Welcome

Hello, Koavf, and welcome to the English Wikiquote, a free compendium of quotations written collaboratively by people just like you!

To ask for advice or assistance feel free to drop by the Village Pump or ask on my talk page. Happy editing! And again, welcome! By the way, the relevancy between Western Sahara and Gustav's quote is a bit unclear for me (it doesn't seem not to refer to the country as is, but a quote addressed in that area, or counrty... and if so, it is a bit different from usual way). Would you want to add some remark on that quote? --Aphaia 04:11, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

categories

Hi Koavf. I undid or reworked some of your edits to categories (e.g. Category:India / Category:Indians, among others) because Wikiquote treats articles containing quotes by a person and articles containing quotes about a theme as two completely distinct categories. If you would like to propose reorganizing the Fundamental categories, please discuss it at Category talk:Fundamental or at the Village Pump. Thanks. ~ Ningauble 16:54, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Jarmusch

I have added a "prod" template to the article Jim Jarmusch, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but it may not satisfy Wikiquote's criteria for inclusion, for the reasons given in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikiquote is not" and Wikiquote's deletion policy).

You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Votes for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ~ Ningauble (talk) 19:53, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Remove boldface from most "Last words"

Hello. Can you please weigh in and give your opinion at Wikiquote:Village pump#Boldface in all "last words"? There, I'm proposing to remove boldface from most quotes in Last words, Fictional last words, and their subpages. Details and reasons are given in the discussion itself. Thanks in advance. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 07:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Regular Show

Koavf, stop editing the Regular Show page and go to the Cartoon Network Studios to talk to the creator to revive the series (without 25 years later) along with Adventure Time (without 1000 years later) because it was canceled too... --186.12.105.137 22:50, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IP vandals...

A bunch of IP addresses constantly bully admins such as Kalki, UDScott, and Tegel, and vandalize the Administrators' noticeboard‎ without explanation or remorse. No matter how many we block, another IP with the same MO continues where it left off. I request permanent protection of all pages they vandalized, including all talk pages. But something has to be done to stop that vandal permanently. WikiLubber (talk) 12:45, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiLubber: Hm. Sorry that I haven't seen this. We may need to escalate somewhere on m: if we can't handle it locally. —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:52, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
To prevent IP vandals from ever creating a talk page for 94rain again, I recommend you put indefinite protection on it. WikiLubber (talk) 12:35, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@WikiLubber: Another good suggestion. I've decided to do indefinite with autoconfirmation. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:12, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IP vandal...

IP user 98.214.101.235 is constantly adding categories that are absolutely wrong to certain series.

Examples:
It refers to Alvin and the Chipmunks (1983 TV series) as a Cartoon Network show, but that series was cancelled BEFORE Cartoon Network even existed!
It refers to certain anime series as American TV shows, but none of them are!
It refers to some anime series as cancelled shows, but virtually none of them are!

I request that this user be blocked indefinitely and that all of its edits be undone. There are so many, I cannot do it alone. WikiLubber (talk) 15:09, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiLubber: Since he's already blocked, I don't want to interfere but if the IP continues, please ping me and I'll indefinitely block. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:18, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The IP is at it again. Has learned nothing from its prior block. WikiLubber (talk) 00:19, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiLubber: Thanks for patrolling this. Looks like he's already blocked. A better method for reporting this would be to post on the admin's board and if you want to get my attention in particular, please use ping. Great work, WL. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:28, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Another IP vandal...

IP vandal 24.13.202.205 continuously adds family members to certain articles without explanation (again!). I request it be blocked indefinitely. WikiLubber (talk) 16:19, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiLubber: He's only been warned once on his talk and while what he is adding is definitely not helpful, it's not obviously vandalism. I'm doing two weeks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:16, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to know everything that goes on around wmf projects, so you are probably already aware of the controversy about flow (wiki-structured-discussions development). I have always maintained that something flowlike is absolutely necessary to have, but my wiki-voice seems to be muffled. Today, after years of trying to discuss this, I finally got one of the most vocal persons opposed to flow development on my meta talkpage. Of course now is the wrong time for this discussion due to covid, but that's the nature of this place. I hope I am making sense. Cheer, Ottawahitech (talk) 13:13, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ottawahitech: I don't know that it's the wrong time: all of us are locked indoors and unemployed. Seems like the best time. —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:09, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good point !
I myself find it very frustrating to try and contribute something helpful, since some of my edits are being deleted by good faith admins who think I am out to destroy their wiki-world. I wish they would at least notify me when they delete pages I created, such as pages created when I am the first to post on a user talkpage. It is very frustrating to not find something that you spent effort composing. I wonder how often this happens to newbies who may start doubting their own sanity. Sorry for my rant, I hope I am making sense?. Ottawahitech (talk) 15:55, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance requested

