Quotes
[edit]- I've always been interested in the world of communication, and journalism in particular, ever since I was at secondary school. I'm drawn to the idea of being able to challenge myself with different communication tools.[1]
- Quoted in Silvia Grassetti, Toffanin, felice di essere giornalista, telegiornaliste.com, June 2006.
- [My first crushes?] I 'd say none, as my father was very protective. In our village, it was customary for boys and groups of boys to ring the intercom to say, 'Come down'. My father would answer, and every time he would say, "Silvia's not here." He wouldn't let me go out. Every now and then, he would let me go to a club, on the condition that he went with me. He would wait for me in the car, locked inside in the car park. There was no point in telling him to go home so I could come back and pick myself up. He wouldn't move from there.
- Quoted in Maria Aiello, Silvia Toffanin, passato di paura. Il retroscena della regina di Verissimo, meteoweek.com, 2 September 2020.

- When I was fourteen, I used the money I earned from my first jobs – photo shoots for local shop catalogues, mainly for ski suits – to buy clothes. My mum must have kept the catalogues. When I left home, I had Claudia Schiffer posters on the wall and soft toys on the bed, and it's all still there. My bedroom is still exactly as it was.
- Sometimes, I feel the tension very strongly. In certain sensitive situations, there is a risk of asking questions that are too 'intrusive'. Sometimes it's better to keep quiet than to say one word too many. When a mother tells you about the loss of a child, or when a woman tells you about her illness, it's impossible for me not to get emotionally involved.
- Personally, I stay away from social media, and I believe it is crucial to teach children from an early age to respect everyone, to teach girls how to defend themselves against harassment, and to tell them that love is, above all, respect.
- "Go and travel," mum used to say. Don't be like me, who stayed here. Just like my father. It was as if he were saying to me: "I taught you how to walk; now it's up to you."

- When I was little, I would blush at the first compliment. I blush much less now, although I can still feel self-conscious in a situation with people I don't know. I get intimidated. I feel pretty, like a normal person. I feel good about myself; I think there are women who are more beautiful. I'm afraid of illness and of the death of the people I love. I'm happy with what I have, with my family, and I thank the Lord for the wonderful children He has given us.
- When I took over Verissimo, it had been presented by Cristina Parodi and Paola Perego, as well as by Brindisi and Corbi. There were comparisons there too, but I don't like them because they make people compete. We'll also try to focus on names linked to current affairs. Otherwise, 'Verissimo' is 'Verissimo'; the format is the same, with interviews and personal stories.
- I'm proud to have been born and raised in the provinces. When you're far from the centre of the world, your desire to achieve things, to grow, and to get away is different. You have a hunger to learn and to travel. Growing up in the provinces helped me realise what was important, but it also gave me the drive to go and do something else. It's no surprise that I dreamed of being a flight attendant.
