A Message from Space
Karla Grey
[edit]- Our planet was dying, but we found whatever happiness we could with those we loved, and pretended it wasn't happening. I remember by last evening with my mother and daughter down by the ocean. Mom told us a story. A story about five men in a tiny boat adrift on the sea, but only with enough water and food for three to survive. How should they decide who should live and who dies? I remember her answer, but I still don't know why she told us that story. A few hours later, they were both gone. [Scene of vehicle interior in an accident]
- Why don't you get some rest, Si? Hibernation's hard, especially the first time.
- [Puts hand on ground of the sphere] Well... my guess is... this is not on the Periodic table.
- [To Ulph] Ruptured? Explorer suits don't rupture.
- I don't believe in God.
- I'm not running
- [To Vance] So, people enter the gates on Earth and got to their deaths, but you tell them that it's God? Well? You got me to do that for you?
- [To Vance] So this... is your Final Solution?
- [To Vance] You're... a fucking... monster.
- [To Vance] No one gets to play Deus.
Ulph
[edit]- God judges... I'm fucking scared of god.
Sen Paul
[edit]- [To Karla] You are an explorer, you have been journeyed into the unknown all of your life, but this mystery has got you running scared.
- [To Karla] That's exactly what you are doing. That's the last thing that Vance would expect you to do. People are trusting you, as are billions back on Earth.
- It appears that Officer Grey has broken into my quarters.
Si Rubin
[edit]- [Self mutilating himself in devil worship ritual] It's okay. We need to be cleanse.
- [To Ulph] You're lying!
Miz
[edit]- Hibernation is terminated. All crew please proceed to your quarters.
- All crew are requested at the command deck in 30 minutes. Officer Ulph, proceed to main propulsion for spent core expulsion.
- Karla Grey is recognized. Sphere data is online. Holo projector is initiated.
- Officer Walsh is recognized. Officer Shunzhi is recognized. Flight's trajectory is confirmed.
- Achilles will disengage from the sphere's orbit in 30 minutes.
- Crew will assemble in hibernation in one hour.
- Achilles self-destruct sequence is initiated. Achilles will self-destruct in three minutes.
- Achilles will self-destruct in two minutes.
CEO Vance
[edit]- A self-replicating material called Bio-Mech 34987, capable of building huge structures to a preconceived design very quickly. The patent of the advanced Achilles program which I am very proud.
- I'll tell you a story about a once beautiful planet that sits at the center of the Milky Way. The planet that was once the crown jewel of the known Universe. The planet whose beauty was beyond comprehension and then came human beings and over tens of thousands of years this planet was brought to the very point of extinction. 21 billion people now cram into the 15 percent of the Earth's service that is now still habitable. Scientists tell us that within 30 years, this planet will die. The human race must be culled. The many sacrificed to save the few or we all die.
- Each gate houses a contained Event Horizon. [Karla sighs] They step into oblivion. It's quite painless. Instant non-existence.
- The sphere has no destructive capabilities. It was conceived to appear as a threat. As a judgement.
- Before it reaches the Earth, the sphere will self-destruct. A co-ordinated military strike credited with its destruction. By then, billions will already be dead. The sphere's secret hidden forever. If we do nothing, the planet will die. There will be no one left.
- Listen, after the accident, we placed a chip in your head which would be activated for this mission. Through which we could get you to see or hear whatever we wanted.
- Miz, begin the auto destruct of the ship. Sequence code 21397
- Goodbye Karla Grey, my second greatest creation. [Karla shoots hologram generator evaporating Vance's hologram ]
Dialogue
[edit]- Sean Walsh: [Referring to Si tooling away on a tablet] What is it he does again?
- Tez Shunzhi: He blogs. Has a massive following, like massive.
- Sean Walsh: He blogs, massive following, right, useful.
- Tez Shunzhi: Leave him alone, okay? Okay?
- Sean Walsh: Okay.
- Karla Grey: Have you seen the new data yet?
- Sen Paul: Yeah, it's unremarkable.
- Sean Walsh: [Entering the command deck with Tez to the sight of sphere hologram] Wow.
- Tez Shunzhi: That thing is incredible.
- Sean Walsh: What's that thing like?
- Karla Grey: Complete shit.
- Sean Walsh: I mean, there's nothing new here, how's that?