It concerns one Pratap Pandit (talkcontribsglobal editspage movesblock userblock log)

It constantly harasses users such as Rupert loup, დამოკიდებულება, and myself, and refuses to admit defeat.
Plus, it has a history of sockpuppetry on Wikipedia. We cannot take any chances that it may take its frustration out on Wikiquote.
And in this edit, it claims დამოკიდებულება has a "weird name", and it demanded დამოკიდებულება add an English name in his signature, just because it claimed it would be "easier to communicate". I request action be taken against this user immediately. I already notified other higher-ups. DawgDeputy (talk) 02:05, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pratap Pandit, DawgDeputy: I think this should be discussed in a centralized place, not on my talk page. Please post to an appropriate board and ping me. —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:13, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf: there's a crazy thread on the AN here. It's all a bit frustrating so don't get so caught up as I might have(;´д`)ゞ I made a comment there (a few, actually) at the bottom with info, context, and evidence goodies. Hopefully this'll get sorted out by you lol dibbydib⌐■_■ (barate me) 08:24, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you read the threads at WQ:AN , it would be clear to you. The only diffs worth looking at in their report are the ones from Wikiquote, and they are all from content disputes being discussed on the respective talk page. After failing to find any evidence of policy violation against me, these members of the "We group" have added diffs of content dispute, hoping to mislead others into thinking that this is some kind of offence to have a content dispute and discuss it on the talk page. In fact User:Dibbydib himself is a big part of the problem here. While the content dispute was ongoing, it was Dibbydib who first escalated this by asking to take "Content dispute" to Village pump. And in his comment above he accusing me of reporting the other editor's behavior. Dibbydib is now turning a blind eye towards all the disruption and harassment against me and is siding with the other harassers in trying to bludgeon me on the AN thread. He seems to be incapable or unwilling to look at things from a neutral perspective. Reading the threads on this page, it would be clear to anyone, that they have no evidence for violation of any policy against me. It seems this group is hoping for sanctions based on "imaginary violations" and content disputes. --Pratap Pandit (talk) 09:56, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User:Dibbydib You have already said the same things multiple times on WQ:AN. it will be helpful for everyone, if you now stop repeating yourself and let administrators handle the case on its merits. --Pratap Pandit (talk) 10:34, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apology and explanation

Justin I apologise if the thread on the WQ:ANI page caused you any grief. I was merely answering your question initially (and I probably should have tagged you then but anyway) - but consequent to that Ylevental demonstrated again his tendency to harass (and lie) which is what got him blocked on here previously. I'll leave it to you of course, but another block for a little longer (a month maybe) might just bring him to heel on this apparent obsession he has over me and DawgDeputy. Of course, if he ignores your instruction on said thread he'll get blocked anyway as you said. Again, I apologise if any grief was caused by my actions and I will follow your instructions there and move on after posting this comment. TLPG (talk) 22:16, 22 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TLPG: Thanks for this. I just get tired of the sniping on this site: this is a small community and what we do should be fun. I don't like all of the drama that has been here lately and there are so many threads that spiral out of control with users talking about irrelevant things and making accusations. Add to that the standard vandalism and sockpuppetry and it just gets exhausting. Kind words help tho and I just want us all to move onwards and upwards. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:11, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

#she said & IPs

I saw your posting about her and was wondering if anyone is working on Jan Morris. I was impressed to see we already have a page about her, AND an IP already updated it after her death. What would we do without all those helpful IP's? Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:47, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that IPs are necessary for what we're doing. I also have the same common skepticism to IP edits but I can't deny that they've been instrumental. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:25, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

#shesaid

I see that many wikiquote language sister projects have a dedicated page for the

#shesaid editathon. How can we start one on the enwikiquote?

BTW as I have just discovered many of the women in Category:Women:

 • Are Stubs, but we do not have a women-stub category
 • Have no image (I have added a few from Commons)
 • Have no wikidata entry

Of course most women with an article on wikiquote have not been included yet in the above Category.

