[edit]- [to Cathy] That's Beasley. He's so low, when they bury him they're gonna have to dig up.
- [to Cathy] Oh, boy, men really have this game beat. For 2,000 years we've had their children, washed their clothes, cooked their meals and cleaned their houses. And what did they give us in return? The right to smoke in public. We sold out for a cigarette — and you don't even smoke!
- [to Cathy] Now, the way I see it, there are just so many jobs for girls who can operate computing machines. Now, the next job you get, you're gonna listen to me. You don't comb your hair, no make-up, you wear military heels, you remind them of their wives. They figure this they can get at home so they leave you alone.
- When a girl gets to be my age, and still isn't married, you either philosophize or get arrested.
- He's not worth the trouble. Does a snake know he's a snake? He crawls on his stomach and thinks he's a king. Right?
- Some guys ride the subways pinching girls, he works out of a limousine. But a pincher is a pincher.

[edit]- The Four Horsemen now have a riding companion. There's War, Famine, Death, Pestilence, and Miss Timberlake!
- [to Roger] Now you have plenty of friends. Find her a husband. A simple, dull, unimaginative man who'll smile tolerantly when he comes home from work and learns she's misplaced the children.
- She destroys everything she touches. Why doesn't she get married? Only a husband is equipped to take such a beating!
- Perhaps I can induce a friend to take us for a cruise around the Greek islands. That's the only way to see the Greek Islands — slowly, by boat. They're like fine paintings — you mustn't rush up to them.
- I know a restaurant in Paris where you can get some marvellous French food.
- Cathy, you have rare qualities. You're direct, sincere, uncomplicated. You're the type of woman who brings out the worst in a man — his conscience.
- A man's conscience is generally in direct opposition to his best interests.
Dialogue
[edit]- Beasley: Oh! Well, Miss Timberlake, back again for a little of the taxpayers' money, hmm? So did you work last week?
- Cathy: No.
- Beasley: Are you available for work?
- Cathy: Yes.
- Beasley: Did you turn down any jobs?
- Cathy: No.
- Beasley: Are you busy tonight?
- Cathy: Yes.
- Beasley: If, in our opinion, the applicant hasn't exercised proper diligence in seeking employment, we can withhold payment of checks... Perhaps tomorrow night? There's a wonderful little diner round the corner from where I live and after dinner we could, uh, well... perhaps...
- Cathy: Go up to your apartment?
- Beasley: Well, I, uh...
- Cathy: If you want me to go up to your apartment, come out and ask. That way I can think about it and make a decision.
- Beasley: Would you like to stop off at my place?
- Cathy: May I have my check?
- Beasley: Oh. Of course. Well?
- Cathy: I would enjoy going out with you, Mr Beasley... if I didn't find you so personally distasteful. You're a sneaky, crude, offensive man. That's just how I feel. I'm sure there are hundreds of girls who admire those qualities.
- Cathy: [drunk] Do you like the way I walk?
- Shayne: Poetry in motion.
- Cathy: I learned when I was a baby, been walking for years.
- Shayne: Why would she go away with someone like that?
- Roger: Who knows? He's a man and she's a woman.
- Shayne: That's the most dangerous combination to turn loose in a motel.
- Roger: It upsets you, doesn't it? The puppet master ran across a puppet who won't perform, she cuts all his strings. When she sent this back she become a symbol of hope to all of us who sold out for that touch of mink.
- Shayne: Roger!
- Roger: You give us good salaries, paid vacations, medical insurance, old age pensions. You take away our problems and act like you've done us a favor. Well, you haven't. We enjoyed our problems and someday there's going to be an uprising and the masses will regain the misery they're entitled to!
- Shayne: Neurotics of the world unite! You have nothing to lose but your psychiatrist! Roger, I flew 800 miles to a tropical paradise to drink hot milk and butter. I spent half the night playing gin rummy with a bookie from Detroit. It was not a memorable evening. Now, if you're not out of here in five seconds, I'll raise your salary.
- Roger: You're just sadistic enough to do that.
- Shayne: And if Miss Timberlake is your symbol of hope, I suggest you get together with her. You, she, and Dr Gruber will make a lovely couple.
- Cathy: I'm unstable. What kind of mother would I make for our children?
- Shayne: Well we'll try three or four; if that doesn't work out, we'll breed poodles.
- Roger: Good morning, good morning. It's a great day out.
- Shayne: God, you're very happy, Roger. You'd better check that with Dr. Gruber, it might be something serious.
- Roger: I had a wonderful night's rest. You know the trouble I have sleeping? Well, I've solved it. Just before you go to bed you put three tranquilizers in a jigger of brandy and you drink it. You still can't sleep but you're so relaxed that you don't worry about it. It was exhilarating.
- Shayne: Fancy that. And some people just go to sleep and never know what they're missing.
- Cathy: [in a hurry] Connie, this is terribly important to me. I've got to prove to him that I'm a woman!
- Connie: [calls after her] Well, there are easier ways to do it. Send him your birth certificate!
- Connie: Cathy, your problem is how to keep your honor and your job at the same time. You know, men take one look at you and suddenly their wives just don't understand them.
- Cathy: I've never done anything to encourage them.
- Connie: You don't have to, nature did it for you. Jell-o?
- Cathy: There are few other things I'd do too if I weren't a lady.
- Roger: This is no time to think of sex.
- Roger: The minute I saw her, I knew this was no ordinary woman.
- Shayne: She proved that all right.
- Roger: Something about her: purity, innocence, honor.
- Shayne: All virtues that drive a man to drink.
- Roger: It's a victory for the little people. How often does the sparrow down the hawk? The Ace! The Baron von Richthofen of the boudoir shot down over Bermuda.
- Philip: Well, it had to happen sooner or later.

Quotes about That Touch of Mink
[edit]- A new film featuring my favorite female star, whose recent circus musical excess stunned and overwhelmed me, is opening shortly at one of the downtown movie palaces. I must somehow get to see it. Only my wagon stands in the way. Her new film is billed as a "sophisticated" comedy in which she must certainly reach new heights of perversion and blasphemy.