- Karla Grey: There's nothing new here, Sean.
- Sen Paul: No.
- Karla Grey: What do we do here, commander?
- Sen Paul: What we were sent here TO DO. To investigate the sphere.
- Karla Grey: This is bullshit! The ship's scanners are capable of dissecting entire planets. How can we not see through that thing?
- Sen Paul: WE... DON'T... KNOW...
- Karla Grey: Hey Miz, what's your favorite sexual position?
- Miz: I don't engage in sexual activity.
- Karla Grey: Really? Because you're fucking me really hard.
- Sen Paul: Miz, how long until we reach objective?
- Miz: Eight hours, 51 minutes and 22 seconds.
- Karla Grey: We have no idea what that things is.
- Ulph: I'm about to jettison a spent core from the propulsion.
- Miz: Safety measures are initiated. Core detonation...
- Ulph: [Sings to self] Over the hills...
- Miz: Five...
- Ulph: ...and far away...
- Miz: Four, three, two, one... [spent core is detonated in outer space] core detonation is confirmed. All on-board systems remain stable.
- Sen Paul: Crew, CEO Vance is online.
- Miz: Private executive communication is confirmed.
- CEO Vance: Crew of the Achilles, crew of the Achilles, I trust you've recovered from your long hibernation.
- Sen Paul: All crew members are fully recovered, sir.
- CEO Vance: [Hologram apparates] The whole world is watching, waiting. Every media channel is hungry for information about the sphere.
- Karla Grey: Sir, the scans are telling us nothing.
- CEO Vance: The sphere represents the greatest mystery ever encountered by the human race. If our technology cannot penetrate it, we must find another way. I'm sure Miz here will take the helm for a short time while you return to your quarters and speak to your family members.
- Sen Paul: Thank you, sir. I'm sure we are all truly greatful.
- CEO Vance: Crew dismissed. [Hologram evaporates]
- Miz: Private executive communication-
- Karla Grey: Oh!
- Miz: -is confirmed. [CEO Vance appears on a screen]
- Karla Grey: I thought everyone was having their family calls now.
- CEO Vance: I thought we were family... after having three missions together.
- Karla Grey: Sorry, I didn't mean-
- CEO Vance: Are you okay? You seemed tense on command. Maybe I was asking too much, putting on the flight so soon after losing them.
- Karla Grey: I'm fine. Really. And I never would have gotten through without you. Without your help and without your support.
- CEO Vance: I'm with you every step of the way, Karla Grey. I'm always- [screen fizzles out]
- Miz: Space continuum anomaly detected. Source confirmed, the sphere.
- Ulph: What the fuck?
- Miz: Nature of anomaly, unknow.
- Karla Grey: Commander?
- Miz: Achilles onboard systems are compromised. Communication with Earth is offline. Communication repairs are inititiated. Life support systems remain stable. Propulsion systems remain stable. Onboard data systems running at 34 percent capacity. Data system repairs are initiated. All crew report to command deck immediately.
- Karla Grey: Miz, what was the nature of the disturbance?
- Miz: Unknown.
- Karla Grey: Miz, what is that light source?
- Miz: Unknown.
- Karla Grey: So we're flying blind and Miz is on vacation.
- Sen Paul: We've never encountered anything like this before.
- Karla Grey: No kidding.
- Ulph: Somebody switched the light on.
- Tez Shunzhi: Like it's showing us where it wants to go.
- Sen Paul: Exactly.
- Karla Grey: So what, we just fly towards that thing with no clue of what it is or what just hit us?
- Sen Paul: Yes.
- Sean Walsh: Okay, systems are restoring.
- Miz: On board data systems are fully restored and online.
- Sen Paul: [Walks over to Karla] What is it? [Karla is silent]
- Ulph: What is that?
- Miz: Data source confirmed as the sphere.
- Karla Grey: Miz, are these character structures correct?
- Miz: The character sequences are correct.
- Karla Grey: Why are we set so easy?
- Sen Paul: Perhaps you will share with us what you have found. What?
- Karla Grey: The transmission is a message.
- Sen Paul: Saying what?
- Karla Grey: One word, repeated endlessly.
- Sen Paul: What word?
- Karla Grey: "Deus". God.
