Copyvio[edit]

I've blanked this page as a copyright violation because it violates the GFDL by copying content from Wikipedia without also providing the accompanying edit history to provide attribution. The content was copied from the film's Wikipedia page and was then removed from that page. —LrdChaos (talk) 23:12, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After Phaedriel's reconstruction and reformatting, I've made some additional changes to help clarify some of the ways we avoid copyvio problems while improving the impact our of articles:
  • My first edit changed some context wording, and tweaked various punctuation to come into close conformance with our standards. This isn't just nitpicking. Someday, I hope we'll have better formatting solutions that will simplify editors' work. When that happens, I expect to unleash a bot to reformat all dialog in all articles. The more each quote is in exact formatting conformance, the less cleanup work will be necessary.
  • My second edit removed quotes that I felt were more like attempts to present plot points or substantive scenes instead of quoting brief, powerful lines. While IMDb is content with including this material, we generally strive for quotes that have impact because of the words, not the scene they're in (which our readers can't see anyway). This also goes for quotes that require sound effects, visual cues, or other non-textual material to understand or appreciate.
The result bears little resemblance to IMDb's quote page in form or content, except for some of the specific quote wording. The idea is to bring our material closely into line with our own practices of formatting and pithiness, in a way that also removes any arguable presentation copyright from the quote text from other sources, which itself apparently cannot be copyrighted. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
