  • I entered the seminary at the age of eleven, in 1947 after the war, because they had seen at home that I wanted to study, at that time, in peasant families when a son wanted to study, the parents said this boy had to be a priest or a lawyer. In the seminary we gave sacred plays and since I played dramatic roles, the rector got angry and because people laughed when I said the jokes and so I understood that my vocation was not to be a priest, but to make people laugh.

  • Tenacity, tenacity to the fullest, especially in these times of crisis. Put on your blinders like I did and say "so much so that I don't care": I suffer, I will do many things, but one day I will get to do what I want. And if you want it, you do it.

  • We called her [Lilli Carati] the "velvet doll", because she was small, not so tall and very beautiful. She had a well-made body, she was proportionate, very sensual. [...] When we acted together, she was very young, while I was between thirty and forty. She was not only beautiful, but she was one of the few good actresses of the time. Many of the girls who played those roles were foreigners, they were good, but they had to fight with their tongues. Each had a different kind of sensuality. She spoke well, she was very awake. I think she was also cultured, because she expressed herself correctly, she demonstrated a certain culture.
