In the New Testament, Hell is referred to as Gehenna (Γέεννα), Hades (ᾍδης), Tartarus (Ταρταρῶ), the outer darkness (σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον) and the lake of fire (λίμνη τοῦ πυρός). These concepts do not occur in the Old Testament (i.e., the Hebrew Bible), but Christian translations of the Old Testament sometimes translate the Hebrew concept of Sheol (שְׁאוֹל) as "Hell", and the Septuagint translates Sheol as "Hades".
