Dialogue
[edit]- Oda Mae: Where exactly are you?
- Sam: I'm standing right beside you.
- Oda Mae: Oh, you're standing right beside me?
- Oda Mae's Sister: Honey, we're right here.
- Oda Mae: Are you white?
- Sam: WHAT?
- Oda Mae's Sister: White?
- Oda Mae: You're white, aren't you?
- Oda Mae's Sister: You know what I think?
- Oda Mae's Other Sister: Yes, I'm gonna call the doctor right now.
- Oda Mae: I knew it. It's a white guy. Why me?
- Sam: Listen, damn it. You are going to help me. There's a woman. Her name is Molly Jensen and she's in terrible danger. The man who killed me broke into our apartment and he's gonna go back. So you've gotta warn her.
- Oda Mae: Just what makes you think she's gonna listen to me?
- Sam: It's just a phone call. Look, you're all I've got. Now, I'm not leaving until you help me. I don't care how long it takes, 'cause I could talk forever.
- Sam: Molly, you're in danger.
- Oda Mae: You can't just blurt it out like that! And quit moving around, because you're starting to make me dizzy. I'll just tell her in my own way. [pause] Molly, you in danger, girl.
- Oda Mae: I don't know you. I don't know Sam, but let me tell you what he did to me. He kept me up all night singing I'm Henery the Eighth, I Am.
- Molly: That's how he got me to go out with him.
- Oda Mae: He's stuck, that's what it is. He's in between worlds. You know it happens sometimes that the spirit gets yanked out so fast that the essence still feels it has work to do here.
- Sam: Would you stop rambling?
- Oda Mae: I don't think I'm rambling, I'm just answering the question. He's got a attitude now.
- Sam: I don't have an attitude.
- Oda Mae: Yes, you do have an attitude. If you didn't have an attitude, you would not have raised your voice at me now, would you?
- Sam: God dammit...
- Oda Mae: Don't you "God dammit" me. Don't you take the Lord's name in vain with me. I don't take that!
- Sam: Would you relax?
- Oda Mae: No, you relax, you're the dead guy!
- Sam: How long have you been here?
- Subway ghost: Since they pushed me.
- Sam: Someone pushed you?
- Subway ghost: Yeah, someone pushed me.
- Sam: Who?
- Subway ghost: What? You don't believe me? You think I fell? You think I jumped? Well, fuck you! It wasn't my time! I wasn't supposed to go! I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!
- [he kicks the glass window of a vending machine, and boxes of cigarettes fall out; the ghost groans in desperation]
- Subway ghost: Oh, I'd give anything for a drag. Just one drag!
- [Sam is crouched on the subway station-floor, attempting to push a bottlecap with his finger. The Subway Ghost is laughing at him]
- Subway Ghost: ...What the hell are you doing? You're trying to push that with your finger. You can't push it with your finger! You're dead! It's all in your mind. The problem with you is that you still think you're real. You think you're wearing those clothes? You think you're crouched on that floor? Bullshit! You ain't got a body no more, son! [Taps his forehead] It's all up here now! You want to move something, you got to move it with your mind! You got to focus, you hear what I'm sayin'?
- Sam: How? How do you focus?
- Subway Ghost: I don't know how you focus! You just focus!
- [the Subway Ghost kneels and flicks away the bottlecap as if it were a marble]
- Sam: How did you do that?
- Subway Ghost: You take all your emotions! All your pain, all your love, all your passion, all your rage! Just push it all the way down into the pit of your stomach! And then let it explode, like a reactor! Pow!
- [the Subway Ghost kicks a soda can across the floor]
- Oda Mae: Give this 4 million dollars to a bunch of nuns? How big a jackass do you take me for?
- Sam: Think of it this way: you'll go to Heaven.
- Oda Mae: I don't wanna go to Heaven, I wanna go to the bank and cash this STUPID CHECK!
- [Oda Mae just gave four million dollars in drug money to some nuns]
- Sam: I'm proud of you, Oda Mae.
- Oda Mae: You know something, Sam? I don't care if you're proud of me. You just stay away from me from now on. What is that nun going to do with it? She can't even buy underwear. NOTHING! I HATE YOU! Leave me alone! Never talk to me again!
- Sam: I think you're wonderful, Oda Mae!
- [She stops and gives a raspberry to Sam. Meanwhile, one of the nuns looks at the check and faints]
- Sam: I love you, Molly. I've always loved you.
- Molly: Ditto.
