Dansk: Robert G. Ingersoll (1833-1899) var en gudbenådet foredragsholder, og han var sin tids mest beundrede taler, som turnerede hele USA rundt et dusin gange sidst i 1800-tallet. Han havde nationens største tilhørerskare, og ikke mindst hævede han de højeste honorarer. Han fik salene mere end stuvende fulde, og der var faktisk trafikkaos ved indgangene, som måtte styres af politibetjente. Til tider var der 20.000 tilhørere i lokalerne.
