I can understand the clocks quote, but the other two don't seem to stand on their own at quotations.

The Big Brother quote could be attributed to anyone that disliked the reality TV show, so it's not really unique, if that's the right word.

The Room 101 reference, is just a reference, not really a quote.

What's the editorial stance on this?

Can we include the origins or popular sayings or popular words/phrases?

Well what Winston Smith wrote was 'Down With Big Brother' but since the name of the tv show comes from the novel, you can't censure quotes just because of the tv show. Room 101 is a quote, calling it a reference doesn't make any difference. -Adrian
