Quotes about
[edit]- Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.

- I often thought I saw a lot of things. Of having had so many of those experiences that my life had exhausted me. Nothing could move me anymore. I was exhausted. This was before I drank absinthe. That juice is distilled from Lucifer's piss. Now I know why Van Gogh cut off his ear and why Toulouse-Lautrec drew little mustachioed dwarves. It wasn't a mental illness, it was absinthe's fault. (p. 221)

- One of the boys tells us about absinthe. He explains that he brought it from Europe because it is illegal in America, it appears to be very strong (80 degrees) and is said to have hallucinogenic properties. I tell him it smells like patchouli and hookah water. (p. 225)