Also @Anthere: Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 18:58, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also just remembered: the postcard which I added to my userpage has no link to direct interested users to this editathon. Ottawahitech (talk) 19:00, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A sock you blocked has more socks

 • 20 June 2020 you blocked ΞΔΞ for "Abusing multiple accounts".[8]
 • The current user page for დამოკიდებულება page admits they are a new account for ΞΔΞ,[9] supposedly because they lost the password to ΞΔΞ. The დამოკიდებულება userpage has claimed to be "Retired" for the last half year, but they continue to edit as of yesterday.
 • In this user page edit from half a year ago დამოკიდებულება ago admits they intent to create yet another new account.
 • Editor Interaction Analyzer makes it clear that დამოკიდებულება and Vilho-Veli are the same individual,[10] with massive overlap and coordinated back-and-forth edits within minutes. For example დამოკიდებულება creates this page and edits it for 15 minutes, then 6 minutes later Vilho-Veli manages to find it and add the the appropriate image and categories to complete the work.
 • Editor Interaction Analyzer makes it clear that Risto_hot_sir and დამოკიდებულება are the same individual.[11] There is an 8 month gap between the accounts, but massive overlap. დამოკიდებულება's first day of editing begins with overlap reverts and a revert edit summary ranting about censorship.
 • EnWiki Sock Investigations have blocked Risto_hot_sir Sipe-Mika Savonhelmi and Vilho-Veli as the same sock.

There are concerns over at EnWiki that this user has been creating or manipulating Wikiquote pages to push their personal ideological agenda. Global Contributions indicate they have been working on a Global scale. We aren't familiar with Wikiquote standards for quote selection, but I suggest all contributions from this user be considered agenda-driven at best. In at least one case they compiled a questionable page of quotes to malign the wiki community. I came across a concerning edit,[12] where they add a link to someone's personal blog to wikiquote, in support of a quote they added. That blog appears to share much the same religious and political agenda of the editing by this sockswarm. Alsee (talk) 02:34, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also დამოკიდებუილება2 is a declared alternate account of დამოკიდებულება. Alsee (talk) 03:13, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It turns out Vilho-Veli was just globally locked, so I reported the other accounts to be global locked as well. Alsee (talk) 06:37, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Alsee: Wow, I just saw this. Thanks for this thorough post: I wish I could have gotten to it earlier. Please let me know if you need any feedback from me on Meta for the stewards. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:41, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
After looking into it further, Risto_hot_sir/Vilho-Veli/Sipe-Mika/Savonhelmi/etc is one user with (global locked) serial accounts, and ΞΔΞ/დამოკიდებულება/დამოკიდებუილება2 is a different user with serial accounts. The suspicious overlap was likely a coincidence, both have large edit counts. Concerns have been raised about the second user using wikquote to push and ideological agenda, but I am unclear how serious those concerns are. I haven't looked into the circumstances regarding your ΞΔΞ block for "Abusing multiple accounts". Alsee (talk) 11:18, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Alsee: This was confirmed off-wiki. Unfortunately, this whole issue with edits related to Hindutva and Islam in India is complicated by a small group of admins, byzantine edits, a lack of local CheckUsers, and this project just being small. As you can see, some of this was caught and investigated over the course of the past several months but not all of it. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:16, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying there is an off-wiki confirmed link between the Risto_hot_sir set of accounts and the დამოკიდებულება set of accounts? I find that wildly implausible. I see two sets of accounts with incompatible behavior.
 1. First set of accounts has an intense interest in Hindutva-Islam content edits, it edits EnglishWikiquote, Wikidata, and Metawiki. It has a sequential timeline of account use: Jedi3, Luke Jedi Skywalker, ΞΔΞ, დამოკიდებულება.
 2. The second set of accounts has an intense interest in Finnish proverbs content edits, category gnoming, and hits literally hundreds of language-editions of Wikipedia/Wikiquote adding Wikiquote_templates/images. One of the accounts hit 349 different wikis, and another account used for just two days hit 79 wikis. It has a sequential timeline of account use: Risto_hot_sir, Finnish IP addresses, Savonhelmi, Roope_poor, Veli-Turo, Vilho-Veli, Minä muka. About 95% of the edits to Finish Proverbs in the last two years were made by this account-set. None of the first account-set appear in Finnish proverbs at all.
The first account set makes lots of large content-edits in Bhimrao_Ramji_Ambedkar. You do find overlap edits from the second account set, but note that the second account makes small gnoming edits. The second account set doesn't care about the Hindutva-Islam quote content. I also find it striking that the timeline of edits there clearly violates the sequential-account-use pattern. In order to be the same person, they would have to run two parallel and desychronised sets of accounts, bouncing back and forth for years for different types of edits. Not plausible. Alsee (talk) 18:22, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Alsee: Sorry, I am saying that the second set of related accounts (the delta and Georgian text usernames) from your previous comment were confirmed off-wiki. —Justin (koavf)TCM 09:11, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"What? Why are you inserting a redlink?"

