Underworld is a 2003 action-horror film about the secret history of Vampires and Lycans (an abbreviated form of lycanthrope). It is the first (chronologically, the second) installment in the Underworld series. The main plot revolves around Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire who is a Death Dealer hunting Lycans. She finds herself attracted to a human, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), who is being targeted by the Lycans. After Michael is bitten by a Lycan, Selene must decide whether to do her duty and kill him or go against her clan and save him.

Selene[edit]

  • (Trailer; Voiceover) I am a Death Dealer, sworn to destroy those known as the Lycans. Our war has waged for centuries, unseen by human eyes. But all that is about to change...
  • (Opening Narration; Voiceover) The war had all but ground to a halt in the blink of an eye. Lucian, the most feared and ruthless leader ever to rule the Lycan clan, had finally been killed. The Lycan horde scattered to the wind in a single evening of flame and retribution. Victory, it seemed, was in our grasp, the very Birthright of the Vampires. Nearly six centuries had passed since that night, yet the ancient feud proved unwilling to follow Lucian to the grave. Though Lycans were fewer in number, the war itself had become more perilous, for the moon no-longer held her sway. Older, more powerful Lycans, were now able to change at will. The weapons had evolved, but our orders remained the same: Hunt them down and kill them off, one by one. A most successful campaign. Perhaps too successful... For those like me, a Death Dealer, this signaled the end of an era. Like the weapons of the previous century, we, too, would become obsolete... Pity; because I lived for it!
  • (Lays down one of the Lycans new guns on Kahn's workbench) We have a Serious Problem!
  • (Voiceover: Reads up on 'The Fall of Lucian and his Army') Of the scores of Brave Souls who entered Lucian's fortress, a single Vampire survived: Kraven, who was richly rewarded for not only setting the great blaze, but for returning with evidence of the Lycan Master's demise: The branded skin, cut from Lucian's very arm.
  • (Voiceover) To my knowledge, a Awakening has never been attempted by one such as myself: The Elders-alone hold the power to organize their thoughts and memories into a single, cohesive vision; a detailed record of their reign. I can only hope Viktor will hear my plea...
  • (Selene's Blood Memory Message to Viktor) Please forgive me, but I desperately need your guidence. I apologise for breaking the Chain, and Awakening you a head of schedule, but I fear we may all be in grave danger. Especially you, My Lord, if left in you weakened state: For I believe that Lucian is alive and well. Here, now, in this very city, preparing to hit us during the Awakening ceramony. Even more disturbing, is that if I am correct, then it would mean that Kraven is in-league with him.
  • It wasn't the Lycans... it was you!?
  • How could you bear my trust... knowing that you killed my family?
  • And the life of your daughter? Your own flesh and blood!?
  • (Voiceover) Though I cannot predict the future, the consequences of this night will reverberate through the halls of both Great Covens for many years to come. Two Vampire Elders have been slain, one by my own hand. Soon, Marcus will take the throne, and a tide of Anger and Retribution will spill out into the night. Differences will be set aside. Allegiances will be made. And soon, I will become the hunted.

Michael[edit]

  • What the Fuck is going on!?
  • (To Selene) Stop the car. (Selene looks at him, but ignores him looking back to the road. Michael leans in closer and speaks louder) Stop the car.
  • (With a gun being held in his face, keeps his hands up) Okay. Okay. Alright. But you've lost a lot of blood. If you don't stop the car, your gonna get us both killed. (Selene still keeps driving) I'm not screwing around!
  • (Into an intercom) Selene! I wanna speak with Selene!
  • (From an intercom) What the hell is going-on! What's happening to me!?
  • Why!? Who are you people!?
  • (Sarcastically) And if you bit me, what, I'd become a Vampire instead?
  • I'm seeing these things, these hallucinations...
  • Why do you hate them so much?
  • ...I tried to swerve, but he hit us anyway. (Looks at Selene, before looking forward) He sent us into the oncoming lane. When I came to, I... I realized that part of the engine was in the front seat, and she was pinned there, six inches from me... in this horrible position. I think she was in shock, she just... kept asking me over and over again if I was alright. (Looks at Selene again before looking away) She was more worried about me. (Pauses for a moment) You know, if I'd known then what I know now, I could have saved her... there is no doubt in my mind about that. Instead, she died right there, not two minutes before the ambulence arrived. After that, I didn't see any reason to stick around. I spent a summer here with my grandfather, when I was a kid. So, after I got my degree, I just... I took off. I came over here to... move on, to forget. (Looks at Selene again before looking away again) It seemed like a good idea at the time...
  • Who started the War?
  • I'm not staying here alone.
  • No, I wanna go with you.
  • (To Lucian) I need to go! I need to get back...
  • (To Lucian) They forced you to watch her die... Sonja... That's what started this war... I saw it happen as if I were there...
  • I know what started the War.

