On other wikis, users can be lazy about a page at first, and then other users will see that page and make it better. Of course SEWQ works the same way, but I'm worried that in the meantime, some one could say, "Hey, this changes what the quote means too much." Thanks for helping me translate again!

I was confused about words ending in "s" because I was thinking about Basic English rules of word use. Now I think, 'those are good rules for many things in simple English, but not as good for quotes.'

Commenting on stuff from my sandbox is fine. Everybody shares the whole wiki, even my userpage and sandbox, so talking about it, copying some of it to the mainspace, and changing it are all good things for anyone to do.

I learn much better and faster when a good change is explained to me, but if its easier for you, just go ahead and change it. Or change it, and explain it too. Use the way you think will make the mainspace look better in the end. -Haikon 13:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protecting unwanted pages from being recreated

I'm no expert, I've just seen others do it. So I refer to en. wikipedia for further reading:

It seems to me that the best way is by 'transcluding the article onto a page with cascading protection enabled, such as Wikipedia:Protected titles.' :

Make a page Wikiquote:Protected titles.
Transclude the unwanted titles onto it.
Protect the new page with cascading protection.
Whenever a new spambot page (w/w/w.index.php/w/w/talk etc titles that no human will ever search for or use) pops up, add them to the Wikiquote:Protected titles page.
Then you will not have to delete the same page title over and over again. It will not stop other titles, very like those already protected, from beeing created, only the exact titles are protectet.

If you need better advise maybe you can talk to User:.snoopy. on Meta, he knows how to do it.

Since this is the smallest and most controversial of the SE projects currently in existence, I'd really like to see it grow, but since it is more than adding pages, that will take time. Thanks for pointing out that difference in my signature. You'll notice that I changed it. However, if you stop and think about it, there is nothing that says that the correct abbreviation for contributions is "contribs" instead of "contris" except custom. You could look at A Tale of Two Cities for an idea of what I think is good. We should probably settle on a system, but it doesn't have to be my system. I don't own this wiki! :)

Regarding crossing out and indenting votes, I hadn't gotten to the lower section yet. But now I have. It is true that some unbiased person should do it, but I had done it before and no one objected so I figured I could do it now, especially if I do it in an unbiased way (which I am doing). I fixed it now so that both are the same. If someone objects, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for an admin over there to revert my indents, etc. Or we could talk about it over there. I'm glad there was a good result from having the sitenotice point to the main closure page, but I really think it should point straight to the closure proposal about this project, especially since there is a link at the top of that page back to the main closure page. It was merely an IRC log, where he asked me for the log. I had trouble finding the location of the log, however the only personal information there was Eptalon's IP address (which I removed before pasting this here). I think on English Wikipedia, RfAs are for 7 days even if they have 100% support and a large number of votes. If I closed yours early, everyone would want me to close theirs early, and then I would have to make a lot of difficult decisions. Not everyone has voted. I'm sorry, you'll have to wait. Be patient. A member of my family said that "bureaucrat" sounds like someone who is always making people wait. ☺ If you need things to be done by an administrator, you can put them in the requests for administrator attention. I must say, I am very happy and satisfied to help the Wikiquote community in a brand new way, and that I know the community trusts me with the administrative tools. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. Knowing the the overall community trusts me is very heartfelt, and knowing that the community believes I will do well, is very, very good feeling. When I first arrived at Simple English Wikiquote, I saw that the wiki was still growing, so I decided to start contributing to a nice wiki like Simple English Wikiquote. I worked on a lot of wikifying, copyediting, article creation, simplifying quotes, and much more things that I believe have helped improve the quality of the Simple English Wikiquote for all of the readers who come to learn. Every edit we make makes a difference, and making that difference has improved the knowledge of numerous people in our world, which makes editing all the fun. I did my best to work on articles and some general maintenance around here, and I soon realized that more administrators were needed in the most part, so I decided to try to become an administrator here when American Eagle, kindly offered to nominate me for adminship. I was thoroughly surprised how my RfA went, and I am very thankful that I can partake the duties as an administrator, and I will do my very best to help the Simple English Wikiquote community. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as swiftly as I possibly can. I think giving a bot flag needs consensus. It would not be a good idea to just give a bot flag to everyone who asks. Then vandals could get a bot flag and hide their changes from the New Changes list. (I don't mean that ChitBot is a vandal. I just like to do it the same way every time.) If you like, you can start a discussion at Simple Talk to make a simpler way to give bot flags, so that it will be easier next time. If the community thinks a simpler way is a good idea and I think it's not a bad idea then I'll do it that way. I think that usually, if someone votes in a discussion, then they don't close the discussion, because they're not neutral (impartial). The person closing a discussion should be neutral. If I voted, or if I think I can't be neutral for some reason, then I won't close a discussion. I think you will see that on English Wikipedia, if a bureaucrat votes in an RfA then they don't close it. Or if someone votes in an AfD then they don't close it. I do it by hand each time. (I copy it with the computer mouse.) It's not really in my signature. If someone knows a way to make things change every time like that, I would like to know. But another reason I didn't put it in my signature is that sometimes I like to have no smiley. Making them all the same size is fine. These days, I usually make them all the same size. I think it's semi-protected. Do you mean you want Template:Meaning to be semi-protected? I usually oppose protecting or semi-protecting pages or templates unless there's a big problem with vandalism. But if another admin semi-protects a template that's used on a large number of pages, I don't oppose it strongly and I won't ask them to unprotect it. You could ask American Eagle to semi-protect the Meaning template. I don't think a discussion on Simple talk is needed for that, unless someone else says they oppose it too.

Re: Message about other projects

It was merely because StaticChristian is banned at Simple English Wikipedia, so the message couldn't be left there. He asked for messages regarding himself and his edits relating to SEWP to be submitted here (see here). RyanCross approached him about his IP at this project, because StaticChristian neither edits or checks the English Wikipedia. It was a simple link: He denied vandalising RyanCross's page at the English Wikipedia with his IP, but that particular IP is blocked as a sockpuppet of StaticChristian at the SEWP. There was simply no other way to contact him regarding that vandalism, and as he asked specifically for messages regarding SEWP to be left here, I did so. I wouldn't have minded that. Second, you definitely should have closed the RfB of AE. Refusing to close a request when you are the only bureaucrat on the project is like saying you won't do it ever (kind of). I don't mind everything else you have done here throughout, and I even commend you for some of the work that you have done here, but I did not like what you decided to do over the past week. Re not voting in RfXs if one is the only bureaucrat: I think that on small projects with only one or a small number of bureaucrats, that the bureaucrats often vote in the discussions and close them even if they've voted. I plan to continue doing what I said when I accepted the nomination to be a bureaucrat: [2] except that I learned, when closing AE's first RfB, that asking stewards probably doesn't work.

When I accepted the nomination to be a bureaucrat, I didn't agree not to vote in any discussions. I understand that sometimes it makes sense for a bureaucrat not to vote, and I've done it that way many times and plan to continue to be careful about things like that.

You said that I should have closed AE's RfB, but I don't understand your reason for saying that. You say it's like saying I won't do it ever. I'm sorry: I don't know what you mean by that. Do you mean you were worried that the discussion might never be closed by anyone? I don't think I would have let that happen.

I wasn't willing to close AE's RfB. I said I wasn't going to close it. I was able to say that because I knew it was true. I knew I wasn't going to change my mind. This is why: I knew that there were many possible ways things could happen, but also that if I ever had a choice between resigning and closing the RfB, I would choose to resign; and I knew that I always had a choice of resigning. So me closing the RfB was not going to happen. I thought that I probably would not have to resign, though. And things worked out in one of the ways I thought they would.
