Wikiquote:Image use policy

This page is an official policy on Wikiquote. It has wide acceptance among editors and is considered a standard that all users should follow. Please do not make significant changes to this page without prior discussion.

Uploads are disabled on Wikiquote, and so no new images can be uploaded. This is a machine-enforced "no new images" policy.

All editors can utilize Wikimedia Commons resources, which contains over 100,000 multimedia files, and also are encouraged to upload their favorite images or media files under free license(s) compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License, or in the public domain.

[edit] Past images

Images that had been uploaded prior to this policy going into effect will remain on Wikiquote unless they are either:

• orphaned,
• re-uploaded to Commons,
• or not free.

Images that are not free (i.e. released under "fair use") will be deleted following a consensus of the community. The same is true for orphaned images. Images that have been re-uploaded to Commons will be speedy-deleted under the G3 (housekeeping) clause.
