What's on the agenda?
- Snow: Toppling the Sanctum.
- Sazh: No, I mean really.
- Lightning: He's serious, We're gonna take down the the Sanctum and give Cocoon back to the people. The fal'Cie have called the shots for long enough.
- Hope: If we pull this off, it will be a miracle.
- Fang: Well, good thing Lady Luck's on our side.
- Snow: More of 'em?
- Sazh: You know this is really getting old.
- Fang: Check this out. A miracle - Gran Pulse style. Vanille, go fish!
- Vanille: Got it.
- [Vanille uses her Binding Rod to snare a Garuda while Fang tames it.]
- Fang: That's a good girl! All right.
- Vanille: Let's get on!
- [The party get on the beast as Minerva watches.]
- Fang: Believe in Lady Luck now?
- Sazh: Yeah--Lady Bad Luck!
- Snow: Time to Purge a Primarch!
- Lightning: You got it!
- [They manage to enter the part of the Palamecia where the bridge is.]
---
- Sazh: Been looking for you, Nabaat!
- [Jihl stand in the group's way]
- Jihl: Your Eminence, please escape. I'll cover your retreat.
- Galenth: Why don't you leave, Jihl. Or rather, take your leave. Humans have no business here.
- Jihl: What? Your Eminence!
- [He zaps her dead]
- Sazh: Magic?
- [Galenth kills the rest of his men to Snow's horror.]
- Snow: Monster! People are not yours to use!
- Galenth: What else does one do with tools?
- [Snow charges, only to knocked down by a barrier]
- Galenth: Cocoon is a factory, built by fal'Cie. A factory for the mass production of human thralls.
- Snow: Not anymore, it's not!
- Galenth: What can mere men do? Without our help, death is all of which you're capable. You saw the fools. A mindless mob drunk on fear of a few l'Cie.
- Lightning: If they only knew a l'Cie was filling their glasses...!
- Galenth: L'Cie? You mean me? Oh, child, perish the thought. I am more that that!
- [Calling Minerva to him, Galenth assumes his true form)]
- Barthandelus: I am fal'Cie. My name is Barthandelus. Voice of the Sanctum and Lord-Soverign of the Cocoon fal'Cie. Your kind feared the darkness, so we gave you light. You begged us for the Purge, and did it not come to pass? Now your spurn our counsel? You must learn your place!
- [fight. Soon after, Barthandelus dissolves]
- Snow: A fal'Cie running the Sanctum....
- Hope: Then, I guess it wasn't Eden controlling things after all.
- [Galenth appears]
- Galenth: As I said. I am Lord-Sovreign.
- 'Sazh: Guess fal'Cie don't go now down as easy as the rest of us.
- Galenth: Ease is not the issue. You have not fought to win. You should know quite well already the sure way of dispatching our kind. Ragnarok.
- Fang: What's Ragnarok?
- [Her mark reacts.]
- Galenth: Pitiful l'Cie, you've forgotten your Focus. Ragnarok is the beast one of you must become in order to lay waste to Cocoon. You have had the dream. One among you will become that monstrosity, defeat Orphan, and destory Cocoon.
- Fang: Orphan?
- Galenth: The font of Eden' power. Orphan fuels Eden with strength, and Eden in turns sustains you and the rest of our kind. Destroy
Orphan, and you'll release a force such as this world has never seen. Cocoon will be torn asunder.
- Fang: So if I did that...Destroyed Orphan...
- [teleports in front of Fang up to her face.]
- Galenth: Your Focus will be fulfilled
- [teleports away as Lightning attempts to strike him down.]
- Lightning: So what? Who says it has to be?
- Snow: Serah asked us to save Cocoon before she turned to crystal. Save it. And that what we're gonna do! Serah was trying to tell us how to complete our Focus, and we have--
- Galenth: Allow me to help you see the truth of things. The moment you arrived, your friend wept crystal tears. That's because her Focus required that you be brought together. That girl did nothing but assemble the tools for Cocoon's destruction.
- [Snow is horrfied to hear that.]
- Galenth: Did it never occur to you? Or did you simply refuse to countermeasure the thought? If you will not face the truth, then face the peril of your plight.
- [the Palmecia starts shaking as Minerva morphs into an airship.]
- Galenth: Run, li'Cie. See how stark really is!
- [Galenth fades as Lightning's group enters Minerva, before being pursued by Yaag in the Proud Clad.]
[edit] Chapter 10
- Lightning: Were are we?
- Vanille: Looks like a piece of Pulse
- Sazh: Pulse? What, you mean like the Bodhum Vestige? Something like that, this close to Eden.
- Fang: Yeah, well, what I don't understand, is after the Purge, and all that l'Cie paranoia...why keep a chuck of Pulse under the floorboards.
- Hope: Is this what the Primarch wanted us to see?
- Lightning: A place for l'Cie to accept their fate.
- Hope: Do you relly think our Focus is what Dylsey said it is?
- Vanille: You mean become Ragnarok.
- Sazh: Destroy the fal'Cie Eden, and shatter Cocoon. That's what the vision is telling us more or less. So, we're back to square one. Out of luck.
- Vanille: Mr. Hero! Cocoon calling Snow!
- Hope: It's almost like Dylsey want it to come true.
- Sazh: Seems that way. He sure didn't mind explaining it. 'Here's you Focus on a silver platter.'
- Vanille: But that doesn't make sense. I don't get it. Why would a Cococcon fal'Cie want to destroy Cocoon?
- Hope: Maybe it's a fal'Cie thing You know what I mean? Some grand design we just don't understand.
- Fang: Hey, Snow! Nothing from you?
- Sazh: So, this way?
---
- Snow: Hey, uh, I've got to apologize. It looks like I was wrong.
- Lightning: About Serah's Focus? Not like you to second-guess youself
- Snow: Well, even heroes make mistakes.
- Lightning: What about your plan to save Cocoon? Either way, your faith in Serah was strong. That strength got you this far.
- Snow: It was all wrong.
- Lightning: Yeah. You tried so hard to convince us that you even fooled yourself. You've been a total idiot. But still...It saved me. You trusted Serah. Let that faith drive you. It even made me want to believe.
- Snow: (to his crystal) Serah...Talk to be baby.
---
- Hope: I can't believe we're still in Cocoon.
- Sazh: It's kind of creepy.
- [Activate a l'Cie-sensor trap, activating Pulsework Knights that attack them.]
- Vanille: This place--it must be an Ark.
- Lightning: An Ark?
- Fang: That what they called 'em. Long ago, the fal'Cie who made their home on Gran Pulse were afriad of invasion from the outside. As part of their battle preparations, they created an army living weapons. And they stored those weapons in Arks, and they hide the Arks all over the world. Everyone on Gran Pulse knew the legend.
- Lightning: So this is basically a Pulse armor
- Fang: Most of us never believed in 'em. A few people tried searching but never found a thing. Who'd have thought to look on Cocoon?
- Sazh: Right under our noses. That's some sercret they kept. Those Sancuim guys, what are they up to?
- Vanille: The story's not done. There's more.
- Fang: They used to say the Arks have a more practical purpose
- Sazh: Huh. Really.
- Fang: Yeah, to force l'Cie to master their shiny new powers.
- Lightning: Okay, so, I get it. Dysleys's goal is to forge us into stronger weapons. Right.
- Sazh: Not Cie'th, but monsters all the same.
- Hope: Think of it as training for the fight ahead.
- Vanille: Hope's right!
- Sazh: Wait. What was that?
- [Opens to reveal more Pulsework Knights.]
- Sazh: Aw, these guys again?
- Lightning: Fun times.
- Hope: Over there! We've got to keep moving.
