How is a quote from Kafka's story "Give it up!" mis-attributed to him?

How is Kafka a "Bohemian"??

He was born and grew up in Prague (Praha), Czech Republic, in the former Bohemia. So he was Bohemian by geographical origin. He was ethnically Jewish, and he wrote in German, so he is considered a German writer. --Aphaia 30 June 2005 23:08 (UTC)

Is this a Kafka quote, and if so, from where? "The meaning of life is that it stops."

"One of the first signs of the beginnings of understanding is the wish to die. This life appears unbearable, another unattainable. One is no longer ashamed of wanting to die; one asks to be moved from the old cell, which one hates, to a new one, which one will only in time come to hate." "understanding" is not really a fitting translation of "Erkenntnis". I think that "cognition" would be more suitable.

Furthermore the quote is quite incomplete. "Ein Rest von Glauben wirkt dabei mit, während des Transportes werde zufällig der Herr durch den Gang kommen, den Gefangenen ansehen und sagen: 'Diesen sollt ihr nicht wieder einsperren. Er kommt zu mir.'" might push a interpretation into the correct direction. Here try of a translation: "A remainder of faith assists thereby, the Lord will appear in the corridor by coincidence, facing the prisoner saying: 'You shall not imprison this one again. He will come to me'"
