Thank you for your contributions to Wikiquote. Might I ask that you please use the "Edit summary" feature whenever you edit to provide a terse summary of the changes you make during each edit? This helps folks review article changes from a broad perspective without having to do server-intensive, step-by-step examination of individual edits. If you'd like more information on this, please see Wikipedia:Edit summary or drop me a note on my talk page. Thank you for your assistance.
Hi. I wanted to ask you to sign comments in talk pages. The easiest way to sign is to add ~~~~ at the end -- it is automatically transformed to your username and a timestamp. This makes it much easier to track discussions, and is the common practice here. Thanks. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 05:04, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Comics[edit]
Hi. I'm happy to find another comics fan here, and especially a DC/Vertigo fan, since my own interests run more in the Marvel direction, and I am happy to have a counterweight. If you are interested in formatting comics and having standard guidelines, I would love to share thoughts with you. You may want to inspect Spider-Girl, Runaways, Ctrl Alt Del, The Order of the Stick, Ultimate X-Men, Dinosaur Comics and others to see some decisions I've made, and the appropriate section in Firefly to see what some others did. See Wikiquote:Guide to layout for general layout advice and you can have a look at Wikiquote:Templates/TV shows for where I get most of my inspiration for comic-book quotation formatting. Please also see my edits on The Filth, where I tried to clean up the formatting - please let me know if you think it looks better or worse. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 15:28, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Is this the official style or just your own? I notice Spider-Girl doesn't have issue titles. I think it would be better to put the titles before the issue number, since that's the formatting people seem to use on most other sites. Also, the current layout suggests that there's a comic or multi-issue storyline called "Them vs Us" and that quote is taken from its first issue. Actually, I've got to be perfectly honest and say that I hate the new version. It looks cramped and overbearing, especially when there's only one quote per issue. There's a lot of black text anyway, and adding the issue headings on top of that makes it difficult on the eye (don't think I'm being precious about "my" design - I actually stole it off another article by someone else). Also, in series with more than 13 issues, that menu bar is going to be enormous. --Mister Six 16:22, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- My problem is that there is no "official" style. Not enough people other than me, until now, were actually interested. I am happy you take an interest, even if you disagree with me. Please feel free to revert the article to what you believe is a nicer style -- wikiquote is a collaborative effort. The general guidelines I try to go for are "clarity of source" and "a lot of encouragement for new editors to add quotations in a way they can be verified". Please add any comments you have to Wikiquote talk:Guide to layout#Comic book formatting. ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 16:34, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- PS. There is actually an official style -- as comic books are literary works, they would have to follow the style of literary works. Luckily, this is so obviously unsuitable, that nobody even dares to bring up that alternative :) ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 16:34, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
Categories[edit]
Please do not add supercategories: an article which is in Category:Marvel comics should not be in Category:Comics. There has been much discussion on that issue, and this is the agreed-upon guideline. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk) 15:34, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- What's the logic behind that decision? I would have thought the most practical thing would be to make it so that anyone interested in browsing through the comic quotes in Wikipedia can look at the main list, but those who want a more refined search can use the DC/Marvel/whatever subdivisions? Also, what about adding "literary works" to the comic articles? That's not quite the same thing... is it? --Mister Six 16:22, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Please see User talk:UDScott/Archive01#Film categories. Thanks ~ MosheZadka (Talk)
Ω[edit]
The Omega sign can be entered in various ways; using Unicode designations, copying and pasting existing occurrences, such as those here, or in my case simply typing Option-z on a Macintosh keyboard: Ω. ~ Kalki 22:43, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'm not a dirty Mac use like you, but it'll do. ;) --Mister Six 18:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Mister Six. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Mister Six~enwikiquote that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