---
- Snow: Raines…? Easy, guys, it's all right. Raines is a Sanctum officer. He's been helping us out--
- Fang: Why are you here?
- Lightning: Raines! You tratior!
- [She attacks, but is defeated, her gunblade caught held by Raines.]
- Cid: I put you on the path. That was my focus.
- Fang: You’re a l’Cie!?
- Cid: Since long before we met. I did my best to assist you as bid by the Sanctum fal'Cie. Now do you understand? The fal'Cie haved watched over you, guiding your every step. The 'luck' that saved you time and again was a deliberate machination. Why, you may ask? The Primarch--or should I say Barthadeulus--is crafting you into the instruments of Cocoon's demise.
- Fang: We've been played for fools.
- Sazh: A Cocoon fal'Cie? Why?
- Cid: Why? To restore the Maker.
- Hope: ‘Maker?
- Cid: The entity responsible for creating both humans and fal’Cie. Long ago, the Maker departed the world, leaving the two races behind. In a sense, human and fal'Cie are brothers--orphaned by th same parent. As for the humans, they forgot the order imposed by the Marker. They began to war among themselves for the first time in history. The fal'Cie focused on recalling their lost deity, and returning the world to its former glory. This purpse lies in the heart of all their actions. Calling back the Maker requires a fitting sacrifice.
- Lightning: Yeah, we've heard. The destruction of Cocoon.
- Cid: The lives of this world's entire poplance in bloody tribute. [throws Lightning's gunblade back to her]
- Sazh: No...that's crazy talk.
- Hope: I don't get it. Why do they need us? Couldn't the fal'Cie end Cocooon with just a thought?
- Cid: Their existence is bound to the creation and maintance of this floating shell. It is their very nature that holds them in check.
- Hope: You mean...Cocoon fal'Cie can't destroy Cocoon? They needed tools.
- Vanille: If we can stop this by doing nothing. We'll do nothing
- Cid: Noble. I expected as much
- Snow: You lied to us. What happened to your dream of rebuilding Cocoon for the people? What it all a lie?
- Cid: A shadow of a dream from when I was human. It was change I craved, and once I'd built the influence to make things happen, there was change. I gained all the power I could hope for, but was a puppet with no will to wield it. It wasn't the fal'cie that changed, i t was me.
- Vanille: You...you were made a l'Cie
- Cid: A l'Cie tied to an inescapable Focus--a slave of destiny. I'd lost hope. I'd all but given up dreams of freedom.
- Sazh: What are you saying?
- Cid: I'm here of my own accord. not by fal'Cie. Seeing you fight brough it all back. Brought back that future I once strove for.I, too, will challenge my fate.
- [Creates a barrier]
- Cid: If I can defeat you here, the fal'Cie plan will fail.
- Fang: Raines!
- Cid:[Assumes fighting form] I will use my my remaining power. I will set you free!
- [Fight]
- Lightning: Raines….
- Cid: Ironic, isn't it? The only thing I wanted was a moment of triumph. How it ends isn't important. Just do what you know is right. Trust yourselves.
- [crystalizes.]
- Sazh: What? Did he complete his focus?
- Snow: I don't think so. All Raines did was try to save Cocoon in his way. His own way!
- [Snow storms off as Cid is teleported,]
- Vanille(Narrator): I think Raines was searching--searching for a way to make us understand. To understand the frustration of being a l'Cie---a l'Cie bound to a Focus. And maybe...what it meant to be human.
---
- Hope: Looks like it's a dead end.
- Sazh: How about down there?
- Vanille: If the stories are right, it's a maze.
- Fang: This place is a boot camp for l'Cie. All kinds of challenges from Gran Pulse are waiting.
- Sazh: Challenges, huh? To get us all ready to go wipe out Cocoon.
- Fang: We can wait here if turning Cie'th sounds better.
- Sazh: I have enough of this! Where's the way out!?
- Snow: Way out? Who said there was one? Bring it on. My mind is made up.Maybe I will end up a Cie'th. But until rake happens, I'm gonna make Serah proud. I couldn't bring myself to admit that this tear meant good-bye. And that's why I kept searching for her. But I didn't need to. Serah was here the whole time. Right here, watching over me, Now I get it. What this tear's been telling me is to not let our Focus win. It's not the fal'Cie we should listen to. It's Serah, and Raines. Do you know why? Because our Focus doesn't matter! What matter to me is that we protect Cocoon, whatever it takes!
- Vanille: Same here. I'll help you do it.
- Hope: All right. I'm in.
- [Sazh and Lightning also join in.]
- Fang: Well, count me out. If you all want to go it on your own...Then so will I!
- [She assumes a fightin stance,]
- Fang: Let Cocoon gets what's coming. They hate us for being l'Cie. What's it to me if they die? Better that than watch a friend go Cie'th! If you don't have the nerve for it, I'll do it myself. Go on alone, get stronger, and smash Cocoon out of the sky!
- Vanille: Fang?
- Fang: (as her mark reacts) You turn Cie'th, and there's no coming back! I'm not...letting it end that way.
- [Bahamut emerges]
- Fang: What's he doing here? Come to take pity on me? Come to take care of a broken l'Cie?
- Snow: That thing's here to help us?
- Fang: Yeah, 'help.' That's what Eidolons do, they help us. Eidolons are our salvation. If we can't decide what to do next, they come put us out of our misery!
- Sazh: Wait, so you haven't made up your mind yet?
- [Bahamut attacks, but the party deflects the blow meant for Fang.]
- Fang: Why are you protecting me? What are you doing?
- Lightning: Protecting one of our own. We can do without their brand of mercy. And we don't need a fal'Cie's orders, either. I'm fighting this Focus to the end. We all are. So please...Fight with us.
- [Fang joins the fight.]
- Fang: Ready when you are!
- [Fight]
- Vanille: Look! A new path. Maybe that thing did save us.
- Snow: I don't suppose you'd be willing to call it a sign of me being right? No? Okay...Listen. Keep our eyes on the goal and we've figure something out. All right!
- Vanille(Narrator): Hey, Serah...So I guess a l'Cie doesn't have to mean you can't do what's right. Does it?
- [Down the road.]
- Vanille: Hey! look at that!
- Sazh: What? An airship?
- Vanille: And it's from Gran pulse! I guess it was one of this Ark's weapons or something.
- Fang: That's a gate to Gran Pulse.
- Sazh: So, what, that's our exit? Pulse, or bust?
- Lightning: Could be one of Dysley's traps.
- Vanille: Well that's not good. Do you think it might take us to Eden?
- Sazh: I'm doing the flying. No more of these ships taking charge of our travel plans stuff. Only place this thing is taking us is where these boys tell it to.
- Fang: Ha! Really? That is a Gran Pulse ship.
- Sazh: Really? Leave it to me.[coughs] I'm okay
- Snow: Either way, we're on borrowed time. Might as well go We get lucky, maybe we'll even turn up some way to get rid of these goofy tatoos.
- Vanille: But there's no way to do that.
- Fang: You never know. Maybe we just didn't think to look for one.
- Hope: If nothing, we know Coccon is safe for the time being. I'd say it's worth going to take a look
- Lightning: Maybe. But what about your dad?
- Hope: I made him a promise.I promised him to keep going, and do what I had to. He said only I would know what that was. The world's full of lies. There's no way of knowing what's right. All we can do believe on ourselves It's easy to sit back and let people trick you. Like how the Sanctum had us all thinking that a l'Cie was some sort of monster. I'm done with their lies. Fal'Cie, this whole Focus thing. From here on out I use my own eyes. Think. And act. I might not make all the right choices. But as long as I'm the one who decided what to do, there's nothing regret.
- Sazh: Okay. All right. Let's do it! I'm with you, bad choices and all!
