I have read more than once that Burnham's "Make no little plans..." quote was ghostwritten, or at least heavily edited, by San Francisco architect Willis Polk, an admirer and sometime business associate of Burnham's and a prolific self-promoting journalist. Cannot now find a source for this; a place to start might be George Washington University professor Richard Longstreth and his book On The Edge of the World, an architectural history that groups Polk with several San Francisco contemporaries.
