Deletion discussions with names different from page names[edit]

Most of the pages we nominate for deletion, by far, have deletion discussions that exactly match the article title. There are occasional needs (like multiple related-page nominations) that either have more than one page name in their titles or, in the case of complex situations, have a descriptive title instead.

I have added a "discussion" parameter to this template to accomodate this situation. Just add the desired discussion name like so:

{{vfd-new | discussion=Lots of junk articles}}

and the link shown in the VfD header, which is used to create the discussion, will be the desired discussion title instead of the name of the page being nominated for deletion. In the above example, the link would go to:

Wikiquote:Votes for deletion/Lots of junk articles

The nominator will also have to remember that the corresponding Step III template to add to WQ:VFD would be:

{{subst:vfd-new3 | pg=Lots of junk articles}}

I haven't fully tested this yet, although I tested the template to make sure my change didn't break its ordinary use. Let me know if there is a problem. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 17:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

@Koavf: This page has recently been seeing a lot of vandalism recently. Regardless of what you think of VfDs, I think we can agree that this template should be protected. – Ilovemydoodle (Not a sockpuppet) (talk / e-mail) 16:34, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