Lucian[edit]

  • You're acting like a pack of rabid dogs! And that, gentlemen, simply will not do. Not if you expect to defeat the vampires on their own ground. Not if you expect to survive at war!
  • (A thought strikes him) The Vampires didn't realize you were following a Human, did they, Raze?
  • (Angryly to Raze) Must I do everything myself?
  • Hello, Michael.
  • (To Singe) Relax, Old Friend, I've tasted his flesh. Soon, he will be a Lycan. Soon, he will come looking for us!
  • (Has a vice-like grip on Kraven's throat) Carm yourself, Kraven! (Squeezes harder, before releasing Kraven) The human doesn't concern you. Besides, I've lain low for quite long enough.
  • You just concentrate on your part. Remember, I've bled for you once already. Without me, you'd have nothing! You'd be nothing!
  • (To Michael) You've given an enzyme, to stop the Change. It may take a while for the... groggyness to dissapate.
  • (To Michael, as he wakes) I really must appologise. (About Taylor) He's in desperate need in a lesson in manners. Speaking of manners, where are mine, forgive me; I'm Lucian...
  • There's no going back. There's no going anywhere. The Vampires will kill you on sight, just for being one of us. (Reiterates) You are one of us...!
  • (To Michael) We were slaves once. The daylight guardians of the vampires. I was born into servitude. Yet I harbored them no ill will. Even took a vampire for my bride. It was forbidden, our union. Viktor feared a blending of the species. Feared it so much he killed her. His own daughter... Burnt alive for loving me... This is his war. Viktor's; and he's spent the last 600 years exterminating my species.
  • (To Kraven) The Council has been destroyed. Soon, you will have it all; both Great Covens, and an Iron-Clad Peace Treaty with the Lycans, whom, I trust will not be forgotten, when the spoils are tabulated...
  • Where the hell is Raze?
  • I guess it never occurred that you might actually have to bleed to pull-off this little coup!
  • Don't even think about leaving!
  • You may have killed me, 'Cousin', but my will is done, regardless!

Kraven[edit]

  • You expect me to believe that some mangy animal came up with a bullet specifically engineered to kill Vampires.
  • You know I was planning on having you at my side, this evening.
  • If you ask me, you take this 'Warrior' business far too seriously.
  • What's the point of being immortal, if you deny yourself the simple pleasures in life.
  • Put on something elegant, and be quick about it.
  • Other than food, why would Lycans stalk a Human?
  • (Angryly) How could you do this to me? Embarrass me like this? The entire Coven knows that I have plans for us!
  • (Angryly) You'll go before Viktor, and tell him exactly what I tell you to. From here-on-out, you'll do as I say, is that, in any way, unclear?
  • Should have listened to me, and stayed out of this; now you'll be lucky if I can convince the Council to spare your life.
  • Mark my words, soon, you'll be seeing things my way.
  • (Adressing Soren) Nobody opens this door, understood? Can't afford to have my 'future queen' run off with that Lycan again!
  • (To Kahn) I want! That Lycan's head! On a plate!
  • Silver Nitrate; bet you weren't expecting that?!
  • Let me tell you a little something about your beloved Dark Father: He's the one that killed your family, not the Lycans. Never could follow his own rules, said he couldn't abide the taste of lifestock, so every once in a while, he'd go out and gorge himself on human blood. I kept the secrets, cleaned up the mess; but it was he who crept room to room, dispatching everyone close to your heart. But when he got to you, he just couldn't bear the thought of draining you dry. You, who reminded him so much of his precious Sonja, the daughter he condemned to death.

Kahn[edit]

  • (Scrutinizes the Lycans new ammunition) I'll have to run a few tests, but it's definitly a irradiated fluid of some sort.
  • Daylight, harnessed as a weapon.
  • (Gives his opinion) No, I'm betting it's military. Something they stole, some kind of high-tech tracer round.
  • Kraven's right, Selene; there's not been a den of that magnitude in centuries, not since the days of Lucian.
  • (Sees Selene shooting up a statue head, rather aggressively) I sure hope you never get pissed-off at me.
  • The primeter sensor's been tripped. We're locking down the mansion.

Erika[edit]

  • (Sees her chance, slinks-up to Kraven and looks him in the eye) I'd never dream of treating you like that.
  • It's a waste of time, you know.
  • Well, I seriously doubt Viktor'd want you freezing to death down here, stareing at his tomb for hours on end.
  • (Changes subject) Come-on, we need to get you ready.
  • For the party. Amelia's envoy will be here any minute.
  • (To Selene) I'm not; I'm helping Me!
  • (Walks up to Kraven) It's Selene, she's escaped. To go to him, to Michael.

