Categories[edit]

I must have gotten those categories from wikipedia.org. So why are the categories here so limited? Do you know how we get the categories expanded, to make them more useful? --Paul H. Masters 15:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The reason what most of the categories that you added exist on Wikipedia but not on Wikiquote is because there's a lot more activity and a lot more pages at Wikipedia than there are here. As with most things Wiki, the way to get more categories is usually to create them, but we typically try to avoid this until there are a couple of pages that could fit the category, as a category with only a single page in it isn't very helpful. (Or, if a similar or likely parent category already exist, I'll sometime use that; I seem to have forgotten about Category:Christian leaders when I removed Category:Christian religious leaders.) I personally have a tendency to remove most nonexistent (red-linked) categories, unless I already have an idea that we have other content which would be suitable for them. With regard to Henry D. Moyle, most of the LDS-related categories seem too narrow, and, via the other members of the newly-created Category:Leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, somewhat redundant, in that the same pages and no others would populate all of them.
In short, we're a smaller project than Wikipedia, and our categorization reflects that. —LrdChaos (talk) 17:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