- Si Rubin: [Enters command deck] Don't you see? Don't you see what is happening? We have to turn back! [Leaves]
- Tez Shunzhi: Si!
- Karla Grey: He's not wrong. We have to speak to Vance before we go anywhere near that thing.
- Sen Paul: We lost connection with Earth after the first impact.
- Karla Grey: So we stop the ship until we get communication back.
- Sen Paul: Our orders are from Vance. I see no reason to change them.
- Karla Grey: This is our first encounter with an extraterrestrial intelligence in the known universe, let alone, our solar system. That thing came looking for us. How do we know it isn't hostile?
- Sen Paul: How do you know now it's now what it says it is?
- Karla Grey: What?
- Sen Paul: God.
- Karla Grey: [Chuckles] So we're gonna take it's word for it?!
- Sen Paul: No, we follow orders and investigate the sphere.
- Karla Grey: We time to know more, Sen.
- Sen Paul: How? The scanners are blind to it.
- [Si is curled up in hallway with both hands on head sobbing]
- Karla Grey: Si?
- Si Rubin: We can't go there. This is judgement. [Karla squats by him] Now we pay for our sins.
- Karla Grey: We don't know what the sphere is, Si.
- Si Rubin: I do. I do. I hear voices. Calling. Screaming. "Judgement."
- Karla Grey: Easy. Si, we're going to find out what this sphere is, okay? Just, can you tell me, what voices do you hear?
- Si Rubin: We can't go near it. We have to turn back. [Gets up and walks away]
- Ulph: Wow. My mother always said God was going to catch up with me one day. Big Catholic, my mother. Always made me go to church. I don't remember anything about a big black ball in the sky though. I must've missed that song. We have to find out what this is. We're supposed to be fearless explorers.
- Sean Walsh: Why would God come now?
- Ulph: Maybe he's had enough of your bullshit.
- Tez Shunzhi: Or "she" has.
- Ulph: My mother always said "he" though.
- Karla Grey: Did she also say that you always have to have the last word?
- Ulph: If this sphere is God, we have nothing to fear. That depends on what you've been up to. God is our judge. God fucking scares me.
- Karla Grey: This isn't God.
- Sean Walsh: You don't know that.
- Ulph: He has a point. You don't know what this is. But I also have a point, we have to find out what this is. There's alot of people watching us. Yeah? Yeah. And if it isn't God, we can always do something else.
- Karla Grey: Like what?
- Ulph: Blow the fucker up.
- Karla Grey: We're not a military vessel.
- Ulph: There's always a way to blow something up. Always.
- Miz: All crew report to command deck immediately.
- Ulph: Time to go, chaps.
- Sen Paul: [Enters command deck] Officer Ulph.
- Ulph: Sir?
- Sen Paul: That will be the last mention of blowing anything up.
- Tez Shunzhi: Okay, flight trajectory is good.
- Ulph: All good on my screen.
- Sen Paul: Proceed with final caution.
- Ulph: [Karla reacts strongly to hearing voice hallucinations] What is it?
- Karla Grey: It's okay. It's in my head.
- Tez Shunzhi: We need to find Si. He's gone deep into the heel.
- Ulph: Fucking guy's a liability. What's he doing down there?
- Tez Shunzhi: I don't know.
- Karla Grey: I think he's really scared.
- Ulph: [Riding vertical mover] Fuck, this thing is slow. You said something before Tez interrupted us.
- Karla Grey: Did I? I don't remember.
- Ulph: [Arrives to stop] Let's split up, we'll cover more ground. I'll take three, you take four.
- Karla Grey: Sure.
- Karla Grey: [Tez screams when Si grabs her] Did you hear that?
- Ulph: Yeah. Sounded like Tez.
- Karla Grey: [Si grabs her] Stop!
- Si: [To Ulph holding Karla with a knife to her throat] Stay the fuck from me! Take one fucking step and I'm gonna cut her throat!
- Ulph: Easy, son. No one's gonna hurt you! We just need to talk.
- Si Rubin: We are beyond redemption. Nothing can save us from his wrath. If we land on that sphere, we're lambs to the slaughter. We have to turn the ship around.
- Karla Grey: (5x) Si. Let's go and talk to the commander, we can turn this ship around. Right, Sen?
