[edit] Found Saxby

I managed to find http://users.ev1.net/~homeville/fictionmag/s1211.htm#A49922 which shows that some author named Charles Saxby wrote stories between 1913 and 1933. He was probably born no later than 1905 (few people are published before they are 13). This at least should prevent him being confused with other more contemprary Saxbys ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 05:06, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure this is the same person who wrote Death in the Sun (1940), the only work thus far quoted in this article. The above link is broken, but with some digging, I managed to find another site with a copy of what I believe is the same info that MosheZadka was citing. Here's a formal citation to help any future research:
Galactic Central claims to focus on indexing "those who have devoted most of their output to the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres", but does include some pulp magazines in the crime/detective genre, which Saxby's series of "Death" titles suggests is his primary genre. The works they list for "Saxby, Charles" are:
  • "The Lotus", Everybody's Magazine, Feb 1913
  • Empire, Everybody's Magazine, Sep 1913
  • "In the House of Old Mensah", Ainslee's, Sep 1913
  • "Fetish", Ainslee's, Apr 1914
  • "The Grinning Mask", The Smart Set, Jun 1914
  • "Her Ladyship's Little Way", The Smart Set, Mar 1915
  • "The Scapegoat", The Popular Magazine', 5 April 1917
  • "Shoes", Ainslee's, May 1918
  • "The Red Mass", Telling Tales, Aug 1919
  • In Camera, Everybody's Magazine, Feb 1920
  • "Betrayal", Everybody's Magazine, Mar 1920
  • "Sorcery of Sun" (probably a short story), Telling Tales, Apr 1920
  • "History", Romance, Jul 1920
  • "The Proud Piece", Everybody's Magazine, Oct 1920
  • "The Singer of the Night" (serial installment), Everybody's Magazine, Feb/Mar 1921
  • "Walking Ann Fools the Sheriff", The American Magazine, Aug 1921
  • "Full Circle", Everybody's Magazine, Nov 1923
  • "Out in the Sudd", The Yellow Magazine, 2 Oct 1925
  • Stamboul, Five-Novels Monthly, May 1930 (with H. A. Noureddin Addis)
  • "Treasure of the Pharaohs", Short Stories, 25 Aug 1930 (with H. A. Noureddin-Addis)
  • "Laura in Light—Laura in Dusk", Woman's Home Companion, Jun 1931
  • Escape, Five-Novels Monthly, Sep 1933 (with H. A. Noureddin Addis)
  • The Gold of Isis, Five-Novels Monthly, Nov 1933 (with H. A. Noureddin Addis)

The Library of Congress lists only the following works by the only Charles Saxby they have on record:

  • Reforming Bertie (1912)
  • Death over Hollywood (1937) (with Louis Molnar; elsewhere reported as Louise Molnar)
  • Murder at the Mike (1938)
  • Death Cuts the Film (1939)
  • Death in the Sun (1940)
  • Death Joins the Woman's Club (1940)
  • Death Wore Roses (1942)
  • Even Bishops Die (1942)
  • Out of It All (1941)
Given the amazingly non-overlapping fit if one inserts the magazine list between the first and second LoC-listed novels, it looks like this is the same person. So far, though, I have been able to find not a word about who he is, other than an author of short stories, serials, and novels. I'm hoping to find something at the library later today that would be useful for an introduction. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:19, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
