I believe in the time when we shall be able to create works of art in the Theatre without the use of the written play, without the use of actors.

Edward Gordon Craig (16 January 187229 July 1966), sometimes known as Gordon Craig, was a English modernist theatre practitioner; he worked as an actor, producer, director and scenic designer, as well as developing an influential body of theoretical writings. He was the son of Ellen Terry, and had many children by many women, including Isadora Duncan, with whom he had a daughter, Deirdre (1906–13), who drowned at the age of seven.