- Hope: Of course I'm not sure how it's gonna turn out. Pulse is hell, you know.
- Fang: Oh, is it now? How many times have you been there?
- Hope: None. But I want to go and see what's it like fot myself.
- Snow: Okay, people! So, everyone in?
- [Everyone's in agreement.]
- Lightning: Off to hell we go.
- Vanille(Narrator): No one ever said the future would be easy. But I think we all saw the glimmer of a dream, somewhere in the sky that night. The tiniest spark of hope that we can change our fate. Who could say? That moment has come and gone.
---
- Fang: Home sweet home. Welcome to Gran Pulse.
[edit] Chapter 11
- Vanille(Narrator): A world wild and fragile, vibrant and untamed...Gran Pulse. It's a place where lives are ruled by the brutal struggle for survival and the callous and uncaring whim of the fal'Cie. There is no such thing as mercy...only a never ending string of trials that weed out the weak and leave only the strong. Raines knew the truth...the purpose lying in the heart of the fal'Cies' actions: 'Recalling their lost deity and returning the world to its former glory.' People were never anything more than sacrifices. And Cocoon's destruction? It's just a way to wake a sleeping god. But would bringing back the Maker into this world really lead to our salvation? The Maker created fal'Cie...and they, in their desperation of being reunited with the Maker, created l'Cie. And l'Cie? I wonder what we'll end up creating. Our future looked bleak. But as long as we could keep our spirits up...we'd find a way to change our fate--somehow.
---
- Fang: You were having a dream.
- Vanille: A pretty strange dream.
- [Lightning and company arrive.]
- Vanille: You're back!
- Fang: Hey guys. Have any luck?
- Lightning: No sign of anyone else. But we did find plenty of bloodthirsty wildlife and crumbling ruins.
- Snow: Well guys, we run of places to search another here. Where's Hope?
- Fang: He's off with the chocobo, getting supplies.
[Chocobo flies in.]
- Sazh: You all by yourself?
[Chocobo lands and hops toward Vanille]
- Vanille: His brand!
[Everyone looks for Hope]
- Snow: We gotta find him!
- [Later, after find Hope...]
- Snow: So this is how it ends?
- Sazh: Just wait. How long has it been since left Cocoon? Hm? Not a single soul for miles around, not a single clue about this whole l'Cie mess! What I'm saying is, we did well just getting this far.
- Vanille: But...we could go a little further.
- Sazh': Meaning?
- Vanille: That's still one place...
- Fang: Vanille! Are you sure?
- Vanille: I'm sure.
- Lightning:You know, if we don't find anything this time, we won't get another chance.
- [Hope comes to]
- Hope Oerba--the place it all began. The place where the Pulse fal'Cie lay dreaming. Vanille and Fang's home. Just maybe...it will be the place where we find the answers we're looking for.
- Fang: Yeah, right. If we can get there.
- Hope: Go ahead without me.
- Vanille: We can't just leave you!
- Hope: I'll be fine. You've all taught me so much--showed me how to fight.
- [Snow catches Hope.]
- Snow: What did I tell you? Leave the fighting to me.
- Hope I'm scared...
- Lightning: We understand. You're not gonna go through this ordeal alone, you know.
- Hope[starts crying]: But that what scares me! I don't...I don't want see you get hurt because of me. It would be better for everyone if I just stayed behind.
- [Alexander emerges, knocking the others back as Lightning and Fang run in front of Hope.]
- Fang: Mention ordeals, and look what comes along!
- Lightning: This is not an ordeal, this a gift! Hope, this the kind of power you've got inside. And it's telling you not to give up. Trust me.
- Fang: Oh, I get. It's here to show you the way. Show what you've got what it takes to get back on your feet and do this thing!
- Hope: You mean, that came from me?
- [Fight, after taming Alexander.]
- Sazh: That's some beast you tamed, I'll tell you that.
- Hope: Yeah. I always thought the Eidolons appeared to set us free through death. But now..I think maybe they're here to snap us out of our slumps
- Snow: Oh. Like the one you were just in?
- Hope: I'll ask for help earlier next time
- Vanille: I told you. On Gran Pulse, we're all family. You can moan all you like, but you're stuck with us.
- Sazh: You're never alone in hell.
- Fang: Listen, funnyman, don't call this place hell, all right?
- Lightning: So, we're decided then?
- [Every agrees.]
- Vanille(Narrator): Maybe nothing would change. And maybe we'd dead end. But, we were at least going to see where the road would take us. The search for a home buried in the past. And the faintest glimmer of hope. Our final journey had just begun
---
- Vanille: This stone, it's--
- Lightning: Look familiar?
- Vanille: It's a kind of Cie'th. It's in the last stage
- Lightning: A Cie'th?
- Vanille: Don't worry. Ir's no threat to anyone anymore. L'cie that fail their Focus become Cie'th and wander the wilds. Eventually, they lose the will to go on and turn to stone. But still, even in this state, they can't forget the task the task they've given.
- Fang: And they call out to, over and over: 'Complete my Focus.'
- Sazh: So they're doomed to eternal regret, huh? That's pretty horrible.
- Snow: Hey, we should help this one out. Come on, we can't just ignore it. Listen, if we fail our Focus, it could be us suffering that
- Sazh: Wow, what a happy thought. That's not like you.
- Lightning: But going out of his way to help someone? That's Snow all over.
- Vanille: Something on you mind?
- Hope: Huh? Oh, I, uh--I was just thinking.
- Vanille: About what? Something complicated?
- Hope: I was just taking it all in. The sky here, the trees, the sunlight, the smells..When I was on Cocoon, I never dreamed a place like this could even exist. But now? Here I am, on Pulse. If I hadn't gone to those fireworks, if I hadn't been sitting in that same train car during the Purge...If anything had been different, I'd never have had a chance to see this.
- Vanille: No, I'm sure you would have wound up here. Don't you remember you promised me? You promised me we'd come and see Gran Pulse together
- Hope: Uh..really? I...When did I do that?
- Vanille: Oh, I don't know. How about another lifetime?
- Hope: What does that even mean?
- Vanille: To tell you the truth, I've told so many lies, it's all a blur.
- Hope: Well, you know, sometimes you have to lie about stuff. To keep yourself going, because you afraid. Or to protect someone else, so they don't get hurt. Sometimes, even the things that everyone in the whole worlds think are true turn out to be lies. At the end of the day, though, it's not the lie that matter, but what you do after you tell it. Work hard enough, and you can make it true. I mean, maybe we both forgot. Maybe we did promised to see Grand Pulse together--and Cocoon.
- Vanille: Thanks, Hope
- Hope: Do something for me, will you? Keep smiling. I-iit makes me happy when you smile
- Vanille: I--I didn't know you felt that way.
- [sees Hope laughing]
- Vanille: Wait a minute. You mean you were joking?.
- Hope: Now were even!
- [Hope runs off with Vanille chasing him.]
- Vanille: Hey! Wait!
---
- Sazh: Wait. I know that smell! I knew it! Hey, you!
- [Pulse Chocobo greet Sazh]
- Sazh: Are you kidding me?
- [He notice baby Pulse Chocobos]
- Sazh: Hey. Looks what we've got here! New friends, huh? Why don't you got day 'hi?'
- [Baby Chocobo says hi to the Pulse Chocobo babies]
- Sazh: You keep growing like that, you'll be bigger than me before long, won't you? Maybe it'd be beast to just say good bye here
- [Baby Chobo beelines him]
- Sazh: Jeesh! I was just kidding! Yeah, I know. You're sticking with me till Daj wakes up. Could be a long wait. No one knows.
- [He notices Fang behind him.]
- Sazh: You watching me or something? Say something, or something!