- Si Rubin: Don't fucking patronize me! We have to take charge of the ship! We have to kill that fucker, he knows something.
- Ulph: Okay, so, let's ask him what he knows, together.
- Si Rubin: You're lying.
- Ulph: Easy, Si.
- Sen Paul: [Shoots Si in the head] It's okay. It's over, you're safe now. Officer Ulph, you're gonna need a body bag to get Rubin to the holds now.
- Ulph: Where's Tez.
- Karla Grey: I think she's in the hold. I think she's dead.
- Sen Paul: That's two body bags we're gonna need.
- Ulph: This shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
- Sen Paul: Officer Grey, follow me.
- Karla Grey: [Riding vertical mover] The sphere, Sen, you know something.
- Sen Paul: If we knew what the sphere was, Vance would've told you himself. He wouldn't keep it away from you, of all people. We can't explain how it appeared or its origin. Only what it says it is.
- Karla Grey: God.
- Sen Paul: Yes.
- Karla Grey: I don't believe in God.
- Sen Paul: [Walks behind her] You are an explorer, you have been journeyed into the unknown all of your life, but this mystery has got you running scared.
- Karla Grey: I'm not running
- Sen Paul: That's exactly what you are doing. That's the last thing that Vance would expect you to do. People are trusting you, as are billions back on Earth.
- Sen Paul: This is your time. Embrace it.
- Karla Grey: I'm sorry, before you launch into any another one your speeches [into CCTV cam] I'm sure millions of people will enjoy watching, [to Sen] could we just take a second in what has happened on this mission?
- Sen Paul: The whole world is watching, Karla Grey.
- Karla Grey: [Into CCTV cam] I don't give a fuck! [To Sen] So we're just gonna ignore with what happened with Tez. Si, who should have never have been on board this ship to begin with
- Sen Paul: Tell Vance that you are too afraid. I'm sure he'll tell the rest of us, once Miz reestablishes contact with Earth.
- Karla Grey: Great!
- Sen Paul: Hmm. [Punches keypad and opens door] You coming?
- Karla Grey: I'm gonna give myself permission to go clean up a bit and then go and say goodbye to Tez.
- Sen Paul: You can't help her now.
- Karla Grey: Holy fuck.
- Sen Paul: Don't take too long.
- Ulph: [Observing Tez in her hibernation pod] Time for us all to meet our maker.
- Karla Grey: Time for answers. We owe her that, don't we?
- Ulph: Yeah.
- Karla Grey: Yeah. [Walks away]
- Miz: Flying time to sphere, 3 hours, 17 minutes and 13 seconds.
- Sean Walsh: Ready to disengage Achilles.
- Sen Paul: Proceed.
- Karla Grey: Wait, there's something down there. A structure.
- Ulph: What is it?
- Miz: Communication with Earth is restored. CEO Vance is online.
- Sen Paul: [CEO Vance's hologram apparates] Sir.
- CEO Vance: Here we arrive at an extraordinary moment in our history. A moment like no other. Officers Grey and Ulph, you carry with you the blessings and good wishes of all the peoples of the Earth, as do the entire crew of the brave Achilles.
- Karla Grey: Sir, we have new data.
- CEO Vance: I'm aware. You should know that some of the structures have now appeared all over Earth.
- Karla Grey: What? How many on Earth? In excess of ten thousand.
- Ulph: Oh, it's an invasion.
- Karla Grey: What are my peers saying, sir? Members of the scientific community on Earth, what are they saying about those structures? We're just four people up here, going in blind. What the fuck are they saying?
- CEO Vance: Nothing. The origin and purpose of these structures remain a mystery.
- Ulph: They still have to be considered a threat.
- CEO Vance: We have concluded that the sphere is at the center of this mystery. It must be investigated. And you must lead this investigation. [CEO Vance's hologram evaporates]
- Ulph: We have to find out what the fuck this is.
- Sen Paul: Agreed. Officer Ulph and Grey, I need you to proceed to the airlock
- Karla Grey: We have to go out there.
- Sean Walsh: I'm going with you.
- Sen Paul: No, you're not.
- Sean Walsh: Yeah, I am. I'm the only other scientist on board.
- Karla Grey: He's right. And I want him out there. We need as many eyes on this thing as we can get. [Walks away with Sean following]
- Sean Walsh: [Putting on space suits] We ready?
