A '''{{w|chain}}''' is a [[wikt:series#Noun|serial]] assembly of connected pieces, called links, typically made of metal, with an overall character similar to that of a {{w|rope}} in that it is flexible and {{w|curve}}d in [[w:compression (physics)|compression]] but [[w:line (geometry)|linear]], rigid, and load-bearing in [[w:tension (physics)|tension]].
