This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King page.

This article falls within a proposed limits on quotations policy.

One or more sections of this article use quotes from a film, and as a result, the proposal would set a limitation of five quotes per hour (about one quote every 12 minutes).

If you would like to add another quote to a section, you should consider whether to remove one that is already there in order to keep within the bounds of fair use of copyright material.
For reference, the length of this work is: 251 minutes.

As part of the Wikiquote:Copyright Cleanup Project to avoid violation of copyright laws, this article has been trimmed to its limit of no more than 5 medium-sized quotes per hour of film. Since IMDb lists the length of the extended edition of this movie as 251 minutes, this article is limited to a maximum of 21 quotes of reasonable length. If you would like to add another quote, you must first remove one. Wikiquote's copyright guidlines can be found here and current policy here.

When trimming my methodology was to leave those quotes which had entered popular culture, stood alone, and/or were meaningful without revealing too much of the plot. Debate about the quotes is welcome, but the article cannot be more than 21 quotes, and quotes cannot be more than 10 lines long. -Sketchmoose 17:05, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

blatantly not narsil ??? whats going on there... NonNobisSolum (talk) 02:30, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An image of the sword used in the film to represent Narsil was removed from the commons, and to replace it I used an image of one of the swords most akin to it in lore, and one of those which arguably may have inspired Tolkien's forging of Narsil - Andúril from the imaginative substance of such weapons of various legends. I chose an image of Joyeuse, said to be partially composed of the Holy Lance, and primarily of the same substance as Durendal the sword of Roland, and Curtana, the Sword of Mercy, which was said to have inscribed upon it: "My name is Cortana, of the same steel and temper as Joyeuse and Durendal." These were the closest replacements to stand in for the film's rendition of such a sword which I could locate at this time. ~ Kalki·· 10:44, 18 February 2012 (UTC) + tweaks[reply]