- Fang: Didn't want to interupt. And, you know...I didn't quite know where to begin,
- Sazh: You don't have to begin anywhere. What happened to Dajh...wasn't your fault.
- Fang: But Sazh-
- Sazh: You've got more that enough weight on your shoulders. It was my fault at Euride--letting Dajh out of my sight like that. That one's on me,
- Fang: And you're just gonna deal with that on your own. Is that it?
- Sazh: I don't have to: I've got this guy! And you, you've got Vanille. You weren't alone. That kept you going, didn't it? Ah, listen to me! Trying to acting all parenty
- Fang: Well, don't give up. You're getting the hang of it. Really.
---
- Fang: You know, I've got to say..this is weird. When we were young, we were always taught that someday we'd be attacked by the demons of Cocoon And look at us now, waltzing back in Oerba, with the very people we were chosen to take up arms against.
- Vanille: Yeah.. Back then, we never would have helped you guys.
- Sazh: Well, right, Back then is when you got your first Focus, so.
- Vanille: Right. We already talked a bit, huh?
- Sazh: Little bit
- Vanille: Must have been centuries ago now, when me and Fang joined the battle against Cocoon. During the fight, I became Ragnarok...and cracked Cocoon's shell
- Sazh: That, uh..that must have been hard on you going through that
- Vanille: The memories--they're all pretty fuzzy.
- Hope: Cocoon's version of the War of Transgression must have been built up around what you two did.
- Fang: I didn't do anything. I just got turned to crystal, and I can't even remember why that happened. Don't even have the memories to show for it.
- Vanille: It's all my fault! So many people died because of me.
- Lightning: It's over, Those souls can rest.
- [As they resume their journey...]
- Snow: You've got to be ready to drop by now. Don't overdo it.
- Hope: I won't I know my limits, unlike some people.
- Snow: Oh-ho-ho! Now who's the tough guy?
- [Dahaka flies by.]
- Snow: What was that?
- Fang: A Grand Pulse fal'Cie. Used to see it flying around all the time.
- Vanille: And they said it had a home, somewhere near Oerba.
- Hope: So, that's good news, right? If we stay on it's tail, we should end up in your village. Let's follow it.
- Snow: Right!
---
- [In the Mah'habata Subterra]
- Fang: A Grand Pulse fal'Cie made this path
- Vanille: Yep. I bet it's off digging more tunnels right now.
- Hope: They seem different from all the fal'Cie we've seen on Cocoon, you know? It's like they just plow through, without caring what happens around them
- Fang: That's true. Then again, we were able to build our village on land cleared by fal'Cie. We lived alongside them, just like you do on Cocoon.
- Sazh: Oh yeah, this is just like Cocoon
- Lightning: In a world this big, who know what we'll find?
- [Later...]
- Snow: Well guys, heads up!
- [fal'Cie Atomos appears.]
- Snow: Whoa. Look at that thing. Let me guess. That's a fal'Cie?
- Vanille: Yep, busy carving out new tunnels.
- Snow: Making roads where roads ain't meant to go, huh? Kinda sounds like us. All right! Roly-poly! Let's hitch a ride on that thing.
- Vanille: Now you're thinking Grand Pulse style.
---
- [Vanille notices flowers.]
- Vanille: These flowers. You remember them, right?
- Fang: Yeah, sure I do. They grew all over Oerba.
- Vanille: We' can't be far now.
- Fang: It's my fault Gran Pulse ended up like this, isn't it? I remember everything. I became Ragnarok. I scarred Cocoon. And I left Gran Pulse in this mess, It was me.
- Vanille: What are you talking about?
- Fang: It all came to me. Everthing that happened with our Focus. All of it.
- Vanille: You're lying.
- Fang: No, it's the truth. It's all my fault.
- Vanille: Don't say that!
- [Vanille's mark reacts]
- Fang: Vanille!
- [Hecatoncheir emerges]
- Fang: The Eidolon knows the truth. Ha! I knew I was right.
- Vanille: Wait, so you were lying.
- Fang: No more than you were, Admit it, you remember everything.
- Vanille: It wasn't! It was'nt your fault.
- Fang: Vanille.. We should talk about this later!
- [Fight. After Hecatoncheir is tamed...]
- Fang: I knew something was off. You've been shying away from our Focus even since we woke up on Cocoon.
- Vanille: I..
- Fang: I could'nt figure it out, But then it all made sense, after hearing that story from Raines, You already knew. You knew Ragnarok was the name of destruction.
- Vanille: It was'nt fair. You had to do all the horrible stuff and I didn't have to so anthing--
- Fang: That is no reason to lie to me! You think that's what I want? You of all people!
- [While she looked ready to slug her, Fang hugs Vanille instead,]
- Fang: Poor kid, You've had it rough.
- Vanille: Fang...
- Fang: Listen, you're not alone anymore
- Vanille: (crying) I'm so sorry.
- Fang: Keep that up and you'll have me crying soon. We have a new family now. We stick together, you hear me?
- Vanille: Yes, I promise.
--
- Sazh: No way through. Man, that fal'Cie must have been slacking.
- [Hope gets on a Dreadnought.]
- Hope: Wait! Stop already!
- Lightning: It's the Vile Peaks all over again
[Hope falls down in the line of Atomos' path.]
- Lightning: Hope! Get out
- [Atomos almost crushes Hope when the Dreadnought holds the fal'Cie at bay]
- Hope: Is he trying to stop it? You can do it!
- [More Dreadnoughts arrive.]
- Lightning: What are they doing?
- [Atomos is stopped]
- Snow: Well that was cool. Go robot guys!
- Sazh: Good lesson for us. Not even a mighty fal'Cie is a match for the powerr of teamwork. That is inspiration right there.
- Fang: Save the sermon, oldman. Let's hop on Trailblazer here, while we still have the chance.
- [After riding Atomos, the group arrives to the other side.]
- Vanille: Whatcha doing?
- Snow: I was, uh...talking to Serah. Just telling her that...we're all gonna be okay.
- [He hands Vanille the crystal tear]
- Vanille: It's so pretty.
- Vanille(Narrator): Serah...You'd been crying, hadn't you? Back when we first met?
- Snow: You mean you met Serah?
- Vanille: I tried to hide our Focus, and she ended up a l'Cie. I wanted to say I was sorry, but...
- Snow: Well, when we rescue her, maybe you'll get the chance.
- Vanille: Yeah, I hope so.
- Snow: Come on.
- Vanille: I think Serah saw the same vision of Ragnarok that we did. Which mean, Dysley had to be lying when he explained her Focus. I think she beat it. She handed Cocoon over to is, and that's what made her turn to crystal!
- Snow: Yep! I Know.
[After emerging from the cave,]
- Lightning: Hey, Serah. What dreams are you having up there?
- Snow: You figure we can stop here today? I think we're all kind of tired.
- [Later]
- Lightning: How's Serah?
- Snow: Same as we left her. Feels so far away now. Serah says she want to talk.
[Gives Lightning the crystal tear]
- Snow: She'd probably prefer if you skipped the lectures.
- [Knocks Snow to the ground.]
- Lightning: Once we're home, what's you plan? You're getting married, right?
- Snow: What that?
- Lightning: Serah wants to know
- Snow: Don't scare me
- Lightning: You are getting married, aren't you. Don't let her down, you hear me?
- [Returns the Crystal Tear.]
- Snow: Don't worry. This tear will be her last. I'll make sure of that.
- Lightning: That's all I need to know.
- Snow: We will see her, right?
- Lightning: Don't do there. No room for doubt.
- Snow: You're right.
- Lightning: We'll see her again and soon. You convinced me of that. So stay strong.