- Ulph: Getting there. [To Karla] You're all good, all set? [Karla gives thumbs up]
- Miz: Crew are cleared to proceed. The inner airlock door is secured. Decompression is initiated. Outer airlock doors are open. Crew are clear to proceed.
- Sean Walsh: Are you getting anything?
- Karla Grey: Not a thing. [Puts hand on ground] Well... my guess is... this is not on the Periodic table.
- Sen Paul: What about the structure?
- Karla Grey: Looks like a gate to me. [Light shines through gate] Oh, come on.
- Ulph: What now?
- Karla Grey: "What, now" indeed.
- Ulph: I hope Si was wrong, 'cause we're at the mercy out here.
- Karla Grey: Huh? Let's move on.
- Ulph: [Fire a flare gun] Look, up at the top.
- Sean Walsh: We know that symbol.
- Ulph: What is that?
- Sean Walsh: The event horizon.
- Ulph: What does that mean?
- Karla Grey: The edge of existence. These gates appear to made of the same material as the rest of the sphere.
- Sean Walsh: If that is a gate, where does it lead? [Hearing metallic wooshing] What the?
- Karla Grey: And how are we hearing that in a vacuum?
- Sen Paul: Miz is receiving this transmission and relaying it to you. But it's a different word to the last.
- Karla Grey: What word?
- Miz: [Translating words of a female figure in the light whose lips are unmoving] "Welcome".
- Sen Paul: Miz is translating.
- Sean Walsh: This is incredible.
- Karla Grey: Miz, translation?
- Miz: "You have come".
- Ulph: Speak to it. Say something.
- Miz: "I speak for the creator".
- Karla Grey: Who is the creator?
- Miz: "The beginning and end. The alpha and omega of all existence".
- Karla Grey: And why has the creator come?
- Miz: "As a warning and to help".
- Karla Grey: "Help", how?
- Miz: "Humankind faces a choice".
- Karla Grey: What; "choice"?
- Miz: "Those who enter the gates like this one will return to the Creator in eternal peace. You must show the way".
- Karla Grey: Who must show; "the way"?
- Miz: "You are the one sent. It is you who will see the truth beyond the gate, and you will return to share the truth with all humankind".
- Sen Paul: Karla, you have clearance to proceed.
- Karla Grey: What is beyond the gate?
- Miz: "The end of all suffering. The end of all pain.
- Karla Grey: You said; "humankind faced a choice". What is the alternative?
- Miz: "Those who do not choose to enter the gate will perish".
- Karla Grey: "Perish", how?
- Miz: "The sphere also carries the Event Horizon. As the sphere reaches the Earth, it will bring the most destructive force in the entire universe. In an instant, Earth and all those left on it will cease to exist".
- Karla Grey: A black hole.
- Miz: "Only those who pass through the gates will be saved. Only "they" will find salvation. Only "they" will find the ones they have lost". [Figure morphs into her mother]
- Karla Grey: Mom?
- Miz: "Another waits for you beyond the gate". [Karla walks through gate and meets her daughter running towards Karla from a golden city]
- Miz: [Karla wakes up on medical examination table in Achilles] Current heartrate tachycardia, 152 beats per minute. Blood pressure, 143 over 94. [Karla leans over vomiting] Respiratory rate, 28.
- Ulph: Easy, easy.
- Miz: No physical trauma is detected.
- Ulph: Karla? You're okay.
- Karla Grey: What? How'd I get back here?
- Ulph: You came out of the gate. You could barely stand. I helped you back to the ship.
- Karla Grey: And what about Sean?
- Ulph: He didn't make it.
- Karla Grey: Hm-hmm. No, what, (6x) no. Oh, my God. What is going on?
- Sen Paul: We're all asking the same question.
- Karla Grey: Where is Vance?
- CEO Vance: [On screen] I'm here.
- Karla Grey: I need to speak to you.
- CEO Vance: We need to know what was beyond the gate. The whole world is waiting on your answer.
- Karla Grey: [Sighs] I saw a golden landscape. A beautiful... golden landscape. And off in the distance, there was a city with domes and towers glinting in the sunlight. Like a bloody Jerusalem. Like...
- Ulph: Heaven.
- CEO Vance: What happened next?
