La lentille de Fresnel est une lentille à échelons, composée d'une lentille centrale plan convexe et d'anneaux dioptriques superposés à cet élément et ayant leurs faces intérieures planes. L'ensemble fonctionne comme une lentille de projection de très grandes dimensions, c'est pourquoi ce type de lentille est utilisé pour les phares. Elle transforme les rayons lumineux émis par une source placée en son foyer en faisceau parallèle. (Construction, réglage et essais des instruments d'optique, par M.
