[edit] Encyclopedists
If you're a fan of the Foundation encyclopedists, you might want to take a look at The Final Encyclopedia by Gordon R. Dickson, which is part of the culmination of Dickson's Childe Cycle, inspired by Robert Browning's Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. In case you haven't read it, the Cycle is a long tale of the social evolution of humanity, in which the Final Encyclopedia plays a major role.