Hi Koavf,

You asked why I was inserting red-links, so here I am trying to answer: It is my understanding that red-links can be a measure of needed pages. When one clicks on What links here (even on a red-link page) one gets to see all the pages that are trying to link to it. Am I making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 06:04, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ottawahitech: Sure but I think that really makes more sense in the main namespace to point out gaps in the reference work rather than a string of redlink templates on project pages. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:56, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pinging me, @Koavf. I happened to be re-visiting some old bussiness on the flagship, and saw this:

Links should not be created to templates unless and until the templates have been created. Do not create red links to files. Such red links are categorized for cleanup at Category:Articles with missing files.

Do not create redirect pages to pages that do not exist.

I am not sure how else one can gauge the need for new templates and files, but I guess these are the rules, so I will try to memorize them. Happy holidays, Ottawahitech (talk) 21:24, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ottawahitech: It is very hard to know until you do it and then see if others run with it. Until then, you can post to the Village Pump and that may gauge interest. Merry Christmas and happy new year up north. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:04, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf:

That user randomly posts caricatures to further its ridiculous agenda and mocks my name, and no one is doing anything to stop it. This user must be blocked indefinitely.

And it is a sockpuppet of vandal Oohtqejjhh.
When you block this user, also strike all of the user's edits, as well as the edits of its original account. I do not want any trace of it left. DawgDeputy (talk) 13:12, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to clarify: I certainly did not think the additional sourcing information was fine print or such, but rather that it might be better to link to the full text of his speech. And since it is the inauguration address for the President of the United States I didn't feel that notability was a question (and thus didn't think it required additional sources). But I am not against having them there and will not revert your edits. Just wanted to explain my rationale. Cheers. ~ UDScott (talk) 21:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@UDScott: No worries and to be clear on my rationale (and sorry if this was too snippy): "The {} tag is not intended for making things visually smaller (that's CSS), nor is it for asides (that's what the {} tag is for) but is only for fine print such as terms of service or legal disclaimers; this is not those, therefore, it shouldn't be here." But there's definitely no beef on my end with any edit of yours that I've seen on any of our projects, UD. Thanks for the note. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:07, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DawgDeputy

Hi Koavf. You probably already know my name as DawgDeputy reported me to see if I'm to be blocked for my edits. To be honest, I'm never meaning to vandalize articles. I'm only wanting to revert some of my unnecessary edits and correct typos. I'm also mostly often mistaken as a vandalizer, although I am not starting to be one now. For any user including Eaglestorm saying I mocked them, I'm very sorry to them. When you have time, discuss with Dawg on my reason for not getting blocked indefinitely. But, if Dawg had the decision for you to have me leave, then it will be okay. It won't even matter as it's not a big deal. Thank you. --Christian M. (2016) 0:26, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Sorry for bothering you again, I know you are busy. I tried to view your "user talk page log" which I think is this https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=User+talk%3AKoavf but there are no items there (visible to me). Ottawahitech (talk) 15:08, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to edit my signature design

Welcome here! Today I want to ask you how I can design my username in comment signatures. For example, your username signature has the word Justin in it when your username doesn't. Your signature also has emojis in it. How do I change the design of my signature on my comments on talk pages? Like the following one: Rockstar Arianagrande (talk) 20:59, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Rockstar Arianagrande: Go to Special:Preferences, the section "Signature". If you wanted one identical to mine for instance, it would be —Justin (<span style="color:grey">koavf</span>)<span style="color:red">❤T☮C☺M☯</span> and check the box "Treat signature as wikitext (without an automatic link)". —Justin (koavf)TCM 08:36, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Template loop

