Song lyrics[edit]

The Allman Brothers Band (1969)[edit]

  • Just one more mornin'
I had to wake up with the blues.
    Pulled myself outta bed, yeah,
    Put on my walkin' shoes.
    Went up on the mountain,
To see what I could see.
    The whole world was fallin',
Right down in front of me.
    • Dreams, written by Gregg Allman
  • I been run down, I been lied to,
I don't know why I let that mean woman make me a fool.
She took all my money, wrecked my new car.
Now she's with one of my goodtime buddies,
They're drinkin' in some crosstown bar.

Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whipping post,
    Tied to the whipping post,
    Tied to the whipping post,
Good lord, I feel like I'm dyin'.

Idlewild South (1970)[edit]

  • People can you feel it? Love is everywhere.
People can you hear it? Love is in the air.
    We're in a revolution. Don't you know we're right?
Everyone is singing. Yeah! There'll be no one to fight.
    • Revival, written by Dickey Betts
  • Well, I've got to run to keep from hiding,
And I'm bound to keep on riding.
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let them catch me, no,
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

And I don't own the clothes I'm wearing,
And the road goes on forever,
And I've got one more silver dollar,
But I'm not gonna let them catch me, no
Not gonna let 'em catch the Midnight Rider.

Eat a Peach (1972)[edit]

  • Crossroads, seem to come and go, yeah.
The gypsy flies from coast to coast.

    Knowing many, loving none,
    Bearing sorrow havin' fun.
But back home he'll always run
    To sweet Melissa... mmm...

  • I recall once upon a time,
Livin was so easy and I felt so fine.
But, my, my, my right before my very eyes,
Satan came with fire to burn me,
Wouldn't listen when they warned me.
A dagger in my back while she's calling me honey,
Wouldn't stand back, for neither love nor money.
  • You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day.
Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way,
Turn your love my way, yeah.

Brothers and Sisters (1973)[edit]

  • Lord, I was born a ramblin' man,
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can.
And when it's time for leavin',
    I hope you'll understand,
That I was born a ramblin' man.
  • Well I'm Southbound, Lord I'm comin' home to you.
Well I'm Southbound, baby, Lord I'm comin' home to you.
I got that old lonesome feelin' that's sometimes called the blues.
    • Southbound, written by Dickey Betts
  • Don't worry for me
    Well I'm all right.
    Lord knows I"m having
    A natural good time.
    Pocket full of money,
    Gonna boogie all night;
There ain't nobody tell me that's crime.

When morning comes and it's time to go,
    Pony boy carry me home;
    Pony boy carry me home.

    • Pony Boy, written by Dickey Betts

Enlightened Rogues (1979)[edit]

  • Some-where down on a back street
Way down deep in the back seat,
Where I first learned how to moan your name,
I remember the night I met ya.
Ooh Sweet Mama, I just can't forget ya.
Can't stop thinkin' 'bout your crazy love.

    Crazy Love
    Crazy Love
    I love you Mama.
But you're too bad to change.

    • Crazy Love, written by Dickey Betts

Reach for the Sky (1980)[edit]

  • We've been through hell and high water,
Ready to go through it all again.
As long as we've got a quarter between us all,
We're gonna have money to spend, oh.
    • Hell and High Water, written by Dickey Betts
  • Well I don't know, if I dreamed it.
I don't know, might be real.
Lord, it's so strange, how one will find another,
But I keep on searchin', cause I know you're out there,
And all I gotta do is open my eyes and see her - the mystery woman.
    • Mystery Woman, written by Gregg Allman, Dan Toler

Brothers of the Road (1981)[edit]

  • Silent shadows of the night,
    Faded with the morning light.
    We just wrote another song.
Maybe a word or two is wrong.
There's so much that could be said,
It's hard to write it in a line.
But when the final word is read,
    Maybe something could be said
For all the brothers of the road.
Just like you, we bear a heavy load.
Been through hell and back again.
If we don't lose we're bound to win.
    • Brothers of the Road, written by Dickey Betts, Jim Goff
  • You've heard every line before
    My life's a revolving door
With no way out and no way in.
You know just what's on my mind
Could you take a chance one more time?
Maybe we could start all over again.
    Straight from the heart,
    Baby my love.
    • Straight from the Heart, written by Dickey Betts, Johnny Cobb

Seven Turns (1990)[edit]

  • Well I am on the prowl, baby
Looking for someone to satisfy my needs.
    Some way, somehow,
I'm gonna find someone to spend some time with me.
I ain't looking out forever, for some woman to treat a good man right.
You look so good, you got me thinking.
You might satisfy my soul tonight.
There's no harm done, I know you're the one.
You don't got to worry, no hurry,
    The night's still young.
I'm just looking for some good clean fun.
    • Good Clean Fun, written by Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Johnny Neel
  • Seven turns on the Highway,
    Seven rivers to cross.
    Sometimes you get lost.
Sometimes in the dark of night
You see a cross road sign.
One way in the morning light
You gotta make up your mind.

    Somebody's calling your name.
    Somebody's waiting for you.
Love is all that remains the same.
That's what its all coming to.

    • Seven Turns, written by Dickey Betts
  • I can't stand to see you leaving.
I'm not ashamed to beg you to stay.
I can't lock the door and keep you.
I won't stand in your way.

Guess I've got to let you go.
But there's just one thing you should know.

It ain't over, it ain't over yet.
You might walk away but you won't forget.
    I'll never stop loving you.
    My mind is set.
So do what you gotta do yeah.
    Cause it ain't over yet.

    • It Ain't Over Yet, written by Doug Crider, Johnny Neel

Where It All Begins (1994)[edit]

  • Roll on, roll on,
take me where I can ease my pain.
Preacher say boy now where you been?
    Getting lead in my pockets,
    putting money in sin.
When the mornin' comes not a nickel to my name,
threw it all away on the all night train.
  • When you can't find the light,
That got you through the cloudy days,
When the stars ain't shinin' bright,
You feel like you've lost you're way,
When those candle lights of home,
    Burn so very far away,
Well you got to let your soul shine,
Just like my daddy used to say.

    He used to say soulshine,
    It's better than sunshine,
    It's better than moonshine,
    Damn sure better than rain.
    Hey now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometime,
Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

  • Nobody left to run with anymore.
Nobody left to do the crazy things we used to do before.
Nobody left to run with anymore.

I'm gonna hit the road, adios my friend.
Go someplace and start all over again.

    • No One to Run With, written by Dickey Betts, John Prestia

Hittin' the Note (2003)[edit]

  • Rain falls on a sleepy southern town,
The midnight moon was burnin' brightly.
Memories rushin' on a river, oh Lord!
As you lay sleeping without me.
Highway songs keep me rollin' on,
    Still I long for you.
Desdemona, I will be your only one again.
    • Desdemona, written by Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes
  • You're the life of the party,
Everybody's host, and still you need somewhere you can hide.
All your good time friends, and your fair-weather has-beens, God knows, were just along for the ride.
You think you're a survivor, but boy, you'd better think twice.
No one rises up for nothing, so step up and pay the price.

'Cause it's the high cost of low living.
At high times, it turned yourself around.
The high cost of low living is bound to put you six feet in the ground.

    • High Cost of Low Living, written by Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes, Norman Anders, Ronnie Burgin