- Karla Grey: I ran toward the city. And then... um... then I was back here.
- CEO Vance: I heard you whisper your mother's name before you entered the gate.
- Karla Grey: Ugh. Um... I... I don't remember.
- Sen Paul: Easy.
- Karla Grey: No. There was no one else.
- CEO Vance: Try to remember.
- Karla Grey: There was nothing else. Okay?
- CEO Vance: You need to rest. [Signs off]
- Ulph: [Referring to Sean] His suit ruptured. There was nothing else we could do.
- Karla Grey: Ruptured? Explorer suits don't rupture.
- Ulph: His glove wasn't secured properly. He decompressed. There was nothing we could do. It was quick.
- Karla Grey: I wanted him out there. Sean was an experienced explorer. He knew how to fit a suit.
- Ulph: He made a mistake. He was in too much a rush to get out there. Vance is right. You need to rest.
- Karla Grey: I have to get back down to the sphere. We need more answers.
- Ulph: Well... you can't. We're already prepping to leave orbit, so...
- Karla Grey: Why would we leave without answers?
- Ulph: You do need to rest. You'd be more comfortable in your own quarters. Come. [Scene reveals Sen watching]
- Karla Grey: I'm good from here, thanks.
- Ulph: No cameras here. Why do they think that you held something back?
- Karla Grey: I don't know what to trust anymore. I saw something.
- Ulph: What?
- Karla Grey: You know I lost them... my family. I was in a coma for weeks, head injuries, four surgeries later. I walked out of the hospital but they didn't make it. I saw them, at the gate. He knows what I saw. I could see it in his eyes and I could hear it in his questions and he wanted me to say it for the camera. He knows something about what this is. So why isn't he telling us? [Walks away]
- Sen Paul: [Ulph enters command deck] How is she?
- Ulph: Exhausted.
- Sen Paul: Did she say anything else?
- Ulph: No.
- Sen Paul: You went out of view.
- Ulph: She didn't say anything.
- Sen Paul: Prepare to leave orbit.
- Ulph: Confirmed.
- Sen Paul: We need her to tell us about everything she saw. She's holding back.
- Ulph: You heard what I heard.
- Sen Paul: You're getting way too close to this woman. Remember your orders, why you are on this ship.
- Ulph: I'm crystal clear.
- Sen Paul: Remain so.
- Ulph: [Hears Karla cock gun behind him] What the fuck are you doing?
- Karla Grey: What I told you I was going to do. Question. And I got some great answers about you. Eight years Special Air Corps. Four years with the Elite Corps, decorated more times than you can probably even remember. You weren't just good, you were one of the best.
- Ulph: It was a different life.
- Karla Grey: What are you doing on this ship?
- Ulph: I was told to keep the peace.
- Karla Grey: What do you know about the sphere?
- Ulph: Nothing. You know more than I do. You went through the gate.
- Karla Grey: I don't believe you.
- Ulph: There's nothing I can do about that.
- Karla Grey: Okay, move.
- Ulph: Where are we going?
- Karla Grey: Move. [Ulph walks at gunpoint with Karla following]
- Sen Paul: This is mutiny. That's a death sentence back on Earth.
- Karla Grey: Well, apparently, the sphere is the death sentence for an entire planet, so, it's time for the truth.
- Sen Paul: Well, you already have it. You saw what was beyond the gate.
- Karla Grey: Okay, I'll start, shall I? Sean... was murdered. Oh yeah, I saw the suit, there's nothing wrong with it. He was shot. [Turns to Ulph] You killed him. You're a hitman. Hired to clean up any problems. But why? I want the truth. [Turns to CCTV cam] They all want the truth. I'm pretty sure you'll cut out this part thought.
- Sen Paul: Tell them what you saw beyond the gate.
- Karla Grey: You know what I saw and so does Vance. How? [Gasps as CEO Vance's hologram apparates]
- CEO Vance: We believe that what you saw was real. That you glimpsed heaven.
- Karla Grey: That was not heaven.
- CEO Vance: Then what was it? Even a scientist must believe her own eyes. We're not your enemies.
- Karla Grey: Your enforcer will kill me the first chance he gets.
- CEO Vance: Why would I seek to harm you, of all people?
- Karla Grey: [Sen attempts to step forward] You stay away from me!