- Snow: Don't worry. We'll finished this, and go see her together.
- [Upon arriving to Teajin's Tower.]
- Vanille: We get through there, and we'll be in Oerba
- Snow: You're almost home.
- Vanille: Yep!
- Sazh: Doesn't exactly look like it's gonna be a leisurely stroll.
- [Dahaka arrives]
- Vanille: A fal'Cie!
- Hope: Oh, so we just head through this fal'Cie lair to get to Oerba
- Lightning: What's another fal'Cie a this point, huh?
- [Dahaka kills off the wildlife surrounding its tower entrance.]
---
- [enter Tejin's Tower]
- Vanille: I'm not the only one hearing that, am I?
- Snow: No, uh...
- Sazh: It couldn't be them. Could it?
- Hope: I don't know. It's weird, like voices in my head.
- Fang: I hear it. 'Your presence here draws the tyrant's gaze. Leave this place at once.'
- Vanille: We can't leave, this is the only way for us to get through. Please! Help us.
- [Menhirrim speaks and Fang translates.]
- Fang: 'As you wish. Look for us, and the way will open.'
- [Menhirrim summons an elevator]
- Sazh: That was easy enough.
- Hope: You never know. Could be a trap.
- Sazh: Could be. Don't see no stairs, though. Do you?
- Fang: Nope. This is our ride--bumpy or not.
- [They take the elevator to go up the Second tier.]
- Snow: What's that?
- [Dahaka arrives]
- Lightning: Waiting for us, huh?
- [Dahaka goes on the offense, leaving a fire in its wake.]
- Lightning: What's this? Some kind of trap?
- [After clearing the Menhirrim's challenges, the gang are confronted by Dahaka.]
- Fang: Great. Here we got again!
- Snow: Can't take a hint
- Lightning: Your're one to talk.
- [the Menhirrim, chop off a part of Dahaka's tail.]
- Sazh: I'll be damned!
[Dahaka falls back as the Menhirrim leave]
- Vanille: Are they sad?
- Lightning: Well I guess the way is open now.
[After making their way to up the Tier, Dahaka attacks them again with Menhirrim appearing.]
- Sazh: Pick on someone your own size! My bad!
[the last surviving Menhirrim chops off Dahaka's tail.]
- Hope: They saved us again.
- Vanille:Yeah. You want to help us?
- [The Menhirrim leaves]
- Vanille: He's gone.
- Snow: Let's just count our blessings. The way is clear.
- Hope: Right.
- [After reaching the top of the Spire, the gang confronts Dangko.]
- Lightning: It's acting strange.
- Fang: He must be weak from losing his tail.
- [Dahaka assumes its fightning form.]
- Snow: Yeah? Looks plenty fiesty to me!
- Hope: He's bluffing to scare us off. Let's just go with that! Come on! We can do this!
- [After defeating Dahaka...]
- Fang: Look!
- Snow: Nice!
- [Menhirrim appears]
- Snow: Look who's back!
- Vanille: He saying thanks.
- Fang: 'At last, we are free. We go now, to hunt evil where it hides.'
- Hope: So I guess that means there are still more monsters like one out there.
- Lightning: Sounds like it. Somewhere out there on Gran Pulse.
- [Menhirrim dissappears.]
- Sazh: Gone just like that. For a big hunk of rock, that thing can move!
- Fang: Guess they're just doing what they can too. Thrying to 'save the world.'
- Lightning: Yeah, well, it's not all on them. Last time I checked, we are still in this fight.
- Hope: Oreba's right down there, then, isn't it?
- Vanille: Yep.
- Snow: So what's it like?
- Vanille: Well, it's kind of small. But it's warm and green, and very naturely!
- Fang: Around the fal'Cie, it was flowers as far as you could see, huh?
- Sazh: View from here ain't so rosy, I'm sorry to say.
- Lightning: You want to wait here?
- Vanille: No. I need to see for myself.
- [Looking down, they see a winter wasteland]
- Vanille: It's all gone.
- Fang: Every trace of color. We're chasing shadows. This whole idea of losing our brands is hopeless!
- Snow: There's got to be a way.
- Hope: Let's keep on looking. That's what we came here for. We all agreed, and now we're here.
- Vanille: You think..you think it's really possible?
- Hope: Sure. Anything is.
- Lightning: There's no going back.
- Fang: You don't think I know that?
- [The group make their way down.]
---
- [Oreba]
- Hope: Which is your house?
- Vanille: What do you mean, which is our? All of them. They're all ours.
- Fang: Yep. Everyone in the villahe
- Snow: One big, happy family?
- Sazh: One heck of a lot of places to hang your hat.
- Vanille: We're back.
- Hope: So, you want to take a look around?
- Fang: We'd better. Got to find something to help us losethese brands
- Sazh: That's not the only reason we're here. You're finally home. Make the most of it.
---
- "Serah": Ragnarok. Come Day of Wrath, O Pulse l'Cie. Embrace thy fate, thine home to burn. That fallen souls might bare our plea..To hasten the Divine's return. O piteous Wanderer, Ragnarok Make of this day a brave epoch. Deliever the Divine, Ragnarok.
- Snow: Serah! How did you...?
- "Serah": (hugs Snow) I was waiting for you to open your eyes. All the time I was asleep, I knew what was happening. I kept trying to think a way to save Cocoon-together.
- Snow: Serah?
- [He realized it's not Serah]
- "Serah": You get it know. There are no gods with miracles to save us, no matter where you look. That's why we have to call one. [At a smile is truly evil, just like Galenth as herself] Destroy Orphan. We'll save the world!
- Lightning: Stop it!
- "Serah": You can't do that, you love me too much. You do, don't you, Claire?
- Snow: Enough already. Listen up, we are all shooting for the same goal here.
- ["Serah" reveals herself to be Galenth.]
- Galenth: And the result of that is this.
- Snow: You son of a--
- [Tries to attack, but is unable to.]
- Galenth: You betray your fal'Cie to chase after dreams and shadows. The world you claim to wish to protect now faces the end of days with no hope of salvation.
- Lightning: I didn't think fal'Cie had the means.
- Galenth: Oh, it won't be fal'Cie who desstoy her. For centuries now, Cocoon has provided generousity or its human inhabitants' every want and need. Coddled them, one might even say.The result being their deep seated gear and hatred of change and all things alien. Fed, nutured, and ready to detonate at the slightlest spark The seeds of destruction take root, even now.
- Lightning: What did you do to Cocoon.
- Galenth: I resigned, appointing Raines as Primarch in my stead.
- Snow: Raines? He's alive?
- Galenth: The puppet is restrung to serve my needs, yes. Its eyes have long since turned to glass. Of course, the Cavalry's eyes will see our friend as nothing more than a traitor to their cause. They' say the fal'Cie got to himm too, or some such drivel. And imagine--when I spread word that it's Orphan tugging at his strings--what happens next.
- Sazh: You're gonna use the Cavalry to take the thing out?!
- Galenth: Perhaps. Or perhaps, I'll feign the howling of Pulsian wolves and let the fear-addled sheep slaughter themselves first. Either way, the end is at hand. [laughing manically] But what of yourselves? Will you enjoy the festivities beside me? Or perhaps...[Becomes Barthandelus] Greet the end here, in the land where it all began?
- [Fight]
- Galenth: The time has come. [laughs evilly] All me to extend my invitation. To save a people beyond salvation, there is only Ragnarok.
- [Minerva becomes an airship.]
- Galenth: Cocoon suffers. Release her from the pain.
- [Leaves as the group find a Cie'th stone.]
- Sazh: So, this is the end of the rainbow, huh? Here's hoping the pot full of tips on dealing with crackpot fal'Cie.