Viktor[edit]

  • What's... this... ruckus?
  • Do you know why I have been awakened, Servant?
  • You must let her come to me. We have much to discuss, Selene and I. She has shown me a great many disturbing things. Things that will be dealt with, soon enough.
  • This Covern has grown weak, decadent. Perhaps I should have left someone else in charge of my affairs!
  • (To Selene, about Kraven's infatuation with her) It is the oldest story in the book; he desires the one thing he cannot have!
  • Incoherent thoughts and images, nothing more. Which is precisely why the Awakening is performed by an Elder. You do not possess the neccesary skills!
  • The Chain has never been broken, not once, not in fourteen centuries, not since we Elders first began to leapfrog through time: One Awake, Two Asleep; that's the way of it. It is Marcus' time to rule, not mine!
  • (To Kraven) Your incompetence is becoming most... taxing!
  • Yes, I have taken from you, but I have given so much more. Is it not a fair trade, the life I have granted you? The gift of immortality?
  • I loved my daughter! But the abomination growing in her womb was a betrayal of me, and of the Coven!
  • I did what was necessary to protect the species! As I am forced to do yet again!
  • (Has Michael in a chokehold) (Hisses) Time to Die!

Others[edit]

  • Raze: BLOOOOODS!!!
  • Raze: We were ambushed: Death Dealers, three of them.
  • Raze: AG rounds. High content. Preventing him from making the Change.
  • Soren: (To Kraven) See for yourself.
  • Soren: Son-of-a-Bitch!
  • Mason: (To Kahn) False alarm. Dogs would have been all over it if anything had gotten even near that fence!
  • Mason: (To Kahn) You got it.
  • Mason: (Into a Cellphone) I need to speake to Kahn.

(Film)

Dmitri: Our Noble Houses may be separated by a Great Ocean, but we are equally commited to the survival of the Bloodline. And when Amelia arrives, in just two days time, to Awaken Marcus, we will once again be united, as a single Coven.

(The Vampires attending the party raise a toast.)

(Novelization)

Dmitri: Our Noble Houses may be separated by a Great Ocean, but we are equally commited to the survival of our sacred Bloodlines. When the illustrious Amelia, whom I have the honor of serving, arrives to to Awaken the slumbering Marcus, in just two nights' time, we will once again be united, as a single Coven. (Raises a toast) Vitam et Sanguinem (lit. Life and Blood).

(The Vampires attending the party raise a toast.)

Dialogue[edit]

Kahn: (Scrutinizes the Lycans new ammunition) I'll have to run a few tests, but it's definitly a irradiated fluid of some sort.
Selene: (Kahn has just confirmed her worst fear) Ultraviolet ammunition!
Kahn: Daylight, harnessed as a weapon.

(Kraven arrives in the chamber with Soren, his men, and Erika, and butts-into the conversation.)

Kraven: You expect me to believe that some mangy animal came up with a bullet specifically engineered to kill Vampires.
Kahn: (Gives his opinion) No, I'm betting it's military. Something they stole, some kind of high-tech tracer round-
Selene: Look, I don't care where they got these things; Rigel is dead, and Nathaniel could still be out there. We should gather the Death Dealers, and back down there in force!
Kraven: Absolutely not, not now, not for a random incursion. The Awakening is only a few days off, and this house is in a state of Unrest as it is.
Selene: (Not believing what Kraven is saying) Random!? They opened fire on us in full view of the public; and from the commotion I heard down in that tunnel-
Kraven: -You said it yourself, you didn't actually see anything?
Selene: Look, I know what I heard, and I know what my gut tells me, and I am telling you that there could be dozens of Lycans down there, who knows, maybe more, hundreds.
Kraven: We've hunted them down to the brink of extinction.

(Faces away from Kraven, folding her arms, not letting go of her concerns.)

Kahn: Kraven's right, Selene; there's not been a den of that magnitude in centuries, not since the days of Lucian.
Selene: I know that, Kahn, but I'd rather have you prove me wrong by checking it out.

(Kahn looks to Kraven for permission.)

Kraven: (Plays along) Very-well. Have your men tighten things up, I'll have Soren put together a search team.
Selene: (Hears this) No, I want to lead the team, myself.
Kraven: Absolutely not! Soren will handle it. (To Kahn, mockingly) Hundreds, really.
Selene: (At Kraven's comment) Viktor would believe me! (Storms-off)
Erika: (Sees her chance, slinks-up to Kraven and looks him in the eye) I'd never dream of treating you like that.
Kraven: (Amused by Erika's little declaration) Of course you wouldn't. Now run-along and make sure she's ready and dressed for the arrival of the guests.

(Erika looks angery and disappointed, but nods and obeys.)

(Selene is outside-looking-in into the Elders' Chamber-&-Crypt, looking-in onto the cover of Viktor's crypt. Erika comes to get Selene ready for the reception on Kraven's orders.)

