Simon Magus
Appearance

Simon Magus, also known as Simon the Magician, was a religious figure whose confrontation with Peter is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 8:9–24}. The act of simony, or paying for position, is named after Simon, who tried to buy his way into the power of the Apostles.
Quotes
[edit]- (Offering money to the apostles) Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.
- Acts of the Apostles 8:19 NKJV.
Quotes about
[edit]Bible
[edit]- But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.” And they heeded him because he had astonished them with his sorceries for a long time. But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.
- Acts 8:9-13 NKJV.
- But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity.”
- Acts 8:20-23 NKJV.
Others
[edit]- Now, at this very minute, another thing is happening which we cannot hear because most paintings do not have a sound-track. Peter is inventing the word "simony" to explain ecclesiastical purchase-power, for which, since his Church later exercised it so expertly, Simon Magus ought to be revered as a patron not a rogue.

- Jackie-Light: Yoo-hoo! Mr. Spring Heel Jack? Excuse me! I must ask you to return to the museum.
- Spring Heel Jack: Simon Magus tried to stop me, he gave me quite a run. But I shall dine on his descendants; one by one by one! [jumps over and grabs both Jackie-Light and Uncle] Are you helping Magus? A relative perhaps? No, I guess the two of you are just a pair of saps.
