Quotes
[edit]- O grave, where is thy victory? Where, indeed. Many a badly stung survivor, faced with the aftermath of some relative’s funeral, has ruefully concluded that the victory has been won hands down by a funeral establishment.
- The American Way of Death (1963), ch. 1
- Cf. 1 Corinthians 15:55
- According to one of my correspondents, Jessica Mitford was overheard to remark, "I have nothing against undertakers personally. It's just that I wouldn't want one to bury my sister."
- Quoted in the Saturday Review (1 February 1964). Reported in J. M. and M. J. Cohen (eds.) The Penguin Dictionary of Modern Quotations (1971), p. 159