Erika: It's a waste of time, you know.
Selene: What is?
Erika: Well, I seriously doubt Viktor'd want you freezing to death down here, stareing at his tomb for hours on end.
Selene: (In agreement) No, he'd want the Death Dealers out there, right now, scouring every inch of the city. (Changes subject) Kraven, (says name like it was a bad taste in her mouth), I'll never understand why Viktor left him in-charge; he's a bureaucrat, not a warrior.
Erika: (Changes subject) Come-on, we need to get you ready.
Selene: For what?
Selene: For the party. Amelia's envoy will be here any minute. (Leaves)

Kraven: (About the fact that Selene is still not ready for his party) You know I was planning on having you at my side, this evening.
Selene: (Not taking her eyes from the digital pictures on her computer screen) Take Erika, she's dying to be at your side.

(Kraven starts to get fustrated that he's not getting the responses from Selene that he wanted, as Selene pays more attention to what she's doing on her laptop, and not to him.)

Kraven: If you ask me, you take this 'Warrior' business far too seriously. You can't undo the past, no-matter how many you kill. And besides, what's the point of being immortal, if you deny yourself the simple pleasures in life.
Selene: (Tries to, instead, bring her concerns to his attention) Do you see this Human?
Kraven: What of him?
Selene: I can't be positive, but I'm begining to think the Lycan's-

(Noises outside the mansion draws Kraven's attention away from Selene's words.)

Kraven: Blast. (Sees that Amelia's envoy's limo has arrived, his party is about to begin, dismisses Selene's claims.) Put on something elegant, and be quick about it.
Selene: Kraven, I'm serious. I think they were trying to follow him.
Kraven: (Looks back at her as though she said something stupid) Other than food, why would Lycans stalk a Human?

(Naked, Raze arrives at the Lycan's den, and into Singe's lab-&-infirmery, carrying Trix, and puts him on a operating table.)

Raze: We were ambushed: Death Dealers, three of them.
Lucian: And the candidate?
Raze: We lost him.
Lucian: (Angerly) You lost him!?
Singe: (Rips open Trix's shirt) Look at this mess.
Raze: AG rounds. High content. Preventing him from making the Change.

(Singe extracts one silver bullet, but his prognosis isn't good, he declares Trix as good as dead.)

Singe: No use taking out the rest; silver's penitrated his organs. Regeneration's impossible at this point. (Sees to Raze instead) Lets take these out. (Readies a tool to extract Selene's throwing stars.) Relax.

(Raze cries-out as the first star is pulled out.)

Lucian: (A thought strikes him) The Vampires didn't realize you were following a Human, did they, Raze?
Raze: No. (Thinks about it as Singe pulls out the next star, Raze cries out again) I mean, I don't think so.
Lucian: You don't think, or you don't know?
Raze: I'm not sure. (Cries out as Singe pulls out the third star)

(Their attention is suddenly drawn towards a signal for Singe's next blood test on one of their captives. The solution mixes with the blood sample, turning black. )

Singe: (Reporting his findings) Negative. Really must have a look at this Michael.
Lucian: (Angryly to Raze) Must I do everything myself? (Leaves.)

(Angry at disappointing Lucian, Raze yanks out the fourth and final throwing star himself, crying out louder than before.)

Adam Lockwood: (About Michael) He comes in. He does his job. And then he goes home: Other than that, I really don't know what to tell you. Interns, pretty-much, work round the clock. We don't have much of a life.
Pierce-&-Taylor: You know where we can find him?
Adam Lockwood: No. Errrm, you could try him at home. Or you'll have to wait 'till he gets back. (Something occurs to him about them that makes him nervous) He's not in some kind of trouble, is he?

(Pierce-&-Taylor say nothing.)

(Michael arrives back at his appartment, just in time to hear the phone ringing, and to see that his door has been kicked in. The machine picks-up.)

Michael's Answering Machine: Hi, this is Michael, I'm not in right now, please leave a message: BEEP.
Adam Lockwood: Hi, Michael, it's Adam. The police were just at the hospital, looking for you. They were convinced you were involved with a... a shootout. Hey, I told them that there'd be no-way you 'd be involved with something like that. But they're looking for you, right now-

(Suddenly, Michael is pinned up against the wall, his feet dangleing afoot off of the floor, with one hand by the woman from the subway.)

Selene: (Looking him right in the eye) Why are they after you!?

(Right then, loud howls and crashes come from above, from the ceiling around them. Plaster from the ceiling comes away. Selene drops Michael down on the ground, draws her gun and opens fire at the ceiling.)

(Selene and Michael have just managed to escape from Lucian. Lucian managed to stab Selene in the right shoulder with a large blade. Michael notices that she is losing blood quickly. Selene starts to struggle to stay awake.)

