Persian proverbs[edit]

You may have made a typo there, if so, feel free to add it back. Sorry about using rollback tool, initially saw numbers and text mixed together, thought it was vandalism. -- Cirt (talk) 19:57, 26 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, no typo and definitely not vandalism. :-) Using "3" as a proxy the letter "ع‎ " ('Ayn) (ععع )is standard practice in transliterations of Farsi (and Arabic), 'Farglish' texting, etc. It's not a letter that exists in the Latin alphabet. Among Farsi or Arabic speakers, 3 is used alone. Here in the English Wikiquote, it is often combined with an "a", "a3". (It can also be an "o," as in Oman عمان.) Sometimes also transliterated "a'a" or " 'a". Most Wikiquote users are not familiar with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) nor its vocabulary, e.g. IPA "voiced pharyngeal fricatives" like ʕ, epiglottals and epiglotto-pharyngeals, approximants, pharyngealized glottal stops, etc. Benefac (talk) 14:20, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
