Quotes

[edit]
  • “I don’t remember this intense time … And in many ways as a result of everyday Americans, back to back.”
  • “I always go back to the founding fathers, the fact that freedom of the press was put in the First Amendment. That Thomas Jefferson said, ‘If it were left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without government, I should not hesitate to prefer the latter.’ I take that role seriously. … Every day, when I get up at 4:45, I cannot wait to get started on my day … Are we fair? Are we accurate? Are we giving them the truth, day after day after day?”
  • “In 1980 I was a reporter for a small radio station in Albany, N.Y., and somehow talked my way into getting a credential for the Democratic National Convention in New York City … I vividly remember talking to women’s rights activist Bella Abzug. I was 23 years old, but she was probably the first person who ever made me think deeply about the potential power of women in politics, something I’m still reporting on 40 years later.”