Michael: Stop the car. (Selene looks at him, but ignores him looking back to the road. Michael leans in closer and speaks louder) Stop the car.
Selene: (Slams Michael back with her right arm, and, in the blink on an eye, draws her gun on him with the same arm) Back-off.
Michael: (With a gun being held in his face, keeps his hands up) Okay. Okay. Alright. But you've lost a lot of blood. If you don't stop the car, your gonna get us both killed. (Selene still keeps driving) I'm not screwing around-
Selene: -Neither am I. (Puts her gun away) Now, shut-up and hold on, I'll be fine.

(Selene speeds up, but dispite her assertion, her blood loss and her exertions get to her. she passes out at the wheel.)

Michael: (Sees her pass out, grabs the wheel) Shit!

(The car is going too fast. Given the speed they were going at, Michael is unable to stop the car from being flipped over into the river. Michael's head hits the passenger's side window hard, cracking it. The car reaches the bottom of the river. At the bottom of the river, seeing where they are, and that they are taking-in water, Michael grabs Selene, takes her gun, and shoots out the driver's side window. He swims the both of them to the surface, and over to underneith a pier.)

(Kraven meets with Lucian, in Lucian's limo.)

Kraven: Engaging with Death Dealers in public, and now she's chasing around after some human, that is not what I had in mind! You were told... you were told to set up shop and lay low-
Lucian: (Pounces, grabbing Kraven by the throat) Calm yourself, Kraven. (Gives Kraven's throat an extra squeeze and smiles.) The human doesn't concern you. Besides, I've laid low for long enough. (Lets go of Kraven's throat)
Kraven: Just keep your men at bay, Lucian, at least for the time being. Don't force me regret our arrangement.
Lucian: You just concentrate on your part. Remember, I've bled for you once already. Without me, you'd have nothing. You'd be nothing!

Michael: ...And ever since he bit me, I've been... I've been having these... hallucinations, I've been having these... delusions. (Adam treats Michael's head) All I know's that it feels as though my... skull is... is... splitting in half...
Adam: Okay, so; a full-grown man... bit you?

(Michael pulls down the left side of his t-shirts collar to show Adam the bite. Adam leans in to take a closer look.)

Adam: Jesus! Michael, are you sure this wasn't a dog?-
Michael: (Grabs Adam's arm and looks him right in the eye) -I said it was a man! It was a man!
Adam: Okay, okay, I got it.
Michael: (Still looking Adam right in the eye) He was after me! And that woman... the woman from the subway-
Adam: -What woman-?
Michael: (Starts yelling, fustrated) -Haven't you been listening to me; she took me-
Adam: (Panicky) -Alright-!
Michael: (Yelling) -Hostage-!
Adam: -Alright! Alright! (slightly panicked) I'm... just... please... (vaguely, pulling off his gloves) I'm gonna help you get this all sorted out... Alright, I'm gonna be right back-

(Irratic, Michael grabs Adam's arm to stop him from leaving.)

Adam: (Panting, looks Michael right in the eye) (Warningly) Let go, Michael... Let go...

(Michael carms down and lets go of Adam's arm.)

Adam: Just carm down... Okay? I'm gonna be back in a minute. (Humors Michael) That's a promise... (Pats Michael on the right shoulder) Alright?

(Michael tries to calm down and hold himself together as Adam leaves the room. Michael gets up and paces uncomfortabley, trying to ease off some of his discomfort. As he looks out of the door's window, he sees Adam returning with two men in police uniforms. Michael understandably panics and flees.)

Selene: You can never come here again. They'll kill you. Do you understand?
Michael: Why!? Who are you people!?

(Selene look between him and the road. She reaches over and pulls back his t-shirt coller, seeing for herself the bite mark of a Lycan. Selene starts to worry/dread about the implications of whats going on.)

Selene: Whether you like it or not, your in the middle of of a war thats been rageing for the better part of a thousand years; a Blood feud between Vampires and Lycans. (Seeing Michael's incomprehension on his face , she reiterates.) Werewolves.

(Michael's mind flashes over all the crazy things he's seen over the past 48-hours. Selene drives on.)

Selene: Consider yourself lucky; most people die within an hour of being bitten by an immortal. The Virus' we transmit are deadly.
Michael: (Sarcastically) And if you bit me, what, I'd become a Vampire instead?
Selene: No. You'd die. No-one's survived a bite from both species. And by-rights, I'd stop the car and kill you myself right now-
Michael: -Then why are you helping me?-
Selene: (Raises voice) -I'm not! I track-down and kill your kind. My only interest is finding out why Lucian wants you so badly.

