Dialogue

[edit]
[Depressed with seeing Helen in a coma and possibly dying, Daniel proposes something to Harry, who just brought up his new project]
Daniel McCormick: I can't watch her die. I want to sleep for a year.
Harry Finley: You've been through a lot.
Daniel: I've thought it through. I've been in the service 12 years. I'm healthy. I've got no family, nowhere to go. I know tests. I know experiments. It's my job. I'm perfect. You know that.
Harry: I don't even know if this thing'll work for a year.
Daniel: Let me do it, please. I can't think anymore. l can't. Until she... Until it's over.
Harry: You said doctors can be wrong.
Daniel: That's true. If she gets better, wake me up.

[Daniel, Claire, and Nat visit Harry Finley's daughter Susan, who tells Daniel her father died years before. Daniel is holding a picture of Helen and a young girl]
Claire Cooper: That's her, isn't it?
Daniel McCormick: Helen.
Claire: Is that your child?
Daniel: No. [leaves for a moment] We were never married.
Susan Finley: [points to girl] That's me in the picture. I was two.
Daniel: [stops] That's impossible. She died before you were born.
Susan: Daniel, Helen's alive!

[Claire is frustrated with the USAF and the FBI chasing McCormick up to the Wings of Freedom 1992 airshow, where he just stole a B-25]
Claire Cooper: Look, he hasn't seen this woman in 50 years! Hasn't he been through enough? You'll get your plane back. Just leave him alone!
USAF Officer: We won't hurt him.
Claire: Then why do you want him??! A cup of coffee? A chat?
Mr Cameron: [intervenes] Excuse me. [gestures to Claire] Walk this way, please. You know how long it takes to get to the next star system? 100 years, and that's the closest one. You can't make that trip without this kind of technology and right now, we're decades behind where Finley got in 1939 and Daniel's the only link between Finley's work and my own.
Claire: That's not true. [later gives Finley's notes] Everything you ever wanted to know about freezing someone.
