Talk:John Jay

I would like to see a citation for the quote: "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." This is often quoted by the US religious right in support of their claim that the US was founded as a Christian nation, but no source is ever given. There is no indication of whether these words were part of a Supreme Court ruling, were obiter dictum, or were delivered in some completely different, non-judicial context as a statement of Jay's personal opinion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.190.219.78 (talkcontribs) 10 October 2007 at 20:38 (UTC)

It was written in a letter to John Murray (1816-10-12), as seen here: [1]. I'll add the source to the page. - InvisibleSun 20:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bolded text[edit]

Why is some of the text bolded and other parts not?--Mr. Guye (talk) 17:56, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