- Fang: You know, I don't remember this being here before. I guess it
- Vanille: Yeah, must be, I suppose it might a record of what happened. You know, after we turned to crystal.
- [Vanille reads the stone's message.]
- Vanille: 'Cocoon, where the slaves of Lindzei dwell, is the enemy of all life fostered by Pulse's sacred hand,. So our fal'Cie determined Pulse's will, chose l'Cie and gave them a Focus: Become Ragnarok, and bring about the end of Cocoon. And so the beast arose, defeated Lindzei's hateful fal'Cie, and prepared to tear Cocoon apart. But her Providence betray our l'Cie, draining Ragnarok of strength. Their Focus only half complete, the l'Cie were taken to the enemy's land...by Barthandelus, curse his name. And the Godesss said: l'Cie who rest upom Cocoon will reawaken, however long they may wait. And Ragnarok will rise again, to tear the land from it's seat in the sky. Her word...is absolute.'
- Sazh: Guess the jig is up.
- Hope: Cocoon's done for, isn't it?
- Sazh: Hey, don't sweat it. If we go ahead and smash Cocoon, you know some Maker's sure to roll up and save the day.
- Snow: As long as fal'Cie are around, this fight is never gonna end. So let's finish it. Let's get Dysley!
- Sazh: So what do we do about Orogan
- Fang: We help Orphan. What else can we do? It we manage to keep it safe--
- Lightning: Another war brreaks out somewhere down the We're l'Cie. It's not like can make people stop fighting.
- Hope: Lightning, you told me on Cocoon. It's not a question of can or can't. We just do it. That's our only choice this time, Maybe it won't do much. Maybe only one person will listen to us.But even then, isn't trying better than doing nothing?
- Vanille: Because ripples can make waves!
- Sazh: Okay, kids have gone crazy.
- Fang: Revolutionaries always het called crazy.
- Vanille: When I was on Cocoon, I wished on those fireworks. I wished to not let anything happen to Coccon this time. But I shouldn't have wished for that. Wishes aren't enough. Prayers either. This time I'm making a promise: I will keep Cocoon safe. I promise, no matter what.
- [group get on Minerva]
- Vanille(Narrator): Even if we were chasing shadows, our minds were made up. We'd realized along was that choice was the only thing we had left. Maybe we's fall short. Maybe we'd never even come close. But, someone, someday, would know we tried.

[edit] Chapter 12
Cid: People of Cocoon. My fellow citizens. We have survived the twilight, and gather now to welcome the dawn of the day on which we decide our fate. Many are lessons we have learned during our long night of hardship and sacrifice. And now we face choices. Choices which must be made as our hearts dictate, and not abandoned to uncaring chance. Let us forge ahead with unflinching courage and honor the fallen with action. With these hands we shape the future.
- Snow: Close call! And the hero saves the day!
- [Snow's l'Cie mark is seen.]
- PSICOM soldier: The intruders on the race circuit! Confirmed Pulse l'Cie! All units respond with lethal force!
- Snow: Catch me if you can!
- Hope: Hi there!
- [Alexander smashes a Cocoon droid]
- Hope: Cut 'em off!
- Snow: Think we have a winner!.
- [Vanille, in Hecatonchier's arms, yells at PSICOM soldiers to stop firing her as they bring in the big guns.]
- Vanille: uh-oh...
- [She and her Eidolon get blasted as Sazh drives Bridhilde to her aid.]
- Sazh: Vanille!
- [After Lighting scarps an Anavatapta Warmech.]
- Lighting: What's that sound?
- command: Say again, patrol. And speak clearly.
- Patrol: The army of Pulse! They're using transgates.
- command: Transgates? How many are coming through?
- Patrol: Numbers unconfirmed. But it's a full-scale invasion! Eden's being over run.
- [Pulse wildlife and machine attack. At Cid's chambers.]
- Guard: An army of creatures is attacking the city. It's a Pulse invasion force! Your Eminence, we must evacuate!
- [Guard is killed]
- Rygdea: So, Raines, this the Cocoon you dreamed of?
- Cid: My dream is but a fal'Cie's fancy now. End it.
- [Rygdea shoots Cid as PSICOM arrives.]
- Rygdea: Damn idealism! Ya feed it blood, and it howls for more!
- [back with Lightning's group.]
- Snow: What's going on?
- Hope: It looks like the Cavalry made their move.
- Sazh: There's more to it than that. [Checks an intercom] They're saying Eden is crawling with Pulse nasties.
- Fang: Fresh off the Ark, I'd wager.
- Sazh: This is out of control. What will happen to Cocoon?
- Lightning: It's all-out war
- Hope': Did we caused this by coming back? Barthandelus's prediction--it's all coming true
- Snow: Well his future stops right here. We're the ones who decide what's next.
- Vanille: Let's get moving!
- [Later.]
- Sazh: Oh, okay, I don't know
- Vanille: If only we could fly!
- Lightning: We can jump.
- [Lightning jumps to Vanille's shock.]
- Vanille: What are you-
- Sazh: Nothing to it!
- Snow: See you ground-side
- [Snow, Sazh, and Hope follow Lightning.]
- Vanille: You're all crazy!
- Fang: Don't want to get left behind, do ya? Just remember, don't drop the gizmo.
- [Fang jumps as well.]
- Vanille: Fang! This thing? Okay!
[Lightning fights the PSICOM soldiers as the others decent.]
- Vanille: You could have warned me
- Fang: That's how they get around on Cocoon.
- Hope: That's how Light gets around!
- Fang: Let's go.
- [By then, the soldiers are defeated.]
- Lightning: Right.
--
- Snow: Rosch?
- Yaag: I see your power has grown, Mr Villers. No matter. We will lay down our lives if that what it takes to stop you.
- Snow: Oh, we're on the same side here. We can back here to stop this!
- Yaag: Nevertheless, you are l'Cie. [enters the Proudclad] We can trust the pawns no more the fal'Cie who move them. Humanity's fate rests in it's own hands!
- [After the fight, The Proudclad falls back.]
- Vanille: I don't understand--we want the same thing! Why can't we just work together?
- Fang: These people are so blinded by fear, they can't even imaging it. Are we too late?
- Snow: Not yet. And we can't give up--no one else knows the truth. Am I right?
- Lightning: Only we know about the plan to destroy Cocoon.
- Hope: And which fal'Cie is behind it. Barthandelus.
- Fang: Then what are we waiting for? It's time for payback.
- Sazh: That's what I'm talking about. Once everything is finally out in the open, people are gonna wake up from this nightmare.
- Lightning: Let's show'em how human we still are.
- [Entering the building.]
- Snow: So close!
- Lighting:We'll find another way in.
- Snow: There's no time for that!
- [The sound of hovercycles are heard as the door opens.]
- Gadot: Gate got ya beat? Hero?
- Lebrau: Pretty lame.
- Marqui: Hey, Snow. Where ya been?
- Snow: Guys!
- Yuj: So, Snow..You're a Pulse l'Cie now, huh?
- Snow: Yeah. Good times.
- Yuj: Then why didn't you tell us? Why the hell didn't you come and find us?
- Lebrau: Yeah, we've been waiting.
- Marqui: Us and the rest of the Pulse fugitives
- Gadot: But damn, those Pulse fal'Cie sure know how to pick 'em
- Lighting: Yeah. Out of all the idiots in the wotld, they choose this one.
- Snow: Hey, hey, hey, now wait just a minute here! I am your fearless leader. You're not suppose to laugh at the boss!
- [Explosion heard in the distance.]
- Gadot: Just like old times, huh, Boss?
- Lebrau: Don't you worry, we'll take care of the civilians
- Marqui: And you concentrate on saving Cocoon.
