Please stop recreating the Thomas J. Cairney page -- unless you can provide some evidence of his notability. But I could not find anything about such a person on the Net, leading me to my conclusion that he is not notable enough for inclusion on Wikiquote. Thanks. ~ UDScott 19:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, im kind of new to this, so new that it took me like 20 minutes to find the page im typing on now, i am yet to find out whether it is going to do what i want it to do. What i do want to know is: 1) Who are you exactly?(reading back sounds awfully confrontational, which i hope you understand was not intended) 2) I was under the impression that it was possible to create any article, or submit any qoute....i qouted me. From a book i have not yet finished nor have come near to publishing.....however i will humour you and tell you about Thomas J. Cairney, firstly he is studying law at university, with the intention to join the bar council. Secondly a very talented writer, of both fiction and fact, merely bacause he enjoys it. And thirdly obviously with too much time on his hands to be having this conversation.

Regards,

p.s, you say that you could not find notability on the net, what if Thomas J. Cairney only resides in those outdated resources known as books? and i was creating his first electronic reference, everyone needs to be referenced on the internet for the first time.

Welcome[edit]

Hello, Topcat1308, and welcome to the English Wikiquote, a free compendium of quotations written collaboratively by people just like you!

To ask for advice or assistance feel free to drop by the Village Pump or ask on my talk page. Happy editing! And again, welcome! I think these links will help answer most of your questions. When I referenced that I could not find any information on this person on the Net, I just meant that I could not find any reference to such a person or any books he might have written. Your response merely confirms the non-notability of him.

As to who I am, I am one of the sysops on the site, and part of my function is to try to ensure that wikiquote's pages fit into the framework that has been set up and that pages follow the style and templates established. One of the important things to remember with respect to creating new pages is that the person or work should be considered notable and it should not be an autobiography of yourself (see Wikiquote:Wikiquote). But, there is certainly a place for personal quotes - you can place them on your User page, which for you, would be at this link: User:Topcat1308. If you have other questions or need help, feel free to write to me on my Talk page, User talk:UDScott. ~ UDScott 20:48, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So when i finished my book, and send it to you for you to read, (hopefully you wil enjoy it) you could quote it? Furthermore, i understand i may not be notable, but just for self reasurrance, would you also deem the qoute not notable? - —This unsigned comment is by Topcat1308 (talkcontribs) .
First, you don't need to send me your book - I am certainly not a publisher or anything like that. Second, the point is not the quality of the quote - there are certainly many good quotes that may be excluded because the person is not notable. That is why I suggested you place it on your user page. There's nothing wrong with the content of the quote...it is just that this site is not for great personal quotes, but rather for quotes from notable people and works. Also, please remember to sign your posts with by writing four tildes ( ~~~~ ). It will add your username and the time and date of your post. ~ UDScott 21:26, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
