Summary

Description
English: St. Joan by Keith Grant,1971, at the entrance to the Shaw Theatre in Euston Road. The plaque below this sculpture reads: " This sculpture was inspired by George Bernard Shaw's play St. Joan, and was designed as the symbol of the Shaw Theatre. Its component parts are the abstract forms of a knight's helmet and the long bows and lances of medieval armies. The work commemorates events in Joan's life but also the courage of subsequent women victims of oppression and injustice.

George Bernard Shaw lived in St Pancras where he was a vestryman of the Parish.

The first version of St. Joan was commissioned by the London Borough of Camden in 1971 and was situated on the Euston Road adjacent to the entrance to the former St Pancras library and Shaw Theatre. This version with a new base designed by the artist was completed in 2002"