- Hope: We all will Together!
- Snow: Now, what's out motto?
NORA: Fal'Cie are no match for NORA!
- [NORA takes its leave as Snow bids them farewell.]
- Sazh: What the--
- [particles raise up around the group.]
- Vanille: What is this stuff?
- Fang: Huh. Some sort of crystal?
- Sazh: I don't like this. Is Cocoon falling apart already?
- Hope: Could be. Maybe Orphan's having trouble holding things together with all this fighting going on?
- Galenth: The clamor of this conflict rouses the Maker. [laughing evilly]
- Sazh: Yeah? Well, we're gonna stop this ruckus soon enough.
- Galenth: Can you halt the Cavalry's charge? Filled with righteousness, they will slaughter Orphan in the name of freedom. Your only recourse will be to deliver them death, swift and certain.
- Lighting: No. Unlike you, they'll listen to reason.
- Galenth: We will set about that. I shall savor the demise of Cocoon from atop the highest seat in all of Eden. You, too, should hurry along to the heart of our grand capital. Your loved ones miss you so. Come, l'Cie. Fulfill your destiny!
- [Galenth leaves]
- Hope: Your destiny...We'll decide our own destiny!
- Lighting: Right--over Barthandelus' dead body.
- Fang: So this is the heart of Cocoon.
- Vanille: It's incredible.
- Hope: That's where Eden sits, controlling all of the other Cocoon fal'Cie. It's also where we'll find Oprhan, the battery that keep Eden running.
- Snow: Good to know. So, what's the plan?
- Lighting: Your usual plan. Charge in through the front door, what else?
Sa: Right the front--hey! What're you--? Where are you going? [PSICOM arrives.]
- Lighting: Right.
- Sazh: Right.
- [Pulse mecha appear.]
- Sazh: I hope that's our backup.
- Lighting: Well if it is, I don't think our backup is happy to see us.
[After escaping the two sides, the group find the damaged Proudclad and the Cie'th it killed.]
- Sazh: Looks like no one was spared.
- [Proudclad reactivates]
- Fang: He really wants us dead!
- [Fight]
- Sazh: Rosch, it's over.
- Yaag: What of my soldiers? I see.
- Sazh: Why are you doing this, Rosch? I mean, haven't you done enough?
- Yaag: Enough? Under fal'Cie order, I've orchestrated murder. All to answers the fears of a panicked populace. For a people utterly dependent on the fal'Cie it was the only solution I could offer. Even if that solution was a farce.
- Hope: Then, you knew the fal'Cie were using us?
- Yaag: I believe their rule was best for Cocoon's present and future prosperity. But it seems I misjudged their benevolence. If this is my punishment, I accept it
- Fang: So, you're just gonna let everything fall to hell. Is that it?
- Yaag: You're right. One thing remains. This is...this is PSICOM Director Rosch. Attention all PSICOM and Guardian Corps units. Suspend l'Cie operation. I repeat, suspend l'Cie operation. All units should focus their efforts on evacuating civilian population. I do not issue this order as an absolute. You are free to make the choice.
- [Collapses]
- Snow: Rosch!
- Yaag: Go. You're here to save Cocoon, aren't you? Or is that a farce as well?
- Snow:Stay alive. We'll save you alive when it's over.
- [After the enter, Roush sees Behemoth Kings entering the area.]
- Yaag: I'll trust in your humanity, l'Cie. The fate of Cocoon is in your hands. This is my end. The end which I have chosen!
- [Activates the Proudclad's self-destruct as the monsters charge.]
[edit] Chapter 13
- [Enter Edenhall.]
- Vanille: Where's the Calvary?
- Fang: If they made it this far, we'll see them soon enough.
- [Cie'th appear.]
- Snow: Not them too...they're all Cie'th
- [The room quakes as the found find themselves in Orphan's Cradle]
- Lighting: This is it. A lot of dreams died to get us here, and we can't let it be for nothing.
- Sazh: You said it. It's not just our future we're fighting for.
- Hope: We'll do it for everyone. Fal'Cie rule ends here.
- Snow: Dysley! We're coming for you!
--
- [Enter Orphan's chamber]
- Lighting: Ready?
- Vanille: Yep?
- Hope: Yeah. Ready.
- Snow: This is it.
- Lighting: Moment of truth, Hero.
- [They jump unto the platform, as light particles drift another them.]
- Vanille: Little lights. Just like in Oerba.
- Galenth (Voice): Life's spark shines on, once freed from it's fleshy shroud.
- [The crystals of Dajh and Serah appear.]
- Sazh: Dajh!
- Snow: Serah!
[Galenth appears]
- Galenth: Dreams, meanwhile, shatter in a flash.
- [Dajh is shattered]
- Snow: No!
[Serah is shattered with a enraged Snow charging at Galenth, knocked back by his barrier.
- Lighting: Think! Where's the real Serah?
- [Snow takes out the crystal tear.]
- Sazh: Hey, listen. It isn't real. It's fal'Cie smoke and mirrors.
- Hope: Yeah. They don't work wonders. They play tricks.
- Galenth: [laughs evilly] At last, my errant l'Cie. Men fight men. Men battle beasts. Cocoon wars with Pulse. There can be no end to such conflict. But Cocoon's end is imminent and inevitable. Will you not at least slay Orphan, and make it quick? As an act of mercy?
- Lighting: 'Mercy?' You 'murder.' And Cocoon won't die. We're not here for that. We came for you.
- Galenth: Such willful insolence. Disappointing. You prolong Cocoon's suffering. And to what end? Refusing me but condemns another to face your Focus tommorrow. If you truly seek salvation, you will obey!
- [After fight, Barthandelus sinks into the pool.]
- Sazh: Hey! Put a lid on it!
- Galenth/Barthandelus: Release...At last, release!
- Lighting: It's done.
- Snow: All right!
[Everyone celebrates until...]
- Hope: It's that bird again.
- [It plunges into the pool, evoking Orphan as it assimilates Barthandelus unto it..]
- Orphan: A haven, yea. Yet it must fall ere we be saved. Too frail a shell, and humans should not thrive. Too stout a shell, and they would not die. Slaughter and salvation! Two irreconcilable Focuses we bore. Yet bound were we in a cocoon prison impervious to our power. And so we thank you for granting us our longed-for birth.
- Snow: Dylsey?
- Sazh: No. Not anymore.
- Orphan: We are the Abandoned One, born but now to die. Our name is Orphan. By our hand, the world shall know redemption.
- [After a fight, Orphan raises up and knocks everyone down with its power.]
- Orphan: Have you ever paused to consider our reason for making l'Cie of men? We fal'Cie are crafted for a single purpose, and granted finite power to that end. With men it is not so. Men, dream, aspire, and through indomitable force of will achieve the impossible. Your power is beyond measure. We take l'Cie that we might wield such strength. Through you, we obtain freedom from our bondage. And now, your Focus alone remains.
- [Orphan targets Vanille]
- Orphan: Defy it, and all will be for naught. Cocoon's sacrifice, and that of Gran Pulse as well.
- Fang: Vanille!
- Orphan: Yet, if we but summon the Maker, we will be granted the chance to begin again. All our sins, absolved and the world--born anew!
- Fang: Stop it!
- Orphan: Submit, l'Cie! Become Ragnarok! Lead us into the light!
- Fang: Let her go!
- Orphan: We have no need of flawed l'Cie.
- Fang: Orphan! I'll do it. I'll destroy you.
- [Orphan releases Vanille]
- Orphan: Ragnarok. The will to guide a world unto oblivion. Can you bear the sin of our salvation?
- Fang: You heard me. I said I'll do it!
- Vanille: You can't! I'll be fine! And you can't forget our promise! We promised to save Cocoon! We promised!