I thought this issue was already fixed (per comment by Ningauble). Is this change you are making necessary? ~ UDScott (talk) 16:22, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@UDScott: Yes it is! Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:29, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, what do you mean? Why is it necessary - and if so, then should we not be using italic title any more? (Or did you mean that the issue is actually fixed and no further changes are needed?) ~ UDScott (talk) 16:48, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@UDScott: I am an idiot. The answer is "No, it isn't! Thanks." I don't have strong feelings on using the template versus magic words but since the template seems easier, then I'll lean that direction. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:18, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

COVID-19 vaccine

Hello Koavf, could you remove the Edit=Allow only autoconfirmed users (indefinite) from COVID-19 vaccine? I would ask BD2412 (he is the one who put it on), but he hasn't made an edit since January 2nd. --2001:8003:DDB1:C600:D934:D8B8:2321:F9D5 05:56, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@BD2412: BD has been active across Wikimedia projects. I'll give him 48 hours to respond before I try to undo another admin's actions. —Justin (koavf)TCM 05:57, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated. --2001:8003:DDB1:C600:D934:D8B8:2321:F9D5 06:00, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whenever the page is unprotected, it immediately gets IP-dumped full of quotes that come nowhere near meeting our standards for inclusion. Twitter tweets, bits from blog posts from persons with no discernable quotability. This seems likely to persist until the pandemic is over. BD2412 T 06:10, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No harm in removing the protection - if it happened again it could be easily reinstated, and if good quotes instead are added that's a win. It's win/win. --2001:8003:DDB1:C600:D934:D8B8:2321:F9D5 06:24, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There will be serious harm if the protection is removed. Vandalism is never to occur again on that page. The protection stays indefinitely. If the protection is removed, all vandalism will be on you entirely, not the administrators. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DawgDeputy (talkcontribs) 16:33, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Re:DawgDeputy

I have attempted to negotiate with DawgDeputy, but they refuse to negotiate and reach consensus, instead stonewalling arguments with repeated assertions they are just “following the rules” (for reference LOQ, which they endlessly use as a universal trump card, is only an unofficial policy draft): https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:DawgDeputy&diff=prev&oldid=3082612 https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:DawgDeputy&diff=prev&oldid=3082607 https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:DawgDeputy&diff=prev&oldid=3082599 More complaints can of course be found on Admin’s Noticeboard. Dronebogus (talk) 10:25, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

UDScott previously explained to User:DawgDeputy (then using the user name WikiLubber) that LOQ "should not be used to exercise extreme limits on the number of quotes, especially in the middle of a contentious discussion." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Butwhatdoiknow (talkcontribs) 16:21, 6 March 2022‎ (UTC)

@DawgDeputy, Dronebogus: I asked you to post a new talk page thread and invite me via ping. Why won't you do that? —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:46, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, here is the full list of complaints from admins noticeboard:

As can be seen in all the above diffs, DawgDeputy doesn’t seem to believe in collaboration and compromise, the whole point of a wiki, instead deciding they and they alone are allowed to determine article content and relying on edit warring to wear down those they disagree with. Their behavior is similar to user:Eaglestorm’s issues with rules abuse and article ownership only DawgDeputy does their bludgeoning and edit warring civilly. Since they’re also one of the few users who doesn’t find Eaglestorm’s behavior completely insufferable I’d even tentatively postulate one might be the good hand/bad hand account of the other or a w:wp:meatpuppet. User:Dronebogus (talk) 07:22, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dronebogus: Two things I don't want are 1.) conversations in several places about one topic and 2.) turning a content dispute into a personality-based conversation. —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1. First you ask me to try and make a discussion, now you’re saying don’t; 2. “Personality” is relevant if someone’s “personality” is extreme stubbornness and hostility to even reasonable change. Dronebogus (talk) 23:59, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dronebogus: I did want you to make a conversation. I did not want you to make four conversations all over the place. If one person is being intransigent, then it will be obvious who is in the wrong. If two persons are intransigent, it's very heard to tell who is at fault. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:01, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
DawgDeputy has a well documented history of doing this sort of thing, namely pointless and aggressive content gatekeeping. I’m being stubborn with them because I have a right to edit the pages they refuse to permit changes to and I refuse to be bullied. Dronebogus (talk) 00:08, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Dronebogus: I agree that DawgDeputy has some inappropriate behavior, but that doesn't justify actin inappropriately yourself (again, speaking from experience). —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:37, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dilemma: attributing work to globally banned user

Hi Koavf,

I hate to monopolize the VP, so decided to come here to address your last post.

