That Awkward Moment (released as Are We Officially Dating?) is 2014 romantic comedy film about three best friends in New York City who make a pact to stay single after one of them goes through a break.

[edit]- Jason: (voiceover) It’s 2:15 in the morning in the middle of February. I’ve been sitting on a park bench for about 4 hours. I’m fucking freezing. (A man named Jason is sitting on the park bench feeling lonely) Why am I sitting here? Why am I still sitting on this bench? You know what? It’s probably best if I rewind, if I back up and explain. Every relationship arrives at a critical moment, a juncture between moving forward and moving on. I call that moment the “so”.
- Ellie: So… Where is this going, then?
- Jason: I think you’re like… I-I think you’re amazing. I think you’re an amazing girl… (pause) I’m think you’re an amazing person.
- Ellie: No, I’m breaking up with you. I have to.
- Jason: Breaking up?
- Ellie: I’m sorry, Jason, I need somebody who’s ready. I need somebody who doesn’t drink coffee out of a cereal bowl.
- Jason: What?
- Ellie: And has a bed frame.
- Jason: (voiceover) I wasn’t confused because she was breaking up with me.
- Ellie: I’m so late for work.
- Jason: (voiceover) I was confused because I had no idea we were dating.
(Jason tries to speak to her but she does not listen)
- Jason: I’m not even close to the guy you need, to the guy you deserve. I’m… I’m so sorry that I can’t be that guy.
(He begins to hug Ellie)
- Jason: (voiceover) In her defence, we’d been having sex once a week for 6 weeks.
- Ellie: (tearfully) I’m so late for work.
- Jason: (voiceover) But in my defence, that’s a hook-up approaching the seeing stage.
- Ellie: I’m sorry, Jason.
- Jason: No. I understand… I understand.
- Jason': (voiceover) And what I understood was, at that moment we were definitely not dating.
