Buffy format tips[edit]

Hey, don't worry about mistakes for several reasons: they're easily corrected, Buffy formatting can be complicated, and, as I mentioned, some of it is undocumented, so it takes a while to pick up on it all. Usually I don't trouble relatively new editors, but I could see you were in the process of adding substantial text, so I thought it'd be a good idea to let you know right away. Don't let it discourage you from adding more material. In fact, any comments on the information as presented are welcome. (Some explanation of why it's so complicated can be found at User:Jeffq/Experiments/Firefly format, Wikiquote talk:Templates#Films & TV Shows, Talk:Television shows/Dialog formatting#General comments, and elsewhere.)

By the way, what you do with your user page is up to you, but it's considered bad form to delete user comments. Talk pages are more like Usenet discussions than real-world bulletin boards, in that one should be able to review old discussions. Accumulating significant talk-page text is the mark of an involved user, and we all start out with "newbie" conversations. (Check out the earliest archives of just about any seasoned wiki user for examples.) Just another unrequested tip. ;) ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:06, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon me for my presumption. I see that you have an archive yourself; I just didn't realize that you archive entries so quickly. As Emily Litella would say, "Never mind." ☺ ~ Jeff Q (talk) 02:23, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Buffy format tips[edit]

Thanks for the contributions to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Might I suggest a few formatting tips?

  1. Only add character links once per character per episode. They take up a lot of space in the raw text and make it harder for editors to see the actual quotes.
  2. Use complete sentences with proper capitalization and punctuation in the context lines whenever possible while keeping them brief. (I know; it's a challenge to do both. ☺)
  3. For stage directions (like [to himself]), always use [brackets] and italics.
  4. When quoting text (like when someone reads from a magic tome), use double quotation marks, not italics.

Most formatting tips are mentioned in the article's talk page, but some of them are merely undocumented conventions for this and other articles. I'm trying to make them more explicit for Firefly (see User:Jeffq/Experiments/Firefly format), so I'm hoping to update Buffy and others in the near future. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 23:58, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

ZachsMind 14:59, 13 July 2005 (UTC) Cool. Thanks. I think I'm doing okay but if I screw up somewhere I'm sure y'all will let me know. Been a lurker and occasional contributor already. The Janeane Garofalo update is perhaps my boldest effort to date. Good to know there's someone to turn to if I get stuck.[reply]

Hi! Do you know about Wikiquote:Reference desk? It is meant to be a place where you can ask questions about quotations. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 16:46, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
