Season 1
[edit]Pilot [1.01]
[edit]- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: Sometimes, with everything that's happened, I wonder if he really likes me.
- Officer Jon Baker: Who, Getraer?
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: No - God! I know Getraer doesn't like me!
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Just what happens to you out there? You and Jon ride three feet apart, eight hours a day. You respond to the same calls. You stop the same violators. You get into the same situations. Yet, anytime anything happens, it's always your bike that comes back here looking like we ought to give it a funeral.
- Officer Jon Baker: [after Ponch storms out after being reprimanded] Listen, Sarge, I don't want this to sound like a p.r. job, but I mean if you took a closer look at his jacket, maybe... maybe you'd find some citations and recommendations. I mean, the guy's put some righteous criminals behind bars.
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Look, you've had to babysit him for six months now. What is it? His temper? No presence of mind? What?
- Officer Jon Baker: I dunno. Sometimes the guy overdoes a role. Sometimes he doesn't know when to back off. Weird things happen to him. Ya gotta be there. He can't see 'em comin' and once they're there he can't stop them.
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Yeah, well, maybe I should've partnered him with an exorcist.
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: [after Jon and Ponch have successfully maneuvered the crooks into driving to the LA County Jail] Do not pass Go, do not collect two hundred dollars.
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Your first day off probation! Anything happen, Frank?
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: I wrote seven cites, went to the court; uh, booked a drunk judge...
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Mm-hm. And that's it...?
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: And I got a haircut. See?
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: And that's it? Heh... let me try a name on you: Uh, a Mrs. Edna Geller. That mean anything?
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: I knew an Ed Geller once in high school. He still owes me 20 bucks from prom night! [laughs]
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Oh, that's funny. I think you remember Mrs. Geller. She claims you told her to drive down an embankment today.
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: Hey, I can explain that. It's all...
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: I gotta hand it to you, Frank... you covered your tracks like an Apache. But I did some checking: you ordered the tow through a pay phone, not from your bike!
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: Look, Mrs. Geller went down the embankment because she's eight cents short of a dollar; not because I told her to!
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: Listen, I believe you, Frank. The only trouble is, she's related to Bill Geller. Does that name mean anything?
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: I'll take a wild guess: Captain Bill Geller? The big muckety-muck up in Sacramento?
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: The very same. Now, take another wild guess...
- Officer Frank 'Ponch' Poncherello: I think I'm gonna be sick.
- Sgt. Joseph Getraer: [laughs] Would you like to synchronize watches, Ponch?

- Officer Jon Baker: Yeah. He passed motorcycles, but failed public relations.
