This came from the quote of the day proposals as: "I want to walk through life, not be dragged through it." ~ Alanis Morissette, but a web search indicated that form exists only here and a very few other sites that could be derived from our example. The far more common form seems to be "I want to walk through life instead of being dragged through it", with many citations (though I have not yet found the original source) and this is what I have used ~ Kalki 23:41, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