Viktor: Do you know why I have been awakened, Servant?
Kraven: No, my lord, but I'll soon find out-
Viktor: -You mean - when you find her?
Kraven: (Keeping his head down) Yes, my lord.
Viktor: You must let her come to me. We have much to discuss, Selene and I. She has shown me a great many disturbing things. Things that will be dealt with, soon enough. This covern has grown weak, decadent. Perhaps I should have left someone else in charge of my affairs. (Strains to find order in Selene's memories.) Still, her memories are chaotic. There is no sense of time...
Kraven: Please, my lord, let me summon assistance. You are in need of rest.
Viktor: (Indignant at Kraven's implication) I have rested enough! What you will do is summon Marcus.
Kraven: (Looks at Marcus' crypt cover) But he still slumbers, my lord. Amelia and the council members are arriving tomorrow night to awaken Marcus... not you, my lord. You have been awakened a full century ahead of schedule...

(Selene and Michael arrive at an abandoned brownstones. Michael follows Selene inside and up the staircase.)

Michael: I'm seeing these things, these hallucinations...
Selene: They're not hallucinations, they're memories; you've been bitten, his memories have been passed down to you.

(They reach the top floor. Selene heads through a pair of doors into a disused room, and through another set of doors into a refurbished room with appliences, tools and chains.)

Selene: (About the room) This one of the places we use for interrogation, it should be safe.

(The Lights come on automatically. Selene goes over to the window and triggered the mechanized blinds to open. Selene goes over to the fridge, she extracts one of the blood bags from inside and tosses it over to Michael, as she goes to close the door behind them.)

Michael: (Reads the logo on the blood bag) Ziodex Industries.
Selene: We own it. First things, synthetic plasma, now this. Once it's approved, it should be our newest cash crop.
Michael: (Realizes what he's holding) It's cloned blood.

(As Selene checks the security system, Michael looks around the room, taking in the surgical tools, bloodied weapons and used bullets.)

Michael: What are these for?
Selene: (Sees what he's gesturing to) Lycans are allergic to silver; if we don't get our bullets out quickly enough, they end-up dying on us during questioning.
Michael: What do you do with them afterwards?
Selene: We put the bullets back in.

(Selene is standing by the window, on the look-out, while Michael is sitting down.)

Michael: Why do you hate them so much?
Selene: I've already told you, we're at war.
Michael: So your just following orders? (Selene stays silent, looking out the window) Why can't you just answer the question? (Selene remains silent) Fine.
Selene: (Selene begins to recount to Michael the worst night of her life) Something was in the stable, tearing our horses to pieces. I couldn't have saved my Mother, or my Sister; their screams woke me. My Father died outside, trying to fend them off. I stood at my door, about to run to my neices' room when... (The memory of their screams still echoes through her mind after all these years) ...Twin girls, bearly six-years-old, butchered like animals...
Michael: (Dismayed, appalled and saddened by the details) Jesus Christ!
Selene: Next thing I knew, I was in his arms. The war had spilled into our house. He'd been tracking the Lycans for days. He drove them off and saved me.
Michael: Who?
Selene: Viktor; the oldest and strongest of us. That night, he made me a Vampire. He gave the strength to avenge my family. Since then, I've never looked back.

Michael: ...I tried to swerve, but he hit us anyway.
Selene: (Having heard everything) ... And have you, moved on?
Michael: (Looks at Selene) Have you?

(Uncomfortable with this question, Selene turns to look back out the window.)

(Selene is still tanding by the window, on the look-out. Michael is still sitting down.)

Michael: Who started the war?
Selene: They did. Or, at least, that's what we've been led to believe; digging into the past is forbidden. (Notices the time) I should be heading back.
Michael: (Stands up to face her) What about me?
Selene: Viktor will know what to do. I'll come back tomorrow night.
Michael: I'm not staying here alone.
Selene: You will if you want to live.
Michael: No, I wanna go with you.

(After a pause, Selene starts to move closer to Michael, who leans in closer to Selene. their lips meet in a brief, tentative kiss, before Selene moves back, maintaining eye contact with Michael. While he is distracted by Selene, she handcuffs him to the heavy-duty chair bolted to the floor. Taken by surprise, Michael tries to pull his hand away. The chain's length doesn't let him, as Selene moves away to the door.)

Michael: (Upset) Hey, what're you doing?
Selene: (Turns to face him and explains herself, showing no reaction to the kiss they just shared) When the full moon rises tomorrow night, you will Change, you will kill, and you will feed. It's unavoidable. I can't leave you free to roam around, I'm sorry.

(Selene turns to leave, but has a second thought and turns back towards Michael, cocks her gun and ejects the mag, showing him the silver bullets.)

Selene: A single round won't kill you, but the silver should prevent the transformation, at least for a few hours; if I don't return in time, (puts the magazine back in the gun), do yourself a favor, use it.

(Selene leaves Michael with the gun, and leaves the room, closing the doors behind her. Michael watches her go and looks down at the gun. Behind the doors, however, her true feelings about the kiss they just shared written all over her face, more moved then she let on.)

