When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone.

Eric Howard Carmen (11 August 1949 – March 2024) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist. He had numerous hit songs in the 1970s and 1980s, first as a member of the Raspberries and then in his solo career.

Quotes[edit]

Go All the Way (1972)[edit]

Go All the Way 1974 performance · 2007 performance
  • I never, never knew how complete love could be
Till she kissed me and said
"Baby, please, go all the way
It feels so right (feels so right)
    Being with you here tonight"
    "Please, go all the way
Just hold me close (hold me close)
Don't ever let me go (don't let me go)"

All by Myself (1975)[edit]

Lyrics by Carmen, with music adapted from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 · Video performance by Carmen · Performance by Celine Dion
  • When I was young
    I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
    Those days are gone.
  • All by myself
Don't want to be all by myself anymore.
  • Hard to be sure
    Sometimes I feel so insecure
And love so distant and obscure
    Remains the cure.