- [Fang turns her weapon towards Vanille.]
- Fang: I made another promise too, To protect my family. Sometimes... You've got choose!
[Snow and Sazh stop her from hurting Vanille as Lightning and Hope join the fray.]
- Lighting: What do you gain from hurting Vanille? We're in this together.
- Fang: This is my Focus. No one's gonna stop me!
[Fang causes Lightning, Snow, Hope, and Sazh to turn into Cie'th]
- Fang: Everything I do--Why? Is this what you meant to happen? All of em...
- Orphan: [laughing manically]
- Vanille: After all we went through!
- [The Cie'th attack Fang.]
- Fang: Guess I deserve it, after what I did! Are they my sin to bear for choosing salvation?
- Vanille: Please...stop. Stop it!
- Orphan: [laughing manically]
- Vanille: Give them back!
- [Fang transforms, attacking Orphan]
- Orphan: Salvation is born of sacrifice--miracles, of misery From shattered shards, a new crystal legend will arise. Yes! Let anger be your strength! Despair. Depair and save us all Lo! The day of Wrath has come!
- [But Fang is unable to get the job done.]
- Orphan: Yet again. How many times must you fail?
- [Orphan revives Fang and forces her up.]
- Fang: Let me go.
- Orphan: Retake the form of Ragnarok. Deliver us which we have been too long denied!
[Orphan kills Fang and revives her.]
- Fang: What do you what?
- [A tortureous cycle starts up.]
- Orphan: Steep yourself in hatred. Let it infuse your with the strength it craves.
- [Vanille approaches.]
- Orphan: Your awakening demands an offering of pain!
- Fang: Vanille... run.
- Vanille: No! I swore I wouldn't away anymore! I'd rather fight and lose than give up without even trying!
- [A sudden attack hits Orphan, knocking Fang into the air]
- Vanille: Fang!
- [Fang is saved by Snow.]
- Sazh: Miracles out of misery. You've got to be kidding me.
- Hope: Yeah, Fang, Who'd be dumb enough to swallow that crock? [While he heals Fang]
- Lighting: Sure, we've all had better weeks
- Vanille: You're alive
- Fang: But you can't be!
- Lighting: Could be more fal'Cie smoke and mirrors.
- Snow: Fang, I'm sorry.
- Lighting: We made you go it alone.
- Fang: Second time now, isn't it?
- Vanille: But, where were you?
- Hope: Somewhere cold and dark, just thinking about everything up until now. And then...and then it was like--
- Snow: It was like--I has a glimpse of the future. Everyone was smiling and laughing. Even Serah. Even Light
- Sazh: I don't know. It was a new Focus, or something. You know, I'm thinking, didn't really make sense of course. I mean, knowing we were worm bait and all, but...As luck would have it, next think I know I feel somebody pushing me right along.
- Lighting: You were there too, Fang. Same side. All of us. Together to the end.
- [Recap of Fang's vow to Vanille on Grand Pulse.]
- Vanille: We promised, didn't we.
- Vanille: Anger didn't drive us. We just had things worth fighting for.
- [Orphan's shell sinks.]
- Vanille (Narrator): The brand of l'Cie. The symbol of the Focus we all faced. The mark of the fate we all shared. Proof of the promise we all made.
- Snow: The heroes never die. Come on. We've got a world to save!
- Hope: If we have the power to destroy Cocoon, then we have the power to save it. You say you want your Day of Wrath, do you? Well it's coming right up!
- Sazh: Time we gave the people what they really want.
- Vanille: We can do it. I know we can. We made it this far. Let's make a real miracle happen!
- Fang: Lady Luck sure ain't on his side!
- [Orphan's true form appears, laughing evilly.]
- Orphan: You overreach yourselves.
- Lighting: No. We overreach you.
- Orphan: Is that so?
- Lighting: You don't believe in anything. You gave up on life before you were even born. Sat poisoning Cocoon from the inside, waiting for someone to come and destroy you. Sure, you think the end of the world is salvation. All you care about is death's release. So take it, and leave the rest of us alone. We don't think like that. When we think ther's no hope left, we keep looking until we find some. Maybe Cocoon is past saving, but it's our home. And we'll protect it or die trying! We live to make the impossible possible! That is our Focus!
- [Final battle, Orphan dies.]
- Lighting: We're here to stop him. We've come to save Cocoon, right?
- Others: Right!
- [With Orphan dead, Cocoon crystallizes as it fall]
- Lighting: Stay together.
- Sazh: Hey, grab my hand!
- Hope: Okay!
- [Only Fang and Vanille remain as the others are separated from the.]
- Snow: Fang! Vanille!
- Fang: Vanille?
- Vanille Narrator: Wishes can come true.
- Hope: What?... [As we watches Fang and Vanille]
- Vanille Narrator: But not if you just wait for miracles.
- Vanille: Ready.
- Vanille Narrator: Miracles are things we make for ourselves. Here, and now.
- [The form Ragnarok, jumping off of Cocoon and using the magma to create a before being crystallized. As dawn comes, everyone comes t.]
- Vanille (Voice): Wake up
- [Lighting decrystallizes as do Snow, Sazh, and Hope]
- Lighting: They did it, they saved the world.
- Snow: No, they gave us a new one.
- Sazh: That's one gift I forgive 'em for not wrapping.
- Hope: Yeah.
- Vanille (Voice): This is as much as we can do. The rest is up to you.
- Hope: Does this mean we... Completed our Focus?
- Snow: Cocoon's seen better days, that's for sure.
- Sazh: Yeah, and I'd say that qualifies as demolition. Mission accomplished
- Fang (Voice): Whatever you want to believe.
- Lighting: It really is miracle.
- Hope: My brand! It's gone!
- [The others notice their l'Cie brands are gone too.]
- Vanille (Voice): It's easy to lose sight of things in a world as wide as this one. But if you keep going, you're sure to find what you're looking for--sooner or later.
[Serah and Dajh are seen in the distance.]
- Serah: Look there.
- Snow: Serah.
- Lighting: It is.
- [Sazh and Snow run towards them]
- Sazh: Dajh!
- Dajh: Daddy!
- Serah: Snow!
- Snow: Serah.
- Hope: They're gone, aren't they? I guess they meant for this to be good bye. Then again, we've changed our fate before.
- Lighting: Hey... [Puts her arm on Hope's shoulder]
- [Serah runs to Lighting]
- Serah: I missed you.
- Lighting: Serah...I'm sorry.
- Serah: It's okay.
- Snow: Hey, come on, the apologies can wait! We've got a wedding to plan! You are gonna allow it—right?
- Hope: Wow, you don't waste time, do you?
- Snow: No, I don't
- Sazh: That's right. Just charge in, guns blazing!
- Snow: I swear to you, I will make her happy!
- Lighting: I believe you. Congrats.
[Inside Cocoon]
- Fang (Voice): When prayers turn into promises, not even fate can stand in their way.
- Vanille (Voice): We held the light of hope in our hearts, and achieved the impossible. Now we live on, to greet a new dawn.
[edit] Others
- Titan: L'Cie dwell outside the natural order. Should their strength fail them, they become the mindless foes of life itself.
- [Titan places King Behemoth before the group.]
- Sazh: Oh great, another one. Nothing like witnessing survival of the fittest first hand.
- Snow: A Cie'th?
- [Attacus kills the King Behemoth.]
- Fang: Once you're a Cie'th, killing the only thing that comes naturally.
- [Attacus is defeated.]
- Titan: Fortune smiles upon the strong and worthy. Surrender not to despair. The future of life's cycle goes with you.
- Fang: Some endorement, coming from the guardian of all life on Grand Pulse.