(Selene has arrived back at Ordoghaz brfore the sun can rise, to speak with Viktor. As she makes her way to the Elders' Chamber, she is intercepted by Kraven, who is adament that Selene should not share her suspicions about him with Viktor. He graps her by the arm and drags her into a secluded alcove, as the mansions automated blinds mechanizm closes the all the window blinds to keep out the rising sun.)

Kraven: (Angryly) How could you do this to me? Embarrass me like this? The entire Coven knows that I have plans for us!
Selene: (Taken back by Kraven's 'plans', response angryly) There is no 'us'!
Kraven: (Not listening to her) You'll go before Viktor, and tell him exactly what I tell you to. (Selene looks at him calculatingly, as he continues to rant and rave.) From here-on-out, you'll do as I say, is that, in any way, unclear?

(Selene delivers a palm strike to his face. Kraven drops to his knees, as Selene makes good her escape to meet with Viktor before Kraven can stop her again. Kraven gets back up and follows her, to stop her from reaching Viktor.)

[Selene has entered Viktor's chamber and kneels before him]
Viktor: Come closer, my child.
Selene: I've been lost without you, my Lord; constantly hounded by Kraven and his never-ending infatuation.
Viktor: [chuckles] It is the oldest story in the book; he desires the one thing he cannot have.

(Selene has been ordered by Viktor to be confined to her quarters, to await the arrival of Amelia and the Council, who are due the next night. Selene is publicly escorted by Kraven, Soren and his men. Kraven releases Selene into her room.)

Kraven: Should have listened to me, and stayed out of this; now you'll be lucky if I can convince the Council to spare your life.
Selene: (Parting shot) Tell me, did you have the nerve to cut the skin from his arm, or did Lucian do it for you?
Kraven: Mark my words, soon, you'll be seeing things my way.

(Kraven nods to Soren and his men to close the door and lock Selene inside.)

Kraven: (Adressing Soren) Nobody opens this door, understood? Can't afford to have my 'future queen' run off with that Lycan again.

(Kraven walks away, not noticing that Erika has overheard his words, and is livid that Kraven is, again, choosing Selene over her.)

(The power to the mansion has been cut, Selene's quarters are dark. She sees that the guards under her window are moving towards the estates primeter. Abruptly, her doors open, Erika striding in and throws Selene a Nylon pouch with guns and ammunition.)

Selene: Why are you helping me?
Erika: I'm not. I'm helping me!

(Erika throws Selene a set of car keys. Selene nods her head at Erika for her hekp.)

(The mansions power having been cut (by Erika), the alarms are all going off, and all of the Death Dealers are securing the building. Kraven approachs Kahn while he's patrolling.)

Kraven: What's going on?
Kahn: The primeter sensor's been tripped. We're locking down the mansion.
Erika: (Walks up to Kraven) It's Selene, she's escaped. To go to him, to Michael.
Kraven: (To Kahn) I want! That Lycan's head! On a plate! (Walks away)

(Erika looks down; she still is not getting the response that she wants out of Kraven, to give on Selene.)

[Original Theatrical Cut]
Selene: Now, I want you to tell them exactly what you told me!
[Singe hesitates, so Selene digs her fingers into Singe's wounded shoulder]
Singe: (Cries out in pain) Alright! Alright! For years, we've been trying to combine the bloodlines. And for years, we've failed. It was useless. Even at the cellular level, our species seemed destined to destroy each other; yet the key, we knew, was to locate the rarest of bloodlines; a direct descendant of Alexander Corvinus: Hungarian; a warlord, who came to power in the early seasons of the 5th century, just in time to watch a plague ravage his village. He-alone survived; somehow, his body was able to change the desease, mold it to his benefit. He became the first true immortal.
[Singe hesitates again, so Selene digs her fingers deeper into Singe's wounded shoulder]
Singe: (Cries out) And years later, he fathered at least two children, who inherited this same trait.
Viktor: The Sons of the Corvinus Clan: "One Bitten by Bat, One by Wolf. One to Walk the Lonely Road of Mortality as a Human..." It's a ridiculus legend. Nothing more!
Singe: 'Nothing', that may be, but our species do have a common ancestor.
Viktor: There is a Descendent of Corvinus, lying there, (gestures to the cover of Marcus' tomb), not three feet from you.
Singe: Yes, but he is already a Vampire. We needed a pure source, untainted; an exact duplicate of the original virus, the Corvinus Strain-itself, which we learned was hidden away in the genetic code of his human descendents; passed along, in it's dormant form, down through the ages, to Michael Corvin: His blood allows for a perfect union between our species.
Viktor: There can be no such union. And to speak of it is heresy!
Singe: We'll see; once Lucian ha injected himself-
Viktor: -Lucian is dead!
Singe: (Knowingly) According to whom?

(Viktor and Selene look around to where Kraven was standing, to see that he has already fled the Elders' Chamber.)