- CEO Vance: This cannot be stopped. Besides, people have already started to make their own choice.
- TV announcer: ...have appeared all over the world. It is estimated-
- CEO Vance: The Earth has become a living hell. People want to escape. Escape to paradise.
- Karla Grey: Holy shit. This has to be stopped. [Sen lunges forward and grabs Karla's discharging it into her torso]
- Sen Paul: [Lying on floor, chuckling] You won't. [Karla shoot him and realizes she herself has been shot, to Vance] What are you doing?
- CEO Vance: I'm not doing anything, Karla. Not even I can stop what is happening. [Hologram evaporates]
- Ulph: You need help. Then I'll take this ship anywhere you wanna go.
- Karla Grey: Sure. Why would you do that? You killed Sean.
- Ulph: Yeah.
- Karla Grey: Yeah. And now... now you gonna kill me.
- Ulph: No. You're not the only one who wants the truth. When I stepped on this ship, I had no idea where all this was going. I don't know what the sphere is. [Karla groans and re-aims gun at Ulph] Okay.
- Ulph: You were lucky. Just a flesh wound.
- Karla Grey: Yeah. Lucky. I wanna go back to the sphere. But Vance has control of Miz.
- Ulph: I have the code to override her. We would have to lose the heel. She's too big to control manually.
- Karla Grey: So, we'd lose main propulsion, and... our main way back to Earth.
- Ulph: Achilles propulsion should make it, but it would take a long time.
- Karla Grey: How long?
- Ulph: Five, six years. More, I'm guessing.
- Karla Grey: We're not going to get to go home, are we?
- Ulph: It's not looking good. There is something else we could do.
- CEO Vance: [Karla is speaking to his hologram] Karla, you intend to return to the sphere.
- Karla Grey: I do. Or destroy it if you try to stop me.
- CEO Vance: Why?
- Karla Grey: Because this whole thing is a lie. What are you doing?
- CEO Vance: I gave the world a scientist who would discover God.
- Karla Grey: Cut the bullshit, what is this?
- CEO Vance: You did not discover God. But you could now become God.
- Karla Grey: What does that mean?
- CEO Vance: Go to your screen.
- Karla Grey: Okie-dokie. [Turns around]
- Miz: Achilles file classified. Sphere schematics accessed.
- CEO Vance: A self-replicating material called Bio-Mech 34987, capable of building huge structures to a preconceived design very quickly. The patent of the advanced Achilles program which I am very proud.
- Karla Grey: You built this? Why?
- CEO Vance: I'll tell you a story about a once beautiful planet that sits at the center of the Milky Way.
- Karla Grey: So, people enter the gates on Earth and got to their deaths, but you tell them that it's God? Well? You got me to do that for you?
- CEO Vance: To save the few.
- Karla Grey: How many do you plan to kill?
- CEO Vance: In excess of 15 billion, saving six billion.
- Karla Grey: So this... is your Final Solution? How do they die?
- CEO Vance: Each gate houses a contained Event Horizon. [Karla sighs] They step into oblivion. It's quite painless. Instant non-existence.
- Karla Grey: Another Vance Achilles patent, no doubt. The figure at the gate said that the sphere would destroy the Earth.
- CEO Vance: The sphere has no destructive capabilities. It was conceived to appear as a threat. As a judgement.
- Karla Grey: Well then, people would discover the lie.
- CEO Vance: Before it reaches the Earth, the sphere will self-destruct. A co-ordinated military strike credited with its destruction. By then, billions will already be dead. The sphere's secret hidden forever. If we do nothing, the planet will die. There will be no one left.
- Karla Grey: How did I see beyond the gate? My mother, and then Jess.
- CEO Vance: Listen, after the accident, we placed a chip in your head which would be activated for this mission. Through which we could get you to see or hear whatever we wanted.
- Karla Grey: And you woke me before I could reach her. You've been preparing me for this trip for two years. You arranged the accident... so you could put this thing in my head. You murdered my family... to save the few?
- CEO Vance: Yes.
- Karla Grey: [Leaning at window] Everything.. you are... for me... is a lie. I miss my mum. And I wish she was here. She would tell you a story.
- CEO Vance: What story?
- Karla Grey: It's a goodie. Five men adrift on the ocean, with only with enough food and water for three to survive, so two have to die.
