    • Translation: The proposal to work in the never-before-seen Khiva women's hospital is a sign of great trust for me. If I, by the blessing of the Hadra [:honorific] Khan, go to Khiva to become a medic, and I'll try to work in favor of my native Muslim people, and try to justify the trust given upon me to by Hadra Khan and his pure-hearted people.

    • Translation: I was born on 12 November 1880, in the small district town of Chimkent. I do not remember it at all, since my father was transferred to the city of Tashkent in January 1881. Since then, I have lived in this city without ever leaving it. My early education was directed by my mother. When I turned nine, I was sent to the local women's gymnasium. I studied eagerly, and the eight years I spent there passed completely unnoticed. Already as a gymnasium student, I decided to devote myself to the medical profession. This decision became even firmer after I often visited the natives and saw how these poor women and their children perished because of the lack of, or too late, medical help. Since December 1900, I have begun studying Latin, and in the spring of this year, I passed the exam.
