Talk:Arabic Similes

This is an interesting page, but I wonder whether it is appropriate for Wikiquote. Do these have the status of proverbs, or are they just figures of speech? (Cf. Arabic parallelism, which has more of the feel of proverbs.)

Proverb: A phrase expressing a basic truth which may be applied to common situations. Wiktionary

It appears that different languages have different ways of categorizing these things. Does it make sense to say proverbs are "مَثَلٌ" that are more than merely "مثل" or, not speaking any Arabic whatsoever, am I being incoherent? I am afraid that if we had a similar page of similes in English figures of speech (e.g. "sharp as a tack," "old as the hills," "dull as a doorknob," "cold as a witch's teat," etc.) it would rapidly degenerate into non-notable and made-up things, more so than the proverbial proverbs page. ~ Ningauble 21:00, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