[Extended Edition]
Selene: Now, I want you to tell them exactly what you told me!
[Singe hesitates, so Selene digs her fingers into Singe's wounded shoulder]
Singe: (Cries out in pain) Alright! Alright! We've been searching for someone, with a... special trait; a direct descendant of Alexander Corvinus: Hungarian; a warlord, who came to power in the early seasons of the 5th century, just in time to watch a plague ravage his village.
The mutation of the original virus... is directly linked to his bloodline.
Viktor: There is a Descendent of Corvinus, lying there, (gestures to the cover of Marcus' tomb), not three feet from you.
Singe: Yes, but he is already a Vampire. We needed a pure source, untainted; an exact duplicate of the original virus, the Corvinus Strain-itself, which we learned was hidden away in the genetic code of his human descendents; passed along, in it's dormant form, down through the ages, all the way to Michael Corvin. For years, we've been trying to combine the bloodlines. And for years, we've failed. It was useless. Even at the cellular level, our species seemed destined to destroy each other; that is... until we found Michael. The Corvinus Strain allows for a perfect union; a Triple-celled platelet, which holds... unspeakable power!
Viktor: There can be no such union. And to speak of it is heresy!
Singe: We'll see; once Lucian ha injected himself with Michael's blood-
Viktor: -Lucian is dead!
Singe: (Knowingly) According to whom?
(Viktor and Selene look around to where Kraven was standing, to see that he has already fled the Elders' Chamber.)

(Kraven having fled and his guilt having been proven, Viktor approachs Selene.)

Viktor: I can assure you, My Child, Kraven will pay with his life.
Singe: Soon this house will lie in ruins.
Selene: (Cocks her gun at his temple) Not before you!
Singe: No, No, no! Wait! Wait! (To Viktor) You, and you alone, will know the truth of this.

(At Viktor's signal, Selene lowers her gun.)

Singe: If Lucian was able to get his hands on the blood of a Pure-Born, a powerful Elder, like, Amelia, (to Viktor), or yourself, and inject it along with Michael's blood...
Viktor: (Disgusted) Abomination!!!
Singe: (Continues) Half-Vampire! Half-Lycan: But stronger than both!

(Still strapped to an upright examination table, Michael struggles with his bonds. Suddenly, his attention is caught by the approach of transformed Lycan, it's silhouette shown through the covers of the Infirmry-&-Lab. As as it comes closer to the blinds, Michael struggles harder to escape his bond. Suddenly, gunfire rings out, the Werewolf falls throught the blinds, to reveal Selene with a smoking gun. Selene sees Michael and hurries over and starts to shoot off the chains of his handcuffs.)

Selene: I have to get you out here! Viktor's on his way, and he won't be satisfied until every Lycans dead!
Michael: He'll kill you too, just for helping me.
Selene: I know.

(Michael leans forward and kisses Selene. Selene leans into the kiss. The kiss lasts for a matter of moments, before they break apart. Michael and Selene look at each other.)

Michael: (After a pause) I know what started the War...

(Selene and Michael have just stumbled across Kraven hiding away in a room from the battles being fought in the underground tunnels. Kraven sees whos opened the door, sees Selene standing behind Michael, reliazes who Michael is, and, in a fit of jealousy, shoots Michael three times in the chest. Michael falls back to the ground. Selene falls to his side as the silver nitrate starts to flood his system. Kraven walks out of the door to see Selene obvious affection for Michael, becomes more jealous.)

Kraven: (Moves forward to grab Selene's arm.) That's enough! Your coming with me!
Selene: (Hits Kraven's incoming arm away) I only hope I live long enough to see Viktor Choke the life from you!
Kraven: I bet you do. But let me tell you a little something... about your 'Beloved Dark Father': He's the one that killed your family. Not the Lycans. (Leans down) Never could follow his own rules, said he couldn't abide the taste of lifestock, so every once in a while, he'd go out and gorge himself on human blood. I kept his secrets, cleaned up the mess. But it was he, who crept room to room that night, dispatching everyone close to your heart. But when he got to you, he just couldn't bear the thought of draining you dry. You, who reminded him so much of his precious Sonja, the daughter he condemned to death...
Selene: Lies!
Kraven: (Couldn't care less) Believe what you want? Now come on. (Extends his hand) Your place is by my side...

(Selene moves away from Kraven's hand. Kraven doesn't take her repeated rejection well, and cocks his gun.)

Kraven: So be it!

(Before he can fire the gun, Kraven is stopped by a dying Lucian, who he'd shot earlier, grabing him by the ankle. Kraven is merely angryly amused at Lucian's weak attempt to stop him, looks away... only to be stabbed through the leg by Lucian.)

Selene: How could you bear my trust... knowing that you killed my family?
Viktor: Yes, I have taken from you; but I have not given so much more. Is it not a fair trade, the life I have granted? The gift of immortality?
Selene: And the life of your daughter? Your own flesh and blood!?