- CEO Vance: Exactly. Your mother understood.
- Karla Grey: Yeah, well, she was a very smart lady. But that's not how her story ends. You see, she understood something... that you don't. They could find fish or an island to sustain them or even a ship could come. No one knows what the ocean will bring. All of us deserve to find our own future. You're... a fucking... monster.
- Ulph: I armed the core.
- CEO Vance: Then you leave me no choice.
- Karla Grey: Ulph? You need to get back to Achilles and bring the core with you now!
- Ulph: Why? What's happening up there?
- Karla Grey: Just get back here!
- Ulph: But I can't detonate the core remotely from the Achilles.
- Karla Grey: I understand that.
- CEO Vance: Miz, begin the auto destruct of the ship. Sequence code 21397
- Miz: Achilles self-destruct sequence is initiated. Achilles will self-destruct in three minutes.
- Ulph: Holy shit, fuck this.
- CEO Vance: Ulph will not make it back in time, besides, Miz will prevent you from disengaging the Achilles from the heel. I will ask you this one more time. Will you help me in this great cause?
- Karla Grey: No one gets to play Deus.
- CEO Vance: Goodbye Karla Grey, my second greatest creation. [Karla shoots hologram generator evaporating Vance's hologram ]
- Miz: Achilles will self-destruct in two minutes.
- Karla Grey: Ulph, where are you?
- Ulph: I'm near transit!
- Karla Grey: You have under two minutes!
- Ulph: Yeah, I heard that, thanks. Hey, listen to me. Go to my station and bring up the ship's docking schematic. Can you find that?
- Karla Grey: I'm on it!
- Ulph: Bring up the manual override and it will ask you for a code. [In vertical mover] Move, you fucker.
- Karla Grey: I'm in but I don't have a code.
- Ulph: I do.
- Miz: Achilles will self-destruct.
- Ulph: Ready?
- Karla Grey: Yes.
- Ulph: Code is zero, zero, seven, six, five, seven, eight, six, five, eighty-nine, seventy-three
- Miz: Manual control of the Achilles is confirmed.
- Karla Grey: Okay, we're in.
- Ulph: Okay, we can separate the ship now.
- Karla Grey: You need to get back here!
- Ulph: No shit!
- Miz: Achilles will self-destruct in 30 seconds.
- Ulph: I'm not gonna make it back. You have to go.
- Karla Grey: I'm waiting for you.
- Ulph: You can't.
- Miz: Achilles will self-destruct in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, zero. [Achilles implodes]
- Miz: Achilles self-destruct sequence is initiated.
- Karla Grey: Ulph!
- Miz: Life support systems are re-calibrated for two crew members.
- Ulph: [Outside door] I have a special delivery for Miss Karla Grey. Could someone come down and sign it for me, please?
- Karla Grey: [Opens door] Where do I sign?
- Ulph: We have no way of remotely detonating the core now. It has to be done manually from the surface.
- Karla Grey: Then we'll do it together.
- Ulph: I had no idea... what Vance was planning. He only put me on board to take care of any problems. I eve nfucked that up. But he didn't bargain for you, did he? None of us did.
- Ulph: Hold on a minute, will you?
- Karla Grey: Okay. [Ulph steps into decompression room and closes door] What are you doing?! No. No.
- Ulph: You have to get back. you have to tell the story of what happened here. Tell them the truth of the sphere. That's more important.
- Karla Grey: Please. Please, don't do this. I'll never make it back.
- Ulph: You'll make it back. You know, I have a funny feeling this is just the beginning of your story, Karla Grey.
- Karla Grey: No.
- Ulph: Just get home. [Steps outside]
- Karla Grey: You fucking bastard.
- Ulph: One fine day, I'm gonna have a proper drink with you, Karla Grey.
- Karla Grey: And I'm gonna hold you to that. [Ulph detonates the core] See you on the other side, mate.
- Miz: Estimated return to Earth is calculated: seven years, eight months, 17 weeks, five days, and 16 hours.
- Karla Grey: Miz... go fuck yourself.
- Miz: I don't engage in sexual activity.
- [Post credits scene]
- Karla Grey: [Looking really bored] Miz... are we there yet?
- Miz: Go fuck yourself, Karla Grey!
