Deutsch: Ausschnitt aus dem Vergil-Mosaik von Hadrumetum.

Das Mosaik stammt aus dem 3. Jahrhundert n.Chr. und wurde im antiken Ort "Hadrumetum" im heutigen Sousse in Tunesien entdeckt. Es ist jetzt im Bardo-Museum in Tunis ausgestellt.
Der Dichter Virgil hält sein Werk "Aeneis" in der Hand. Links steht die Muse "Klio" (Geschichte) und rechts steht die Muse "Melpomene" (Tragödie).

Der Text auf der Schrift lautet folgendermaßen:

SAS MEMORA
QVO NUMINE
LAESO QVIDVE

Das sind die Worte mit denen der zweite Satz seines epischen Meisterwerkes beginnt.
English: The great Latin poet, Virgil, holding a volume on which is written the Aenid. On either side stand the two muses: "Clio" (history) and "Melpomene" (tragedy). The mosaic, which dates from the 3rd Century A.D., was discovered in the Hadrumetum in Sousse, Tunisia and is now on display in the Bardo Museum in Tunis, Tunisia.
Italiano: Mosaico romano rinvenuto a Susa, l'antica Hadrumetum (III sec. d.C.). Virgilio in toga bianca, assiso tra Clio e Melpomene, con in mano un rotulus dell’Eneide, dove si legge dal proemio l'invocazione: «Musa, mihi causas memora, quo numine laeso, / quidve... » (Aen., I, vv. 8-9); Museo nazionale del Bardo, Tunisi.
