Description
English: Self-portrait of Zen master Hakuin Ekaku (白隠 慧鶴, 1686–1768). In the 18th century Hakuin revived the Rinzai school. His influence was so immense that almost all contemporary Rinzai lineages are traced back to him. Self-portrait (1767), one width and paper this coloring · 133.3x57.0cm. Ryutakuji (Shizuoka Prefecture). In Zen Buddhism, there is a custom called Chinsou, in which a teacher gives a portrait of himself to his disciples as a license, and although a professional painter usually draws it, Hakuin drew it himself.
日本語: 白隠慧鶴（はくいん えかく）の自画像（1767年）・一幅・紙本着色・133.3x57.0cm、龍澤寺（静岡県）。禅宗には師が弟子に免許状として、自らの肖像を授与する頂相（ちんぞう）という習わしがあり、専門の絵師が普通は描くのだが、白隠は自ら描いて渡したという。
