Is the "Intelligence" in "Intelligence is like four-wheel drive. It only allows you to get stuck in more remote places." referring to military intelligence (eg espionage)? Can we put something to clarify this here? - Twilo

Honda Diesel "Grrr" Advert[isement][edit]

The following text recently appeared in this article. It's apparently the copy for a European advertisement for Honda. It's not properly sourced, and the source that's given provides no reason to attribute it to Keillor. I don't think it belongs here, and absent a source citation demonstrating authorship it certainly doesn't belong in the "sourced" section. Is this legit or just guerilla marketing?

Here's a song for anyone
who's ever hated...
in the key of Grrr...

Can hate be good? Can hate be great?
Can hate be good? Can hate be great?
Can hate be something we don't hate?

We'd like to know... why it is so.
That certain diesels must be slow
and thwack and thrum... and pong
and hum and clatter-clat.

Hate something. Change something.
Hate something, change something,
make something better-r-r-r

Ohh isn't it just bliss... when a diesel goes like this?

Hate something. Change something.
Hate something, change something,
make something better-r-r-r... [1]

Unsourced[edit]

  • Beauty isn't worth thinking about; what's important is your mind. You don't want a fifty-dollar haircut on a fifty-cent head.
  • I love sweet corn. It truly is better than sex! I'm not lying! All across the Midwest tonight, a husband and wife will finish what husbands and wives do, and the wife will ask the husband: "How was that?" And, if the man is honest, he'll say "Well, it wasn't sweet corn, but it was nice." It's a fact! Sweet corn is better than sex!...fresh sweet corn!...Store bought sweet corn, yes, sex is definitely better than that!
  • Intelligence is like four-wheel drive. It only allows you to get stuck in more remote places.
  • People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know?
  • You'd learn more about the world by lying on the couch and drinking gin out of a bottle than by watching the news.
  • If you give your child a vice, why not give it one that will get it through medical school?

Give up your so-called ‘Christian’ life...[edit]

“Christ is calling some of you... to give up your so-called ‘Christian’ life and follow Him.” --Garrison Keillor, Lake Wobegon Days

This quote is circulating (edited) on the net. I found it online in google books without a page number. If someone has the physical book, perhaps you'll put it on the quotes page.
