Fang Lizhi

If every one of those good words — liberty, equality, fraternity, democracy, human rights — has been called "bourgeois", what on earth does that leave for us?

Fang Lizhi (12 February 1936 – 6 April 2012) was a Chinese astrophysicist whose liberal ideas inspired the pro-democracy student movement of 1986–87 and the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. He eventually had to move to the USA.
