Bettina von Arnim (4 April 178520 January 1859), also known as "Bettina Brentano", was a German writer, publisher, composer, singer, visual artist, and illustrator. She is known for the illustrious company she kept, which included Goethe, Beethoven, and Pückler.


  • A work of art should express only that which elevates the soul and pleases it in a noble manner. The feeling of the artist should not overstep these limits; it is wrong to venture beyond.
