François Lenormant (17 January 1837 – 9 December 1883) was a French archaeologist.

Four years after the death of the author this book was put on the Index. Quite probably Lenormant would have submitted, since in his introduction he asserts his attachment to the Catholic Faith and his devotion to the Church.