You said: give attribution if it's required, and my reponse is: there is no attribution required as far as copyright law is concerned (I think?). However my personal preference is to not plagiarize, even in situations where copyright does not apply. This is why I want to attribute this work to the person who designed it before they were banned by the Wikimedia Foundation.

I hope I am making sense? Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 21:59, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I say go ahead and give credit in an edit summary if you want to do the minimum. If you're concerned about pinging as some kind of backdoor to reaching out to a banned user, just don't include [[User:, or even credit that person's real name, if it's public knowledge. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:02, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hidden categories

Hi Koavf,

I cannot remember anymore how to create a hidden category. Can you help? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:08, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Koavf, worked like a charm on two maintenance cats I inserted it in, (I think?). But, it looks like the hiddenness is not inherited by daughter sub-cats. So this is going to take me much more work than what I bargained for, depending on the the number of offspring sub-cats. I hope I am making sense?
BTW here is an example of an offspring cat: Category:Articles deleted on the English Wikipedia. cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:57, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ottawahitech: Correct, hiddenness is not inherited. If you have a prohibitive amount of categories to add this to, w:en:WP:AWB is a useful tool. Do you need help with adding HIDDENCAT? —Justin (koavf)TCM 18:02, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those are equivalent. The blocks need a number or duration and in this case, the "number" is infinity. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:55, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I am talking about wording, I think the second option sounds better. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF) (talk / e-mail) 20:03, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hi

I am trying to reach you but the Shueisha paid editors keep undoing me, quick help me 2600:6C5D:5100:30B4:8D75:817A:16F0:88FA 21:10, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tip

Tip: Use the qs Template to redacted comments from globally banned users. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 03:39, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll pass, thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:55, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why? – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 03:56, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer to keep the integrity of the comments. —Justin (koavf)TCM 04:06, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, your choice. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 04:23, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Or you could just remove comments instead of redacting them, if you wanted to get rid of them... --Ferien (talk) 05:57, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But the policy says to only remove comments for ban evasion or libel. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 06:02, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is WMF ban evasion, so I think that falls under ban evasion. You can also just delete comments once you have responded to them. --Ferien (talk) 06:04, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

UlrikeEbsworth0

Why did you give UlrikeEbsworth0 such a harsh ban, he only made one edit. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 06:57, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He's clearly only a spambot: crazy username, posts highly specific spam, no attempt at any constructive engagement, etc. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:59, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but a life-ban seems overkill. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 07:01, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's up to the stewards if they want to globally lock him. I've seen many accounts like this and they are all just spambots. If he's a real person and wants to be helpful, he can follow the process at Meta. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:03, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can I close this discussion? – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 07:04, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:05, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Before I close it, I've noticed some user have an irrational fear of closing discussions, do you know why this is? – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 07:07, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't really see the need to close an informal discussion on user talk anyway, let alone a reason to be afraid. You do you, friend. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:15, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Idea

You should create a list of editors you trust. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 07:59, 8 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the value in that. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:51, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I made a list on my page, viewable here. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 16:53, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Which I appreciate, but I'm not particularly motivated to do the same. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 16:56, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Adenoghie

Can you please re-enable his Talk Page access, he didn't abuse it. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 16:47, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, infinite seems excessive, the editor seems to be acting in good faith. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 17:00, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is it a sockpuppet account? If so, then infinite is appropriate. If it's not, then I agree. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:02, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The other account is, but Adenoghie is not a sockpuppet, only a sockpuppet master. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 17:04, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If it's the main account, the others should be indefinitely blocked and he should be given a reasonable time block and if he abuses sockpuppets again, indefinitely blocked with talk page access. —Justin (koavf)TCM 17:07, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is the main account, only one sockpuppet. – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 17:10, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Top banner

On every page there is a banner that says "Help Copyright Cleanup," this is only really used by few editors that are very active, basically no new users do this, so the message is pretty redundant. Instead could you replace with a message encouraging new editors to edit? – Ilovemydoodle (Not WMF, Not a sockpuppet of Antandrus, Not a paid editor of Shueisha) (talk / e-mail) 15:04, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that it's very crusty and probably not doing anything helpful. I'd recommend your proposal for the village pump and get consensus or solicit ideas before changing it. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:14, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
