I Love to Singa

I Love to Singa is an 1936, 1944, 1981, 1996, 2003 Merrie Melodies animated cartoon directed by Tex Avery, produced by Leon Schlesinger, and released to theaters on July 18, 1936, by Warner Bros. and Vitaphone. As with many early Warners cartoons, it is in a sense a music video designed to push a song from the Warners library. But it was also referenced in the first episode of South Park when one of the boys claimed that Eric Cartman had been abducted by aliens.

Owl Jolson: [with chagrin and dismay, singing "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes" to the pump organ accompaniment of his mother] ♪ Drink to me only with thine eyes ♪

Professer Fritz Owl: [in a German accent, after catching him singing jazz instead of "Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes" to the pump organ accompaniment of his mother] Ach! Enough is too much! [angrily throwing Owl Jolson out of the house] Out of my house, you hotcha, you crooner, [as his head angrily turns red] you falsetto, you JAZZ SINGER! You... You... YOOOOOOU!! [slams the door. Pauses; opens the door] Phooey! [shuts the door again]

Donald Duck: [he turns red with anger] SHUT UP!!! I CAN'T STAND YOU!!! YOU HELLBIRD, YOU CONTROL FREAK, YOU DISCIPLINARIAN, YOU CATCHPHRASE STEALER!!! [tears the door right off, barges in, and proceeds to beat the living snot out of Fritz]

Owl Jolson: That's my... Pop. ♪ I love to singa ♪

Mother Owl: [in a German accent, sadly, to Professer Fritz Owl] Papa, I think you were a bit too hasty.

Donald Duck: [angrily to Professor Fritz Owl] YEAH, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF! Not only for kicking out Owl Jolson, but for also STEALING MY CATCHPHRASE!!! Phooey on you!
