The Frog and the Ox (1955 film)

The Frog and the Ox is a 1955 animated short film based on the fable by Aesop, directed by Clyde Geronimi, and produced by Walt Disney Productions. It stars the voice talents of Bill Thompson and Ted Cassidy and narrated by Bill Thompson. In this Disney adaptation of the fable with parts that foreshadows those of the Winnie the Pooh cartoons, two little frogs are playing out in an open meadow, until they run into an ox, who is peacefully chewing on some grass and minding his own business, so they ran to their pond and tell their father about what they saw just by talking to him in unison.

Dialogue

Narrator: One day, two little frogs were hopping in the meadow when they saw an ox. They were startled at the size of the huge beast, and they hurried home to tell their father.

Little Frogs: [in unison] Oh, Father, we have just seen a huge monster with sharp horns, and a long tail!

Old Frog: Was he as big as me?

Narrator: said the Old Frog.

Little Frogs: [in unison] Oh, yes, Father! Much bigger!

Narrator: Then the Old Frog puffed himself up.

Old Frog: Bigger than I am now?

Little Frogs: [in unison] Oh, yes, Father! Even bigger!

Narrator: So, the Old Frog puffed himself bigger and bigger.

Old Frog: Bigger than this?

Little Frogs: [in unison] Yes, Father! A great deal of bigger!

Narrator: Then he puffed, and he puffed, and he puffed, until he burst. Self-conceit leads to self-destruction.
